  • Rental store stickers! But the nice ones.
    Thankfully paper stickers were commonly used on most game boxes from the 5th generation and earlier. It wasn't until after the CD and DVD cases came out that we also saw a shift towards plastic-based stickers.
    So dear viewers, you are in luck! Today we bring you two methods of removing paper stickers. As well as how to identify a paper sticker, the different flaps of an N64 box, and a handful of other slightly interesting things!
    Tools we used:
    Heptane
    Heat gun
    Qtips
    Plastic pry tool (used to open the box)
    Gloves! (since we're using chemicals)
    -Eldoug
    Tools I use! And affiliated links to buy them on Amazon!
    (Let me know if you are outside of the US, I have suggested tools for most international countries too!)

    That is really good advice about treating everything the same way.

    I remember having Bio Freaks as a kid and thought it was fun. I bought it again to restart my collection and I was like “wow, I was easily entertained as a kid.” 😂

      We had low expectations back then! Give me that game, some 3D Doritos, and a Mt Dew Code red and it was a wild night!

    43minutes well spent! Thank you for this video, I have some NES boxes that need some cleaning. Can we get a follow up video on removing that sticker from the manual?

    Thanks a lot for this video. It gave me the instructions and confidence to point a heat ray at my collectibles!

    I just took about 3 feet of Scotch packaging tape off my Super Mario Maker Wii U console bundle I scored off eBay for $130. I used my Wagner heat gun and slow pulling to get the tape off. I used Goo Gone and a microfiber cloth to get the residue off. I finished it all off with some Guardian wood duster/cleaner spray and a microfiber cloth. Besides one tiny spot on the top of the box it came out perfectly. Thanks for the video!

    By far the most informative video on RUclips. I was looking for a video on removing a paper sticker from an N64 box. But my game copy says "BLO FREAKS" so I hope it works.

    I found it helpful to (carefully) after heating the residue, using scotch tape to pull up the residue. Or if it's particularly gooey, another piece of paper or towel to absorb the goo.

      This method can work! We used to use scotch tape to remove any residue from stickers at GameStop, or heck even the label itself! But everyone just be careful that the tape doesn't remove any of the box art or printing! No matter the process, with these older cardboard boxes it's important to just go as slow as possible and focus on removing the gunk first!

    The Bestine product you have linked to Amazon in your description states it’s for removing ink and adhesive. I just gotta double check this is the exact product you used to remove this paper sticker from the game box in the video. I’m looking to remove a paper bill of laden stock sticker on an N64 console box. Hope all is well!

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Год назад +1

      That's the one! Comercially it's sold as either Bestine or "Doc Edington's Rubber Cement Thinner & Adhesive Remover".
      So it's kind of counterintuitive to use something that says it removes ink, but since it dries faster than most other solvents, it can remove adhesive before saturing the ink enough to remove it. Just use a little bit at a time, just enough to remove the adhesive, and you'll be fine. Scrubbing with bestine/heptane can cause the ink to smear.

      Don't use IPA for this! You'll remove the inks on the box!

    I’d love for you to show us how to remove the sticker from the manual, shown at 2:07. I find manuals to be far more tricky than boxes, and for some reason N64 manuals are especially tough for sticker removal.

      AHA!
      I knew I made a video somewhere where I showed off a sticker on a manual. I can absolutely make a video showing how to remove that! (Now that I know what manual it was!!)

    Can my ps5 box be damaged if I use a hairdryer for the sticker?

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  11 месяцев назад +1

      It can, but just make sure to let the cardboard cool off as often as you can. Work slow and your box will be just fine!!

    Do you allow people to send in their repair needs to be fixed? I sent a message in the comments regarding the paper sticker bill of laden on my N64 console box. I would like to see if that’s something you could remove, and we can chat off line about it through email or another form of messenger.

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Год назад +2

      It really depends on what it is! So if it's something that needs to be preserved for historical or archival purposes I'm usually down to do that. Otherwise it depends on the items and the requirement (I do have a side hustle of repairing and restoring, but the turnaround time is kinda long, hence why I made instructional videos to help people out when I couldn't!)
      But shoot me a message and let's talk! It might be something that would make a good video too!

      @@RestoreAndReplay how do I shoot you a message? I do not see a way to DM you through RUclips and on your descriptions, do not see any other form of a way to contact you directly.
