    I like your paint job very nice. Tactical Hive Guy's "Coch" did a barrel length velocity test , it's amazing how 1" can increase the terminal velocity too fragmentation . As a GPR you have to include out to 300 in that figure, too get that you'll have to start with 3000 fps min. base line. I don't know what length under 16" can do that, maybe a 13.7 or 14.5 can, I don't know. I do know that from 10.5" to 12.5" doesn't have terminal velocity at that distance, that's not too say they can't reach ,but not with terminal velocity, so they aren't considered GPR's . All of the shorter rifles were developed for CQC or CQB in Afghanistan for closer range (in building's, huts etc.) work, for that they are perfect out to 100yrds . That's why the 300 blk-out was developed as a quieter more leathle round under 100 . It's not relying on fragmentation, the 7.62 with less velocity creates a bigger permanent wound cavitation = BIG HOLE ! So the 300blk made all the MK-18 (10.5") MK-111(11.5") types less desirable, because the 300 very short suppressed is so much quieter for CQB. Also remember fragmentation has two purpose's more damage and less over penetration, you need 2600 fps min. to frag, which gets you back to the 16" barrel for 3050 +/- velocity with M193 55gr. That's why they switched to M855 62gr.more effective out to 300yrds.with SBR's . Just say'n, I like that paint job 👍 😎 THANK YOU for sharing.

    16 inch is imo the perfect barrel for a general purpose rifle build. I’ve seen videos of marines clearing buildings with a 20 inch A2 with that long ass fixed stock no problem. A 16 inch barrel and an adjustable stock will give you alot less length to maneuver in CQB situations. And the 16 inch will also give you the length and velocity to hit targets 500 yards out no problem. So with the 16 inch barrel you can do pretty much everything fairly easily but at the end of the day it comes down to training. Give a newbie a 12.5 barrel CQB build and have someone who’s been training a-lot with a 20 inch A2 clone and then dude with the A2 will crush the newbie with a 12.5 because he put the time in to train.

    hi i was recommended this video to me by youtube
    your narration is pretty cool, i watched your video from beginning to end.
    my GPR is super chunky (almost 10.5lbs loaded with all attachments) so now I'm looking for diet accessories for it. 16" barrel with LPVO and light. i really don't fancy having a 5.56mm carbine heavier than grampaw's M1 Garand.
    also some kind of jackrabbit or another one of god's creatures was hanging around at 10:55 lol

    • @Mtn_Marty

      So @arisakadefense lights are lightweight. What kind of lpvo are you running? Maybe sell it and scoop up a lighter one like the new 1x8 from @primaryarms. It’s compact and light.

    Currently don't have 12.5 but I really want one. I agree a 12.5 is a great choice for a general purpose rifle. There is a study out there with sensors per every inch of barrel and it showed some solid data. Velocity readings from 12.5-14.5 were pretty much the same and only really increased when nearing 16". Oh and 10.3 makes little sense when you see that you get a massive FPS jump by just adding a single inch and again even more so when adding another inch (12.5). Funny enough I own a 10.5 gun.
    My other favorite option is actually a 16" barrel. yeah it's getting a little longer but it's still able to do CQB relatively well and has a very good velocity increase and with modern day propellant mixtures is around 150 fps off a 20" barrel in many 55grain loadings.

    • @Mtn_Marty
      @Mtn_Marty  Год назад

      I like the 13.9 because with a can it isn't too long. The 12.5 is a PIA to suppress and you really need to tune your gun to get it running right.

    It's a mid length gas BA 4150 V that is cold hammer forged and coated. I run a decent coated BCG, and trying to get an A5 buffer system on the way for an upgrade. Oh, my upper, lower, and 15 inch handguard are all Cerecoated in FDE, for cool points.
    I run an FDE ROMEO 5 XDR red dot, and a matching Juliet 4 magnifier. Both are at 1.63 mount. Oh, and MBUS of course.
    My sling is an FDE Vickers, by Blue Force Gear, and is attached by QD.
    Simple I guess. It all works well, and never hiccups. It has eaten anything I feed it, but I settled for ONLY using PMC X-TAC M193.

      @frankhujsa821 Год назад +1

      Hi Jose, I have experience with AKs in 7.62 and with shorter barrels. A couple of points.
      First, loss of bullet velocity due to barrel shortening is less with a 30cal bore than a 5.56 because of the additional volume. Expect 123grain steel ammo to still get over 2000 fps out of a 10.5” barrel.
      Second, loss of velocity isn’t the same problem with 7.62x39 that it is with 5.56. The latter relies on its speed to create fragmentation and wound channels. The former relies on being a big piece of metal. The previously mentioned 123grain bullet is over twice the mass of 55grain M193 5.56.
      Third, the primary advantage of 300blk over 7.62 in my opinion is plentiful subsonics. Subsonic 7.62 exists but is temperamental and it can be difficult to get reliable function since the AK platform is harder to tune. 300blk also offers a common manual of arms to 5.56 ARs, which is a big deal.
      Having said that, there is no reason to not have a 10.5 or similarly short AK pattern gun that shoots 7.62. They are fun, easy to handle, relatively inexpensive, and effective. I have used a 10.5 shooting hollow point 7.62 to humanely drop large hogs. I have yet to have to track one down after impact.
      I hope this helps.

    Tons of post online about Aero bolts breaking prematurely. Id go with BCM bolt, but the Aero upper itself is pretty good. Though imo Aero doesnt hold a candle to DD, BCM, FN, Colt, or LMT. If i were to only have 1, it would certainly NOT be Aero.

      Well, we are at about 7k rounds on this setup with literally no problems ever. I've never heard of Aero bolts breaking any sooner than other brands but the internet is a large place filled with experts...who knows! Probably a good idea to have extra BCGs on hand regardless of the brand of rifle you are running. Also, were you aware that almost ALL brands use tool craft BCGs and just rebrand them?
