I’ve been in the military for two decades, and I have never talked like this to anyone, even though their conduct may have been “unprofessional” and brought discredit upon themselves and the service. After all, how can I correct others for being unprofessional if I too am acting unprofessionally? Here’s a more appropriate way for handling this ordeal: Dave [to stage manager]: “Hey, the crew on Judas Priest’s stage is doing a sound check which is interrupting the show. Will you please put a stop to that?” Stage Manager: “I’m on it.” [proceeds to coordinate with the other stage manager or directly with the crew] See how easy that was?
Bro imagine how RED that crew member’s face was. I just hope the crew member wasn’t a super young/inexperienced dude trying to learn how to do his job, otherwise, Dave handled this beautifully lmao
For those who don´t know; when there are 2 stages on the same consert, there is usually a 30 minute break between the bands. It´s usually during those 30 minutes you rig the scene and sound check; usually goes like clockwork when the crew knows what they are doing. If I would guess, this is a case of a volunteer working with the Judas Priest crew, that is usually when shenanigans like these happen. Heard a bunch of stuff from a guy I know who worked during Sweden Rock this year, much similar to this.
- Independently, but I commented something very similar. I know that very well from long years of experience. Quite often there is not just two but three stages next to each other, and sometimes all of them goes on full volume in the middle of the set. Hectic I know but tell it to the f***in organisers.
I feel the same as Dave. I hate when someone disrespects something and is showing amateurism. Especially when that goes for any band and their audience. Well said Dave.
As a FOH guy this is why there are changeover allowances before each set, and there's usually a early soundcheck and those settings are saved into memory these days.. Unacceptable
if it all works (aka everything plugged in properly) there is no need to do a full bore sound check anyway, not with today's digital technology. Any engineer who can't get a handle on it by the first chorus of the first song really shouldn't be in that job anyway. You have to think of the other people in the festival because how would you like this being done to your band in the middle of your set? This is not high school talent show crap, this is supposed to be top tier professional work. Festival ticcket prices are not cheap and they are cheating the fans more than the band they are trying to piss off. Maybe Priest crew has a guy with a grudge against MD? No place for that crap in big festival shows.
Mustaine has been guilty of some pretty ordinary “Type A personality” type of shit over the years, but he was rightfully pissed here. That’s some fkn amateur-hour shit from the road crew next door.
You have several ways to line-check the stage without making a lot of noise and soundcheck is done when other bands are done with their shows. You don't have to be the best tech in the world to understand you have to stay quiet when someone else is playing.
Same happened when Twisted Sister was playing. Theres video of it. It was just in the last couple years. He went over and threatened to beat the dudes ass lol
- But it is not for him to say so. Maybe, if he nicely asks a stage pass to the JP-s backstage area but I wouldn't think anybody would give a fuck about him there.
Never change? Good because he was in the right. Think about the people who are magnet fan to paid their hard-earned money to go to that show and then the other assholes are making noise during the set.
This happened to almost every band in Rock Fest 2014, including Megadeth, in Montebello. This is what happens when the organizers get greedy af, you get short af sets from bigger bands, bands get interrupted and cut off cause everyone is so crammed together into a small schedule, idk why the bands themselves accept these conditions knowing what will happen (not their first time) and its just overall too much for the fans too cause it's back to back to back bands playing and it gets exhausting, fast. You hardly get the time to use the potty, let alone get some fresh air or food. This always results in missing bands that you'd otherwise would gladly pay to see, but now you've paid, but you can't see cause of these types of terribly organized schedules.
I remember at high voltage festival, Wendy Dio was doing a speech about Ronnie and you could barely hear her over another band playing on a different stage. It all comes down to scheduling and how far apart the stages are. Don't blame the crew just trying to do their job, they working on a tight time slot just like everybody else

Very common at festivals where the stages are close together. It’s happened to me a bunch and it is always annoying. However the crew is just doing their job. The promoter sets it up this way to limit downtime between sets. The only way to avoid it is to put distance between the two stages.

