    I love how the show has turned Halaena into an empathetic, the most likable of all in team green. She is nothing more than a punching bag in the book. Larys replaced all of Alicent's maids ("They no longer breathe our air" Oof! What a chilling line.) so Alicent knows Larys is watching everything she does and that is why she dismisses them. An 8 for me, just because I am a book nerd and S1 squishing the timeline by some 20 years is having a bit of a butterfly effect but Codal is handling that very well and bringing characters so much more alive and relatable to the audience than most of them were in an oftentimes confusing and conflicting history in the Fire and Blood book.

    They didn’t “kill the wrong son”. They couldn’t find Aemond. They went to his room and he wasn’t there. Remember they asked “what happens if we can’t find him” and they look at Daemon. Daemon must’ve told them to kill the baby boy. Go back and relook! Great review!

      Exactly! That said, the one tiny part I agree with Steve on is that B & C come across as idiots compared to the book version. That whole scene was disappointing for me.

    When a performer and his dragon are referred to as the 'most powerful single force in the realm' he is also saying and alluding that he can be destroyed.

    The assassins didn't mess up, they couldn't find ameon so they took "a son for a son" as directed

    You did forget to mention one of the guys does ask Daemon what happens if they can’t find Aemond and the screen cuts away

      Yep. That cutaway with Daemon and Blood and Cheese is probably where Daemon says something like "If you can't find Aemond then a Son for a Son will do "

    I don’t think the assassins thought they killed the target. I think they realized it was going to be impossible to find him before everyone was alerted and they panicked and took out the first prince they found.

      Most, likely. They did did ask Daemon what they should do if they couldn't find Aemond and we don't hear an answer from him, just that enigmatic stare.😉 But they did have to bring him a head as proof before they would get the other half of their payment. Aemond's head would not be so easy, so who knows?

    The 🩸🧀 was a big disappointment for me. They really strayed from the absolute horror of that scene. It’s obviously still upsetting but no where near what it should have been in the show. It should have been on parr with the red wedding! Otherwise I am glad to be back in Westeros again!

    Although it's not enough to put me off the show, it's getting irksome how much of the major story beats in HOTD turned out to be "accidents". I also don't like that they eliminated the "Sophie's choice" element of Blood & Cheese, but I get why they had to. That being said, if the writers had just used some foresight....

    • @Adamantium93
      @Adamantium93 Месяц назад +2

      I agree that they should have kept the "Sophie's Choice" element from the book, but how was it an accident? They were sent to kill Aemond, and if they couldn't find him, they were told to find a different royal son (his specific words, according to B&C, were "a son for a son"). They literally did what Daemon told them to do. The book even suggests that the children weren't the preferred target but were chosen when a more strategically significant mark (speculated in the book to be Aegon) couldn't be reached.

    The last scene is horrible because it deviated from the great "Sophie's Choice" scene in the book. I don't know why they couldn't take the scene verbatim straight out of the book! So stupid! George RR Martin wrote a perfectly great dramatic scene and they didn't use it. The young Queen Helaena did not silently point to her son like in the show. The boys were awake, and she, her sons, and daughter were overtaken by Blood and Cheese. They said they were debt collectors and were there to "collect a son." Queen Helaena offered herself up instead, to which they refused saying “A wife’s not a son. It has to be a boy.” They also warned her to make a decision quickly or otherwise Blood was going to rape her (very young) daughter. In the end, Queen Helena broke down and offered her younger son, Maelor. So Maelor knew that his mother chose Jaehaerys over him. Imagine the therapy that would take today to know that your mother chose to have you murdered in order to save your brother.
    “You hear that, little boy?” Cheese whispered to Maelor. “Your momma wants you dead.” Then he gave Blood a grin, and the hulking swordsman slew Prince Jaehaerys [her other son], striking off the boy’s head with a single blow.
    This was a much better scene and the fact that they didn't use it in the show is very disappointing and a big letdown. The showrunners think that they know everything, but if the scene is already written in a GoT book, then they should let it play as in the books. Dan and Dave ruined GoT in its last season because they ran out of material and got lazy and just wanted to wrap up the whole damn thing. If they had let George, at the very least, write the ending to the Game of Thrones show, I think we would have gotten a better series finale. I still will never forgive them for making Daenerys the villain in the end. I hope this Ryan guy doesn't follow in Dan & Dave's ignorant footsteps.
