I just got back from an overseas vacation in Europe and Asia, and I had to distance myself from my traveling buddies on several occasions. Ladies, please don’t argue with front desk personnel. Calmly express your concerns or need for amenities.
It's hard to believe that women need to be told such things which should be common sense. But I am so thankful for this channel. Goodness knows a lot of women nowadays need it. Being a lady of class has nothing to do with designer labels. It's all about how you conduct and present yourself.
My family, and I stayed at a lovely hotel in England, because we were visiting the UK, and Europe in general, to show my daughter where in Germany she was born. One morning my daughter who was 10 at the time, told me that she was going next door to see her Nannie and Poppa, my parents, and I told her that was okay, and to not go anywhere else, except back to our room. I went to my parents room about 10 minutes later, so we could all go down for breakfast, and my daughter wasn't there. I was hysterical, and my Momma was too, and my Daddy was yelling for her, and saying what he'd do if anyone grabbed her, and just when I was going to call the front desk, and alert them, the manager of the restaurant called, and said that my daughter was already eating her breakfast, and being very lovely, and she was very polite to him when he made her a plate from the breakfast set up, but he was laughing, because she also asked if she could order from the menu too, because she was a growing child, and was burning calories from exploring England, and that she really loved England, and wanted to stay. He said she acted like a little old lady, but he had the feeling that we didn't know, so he called us. We were laughing, and crying at the same time, because we were so happy that she was safe. So we worked out a deal with the manager, that whenever my daughter made a lone trip to the restaurant, that one of us would call, and alert them that she was on her way, and then him, or an employee would call us,and let us know that she had arrived, and they would stand outside the restaurant, and wait for her, or meet her as she got off the elevator. The hotel was so smitten with her, that they even bought her, her own kinder juice when they ran out, because it was her favorite drink there, and she got tears in her eyes when they said that they were out, but she didn't throw a tantrum, and she politely order something else to drink. When we were leaving, the manager ran to us, and handed us her kinder juice, and told us not to forget her juice, and she hugged him, and told him thank you, and it was nice staying at his hotel. Not even the front desk had a dry eye, and they gave us teas, toiletries, and anything else, because we were not rude, and my daughter acted like a princess. I told her to keep it up, and I'd see what they would give me whenever I took her to Tiffany's and Cartier's. LOL
Thanks for such an informative video. I worked as a Reception Manager in high end hotels for about 15 years and I agree with all your points! Now, when I stay in hotels, I’m extremely conscious of how people behave and treat the staff. Another point I’d like to add, and you may have covered this in a prior video, don’t leave a mess for the housekeeping staff to clean up. Tidy up after yourself and leave your room in the best possible state. Trust me, someone will appreciate it! For example….when I check out, I like to leave all the towels on the sink, not on the floor. Somehow, it just seems more respectful to me.
Excellent. I recently stayed in a five star hotel and would add, quiet elegant behaviour and bring cash to tip housekeeping and restaurant staff. I must leave a positive memory wherever I go.
Vivienne, you had me hollering talking about people groping and gyrating in the spa! I nearly choked on my water laughing! I've seen it with my own eyes and the need to instantly heave is the exact response I had. Decorum is something that people really forget when at hotels. It's a shame when people act foolish even in a luxury setting. It just goes to prove that money does not buy class. Excellent video!
Thank you for this video. It is appalling how many people do these horrible things at hotels. An old boyfriend swiped a wooden hanger, towels, and a hair dryer at an upscale hotel and got away with it (his country does not enforce stealing at hotels too well, at least back then). That was the end of our relationship, and I happily moved on. We stayed at a lower-cost, two-story hotel near a major airport one time, and my aunt complained there was no elevator to the hotel manager because her feet were swelling. How ridiculous! There was nothing the hotel staff could do to install an elevator just for her. That was 20 years ago, so maybe they finally have an elevator to accommodate those who need it, definitely not because of my aunt.
Thank you for sharing. I plan to travel soon and this helps! I didn’t think it was “bad” etiquette for having a romantic moment with a partner to be “unsightly” seeing it on television so much or even in real life. I am aware that this concept of distasteful at a luxury hotel but would be a matter of perspective I suppose. Again, thank you. 💛
I think that we can take whatever are "left" of bathroom vanities. Not reordering, but taking the things that are already use by you. Is the most environmental friendly thing to do...
Thank you so very much for everything. I am a mature woman and over many years I have used the words, crass and uncouth. You are the first person I have ever heard using these same two words. A few times, I actually had to look them up in the dictionary, because I thought that I might have made them up.