It's what happens at festivals. He thinks that is bad, try playing second stage when a headline act is actually playing on the next stage along instead of just some sound checks. I have a friend who went to see Limp Bizkit and he said half the audience left the second flames could be seen coming from the main stage at the beginning of Rammstein's set. I've personally had to blank out the sounds of Tool whilst watching slayers last ever UK show. It's just something you get used to. I would have thought Mustaine would have been professional enough to realise this. Or at least to have ignored it and carry on playing. Drown it out Dave. That's what you should do in Metal. Just play heavier, louder and harder. Or at least don't have a little tantrum. You could get away with it as a young angry band, but at your age your starting to look like the old man shouting at clouds.
Well said, he signed on to play a festival and he acts surprised...If he cares that much he should have declined and he's probably doing well enough financially to do that.
@@H.E.M. What the Judas Priest sound check guy could have waited? Coz if that's what your saying I presume you don't know how festivals work. No time can be wasted because there is no time to waste. Bands play, leave the stage immediately and the next band starts setting up immediately so that their band can play immediately. Otherwise you'll end up with huge gaps between bands. And you can't wait for the band on the second stage to finish because then you have even longer gaps. These festivals are very specifically timed to get the most bands playing as possible. They cannot wait for Dave Mustaine to finish playing, especially if he isn't even the headlining act.

If anyone is to blame here, it's the festival's organizer who allowed this to happen. Why didn't Mustaine speak against them? Oh, that's right - because the organizer paid him. He couldn’t just talk to his band manager and have him or her work it out? There’s got to be a better way to resolve this than to punch down on hard-working people who are just trying to do their job.
@@thedebatehitman at that level, its about being a pro (even for the crew). And the dude from the JP Crew was completely unprofessional. If you don't understand what I'm saying, its because you haven't operated on that type of level for anything.
@@HorrorKidd88
The fact that someone is supposedly behaving unprofessionally doesn’t mean that Dave is justified in punching down.
I’ve been in the military for two decades, and I have never talked like this to anyone, even though their conduct may have been “unprofessional” and brought discredit upon themselves and the service. After all, how can I correct others for being unprofessional if I too am acting unprofessionally? Here’s a more appropriate way for handling this ordeal:
Dave [to stage manager]: “Hey, the crew on Judas Priest’s stage is doing a sound check which is interrupting the show. Will you please put a stop to that?”
Stage Manager: “I’m on it.” [proceeds to coordinate with the other stage manager or directly with the crew]
See how easy that was?
@@thedebatehitman respectfully, we have a difference of opinion, and I'm gonna leave it at that.
@@thedebatehitman if you know dave then you would'nt be asking this question
Bro imagine how RED that crew member’s face was. I just hope the crew member wasn’t a super young/inexperienced dude trying to learn how to do his job, otherwise, Dave handled this beautifully lmao
Yeah. It would be bad if it was just some kid that didn't know better or was just doing what he was told by a more senior crew member.
Don’t think a kid that doesn’t know better is sound checking priest.
I highly doubt someone inexperienced and outside the band crew would be able to just touch something making noise on Judas Priest gear.

I'm on Dave's side because I'm sick of people having zero pride nor do they even care if they are doing a good job or not.
In the Barcelona rock fest there's only 5 mins of break between bands
Think Dave might not give a crap anymore about anything at this point in his life. Good for him. Just play symphony of destruction.

Thats relatively calm for Dave lol
Mustaine has been guilty of some pretty ordinary “Type A personality” type of shit over the years, but he was rightfully pissed here. That’s some fkn amateur-hour shit from the road crew next door.

Very common at festivals where the stages are close together. It’s happened to me a bunch and it is always annoying. However the crew is just doing their job. The promoter sets it up this way to limit downtime between sets. The only way to avoid it is to put distance between the two stages.

You never know what will happen on a tour. Gotta be ready for anything.
Dude could’ve waited after the show. That’s the problem.