Hello Vivienne, you have inspired me so much to become a better woman. I am blessed to have come across your channel,God bless you always. I would like to know if you have begun your class on skillshare as I have started following you already and looking forward to learning speaking English elegantly from you❤️
I've also called hotels, well in advance, and asked if there will be additional charges and holds so those fees can be anticipated in my budget. I hope this helps someone.
Vivienne, what a nice surprise! 🌹 You are the most elegant lady I've seen, and I also hope you will have a speaking course so that we may learn from the best. ✨
I once ordered room service and there was hair on the food. I called the restaurant and only said, my food has hair on it. The person apologised and said they will prepare another order for me. I said thank you. There was no need to cause a scene or ask for the manager. I'm sure they came up with a way to prevent hair finding it's way into the food, in future.
And please, please, please... Don't invite people who are not poised for your hotel stay OR limousine lift. Being a member of a luxury brand hotel in the US, it was my birthday and everyone in the hotel knows me and treated me well...but I was highly embarrassed of my friends behavior. They jumped on the bed with shoes and scratched the hotel bathtub with their high heel shoes just to take a selfie 🤳 that was the first and last time I invited them. Some people are just a beer and salsa and not fine wine.
Thank you! I agree-those “friends” are beer and salsa (disposable friends who are a dime a dozen). We want fine wine friends we can keep for life (and are, unfortunately, hard to find).
@@lamandadavis9135 aawww! You’re so sweet and deserve fine wine friends. That old boyfriend I mentioned in my own post is worse than rotten beer and salsa, so I dumped him after that. A fine wine friend, let alone partner, is so rare.
Wonderful video, thank you! May I also ask your followers to choose appropriate swimwear and have a sarong or wrap to cover up. I am on holiday currently and was shocked to see a lady wearing a thong bikini into a restaurant, just because it was next to the beach. I felt this was disrespectful to the establishment which had clearly printed out a dress code.
Excellent video! I would also like to add that is not elegant to heap your breakfast plate with lots of food, leaving less for others, at the breakfast bar. Gluttony is not elegant!
Lol. Do people actually book hotels without funds? That's so embarrassing Most people don't see taking items from the hotel as 'theft'. They just take it all. Thanks for spelling this out.
Having a Mary Poppins accent (that I love) and the name Vivian, one couldn't be anything but elegant. Not part of your crowd, but interesting insight. ✌🏽 *Not sure if this is the correct way to spell your name.
👏👏👏👏👏 I agree, I must admit I thought it’s ok to go down with pyjamas… once they weren’t revealing 🙈 Your comment about Olympic style swimming laps made me 😂😂😂 Great video.
Dear Vivian, I'm frankly quite appalled by some points you brought to our attention. I didn't even imagine some people could behave like that in luxury hotels, and since I was lucky enough, thanks to my family to enjoy staying in some of the best hotels around since I was born, I certainly saw some '' new money'' people or anyway, people who weren't clearly used to the etiquette and ways of these places. But I never saw such appalling things like people strolling in the lobby in their nightgown, or similar... I saw frequently people coming from the hotel' s pool, in bikini and a skimpy short or worse, a pareo, and go to the dining room or terrace. Even if it's an open space it doesn't mean guests are allowed to show up in swimwear, men bare chest, women in bikini tops or bathing suits. Ladies, there are enough nice, Summer dresses, even Kaftans, or any other decent, and elegant options to cover ourselves during lunch or, worse, dinner! It shows lack of respect for the maître d'hôtel, and the waiting staff. And a lack of boundaries and class. I personally never use the free products available for showers etc, having always my own brands with me, unless it's really an unexpected trip, which I avoid. My mum taught me that, even if it's available, it doesn't mean that it must be used or worse taken home! We can afford soap and shampoo, do we? Without stealing the '' freebies''... Thanks again for a video that will be useful, no doubt, to many people. I wish some people I know would watch it! ❤ Many nice things your way, you look splendid my dear.
It is quite sad that you even have to make this video. . . Especially about being in public in your "jammies"! I wear a simple, comfortable knit dress at night so that if I need to make a quick trip to the ice machine, coffee bar, etc., I can quickly wash my face, brush my teeth and hair and slip on a pair sandals. Unfortunately, even that attire is more appropriate than what I see women wearing while site-seeing, shopping, etc.
Sorry Vjviav do love you but any animal resbling print is not elegant and yes online booking now takes the full payment prior to arrival or payment is paid on arrival minus food, drinks
