I don't know man, I don't think studio interference matters much in this film. I understand that you acknowledge that it was still bad outside of that, but I feel like you're giving Shane Black too much credit. This was a disaster from top to bottom. Your video comes off like this was 90% studio, 10%, apologetically, was Shane. I disagree, but I respect your opinion.
It's a tuff call between Predator 2 and Predators. Predators first 2 acts we're fucking great, great characters but the 3rd act was kinda lame. Adrian Brody? WTF we're they thinking. Ok he did a good job acting wise but he was all wrong for that part imo. And they make him do the same thing that Dutch did with the mud...come on.
The writers had it all wrong. Predator was portrayed wrong and not true to form: badass savage killing machine at top of food chain. plot of movie all over the place and instead of letting audience connect to the character of the Predators, they try to make us care about the plot armored protagonist and his supporting characters. Without suspense, The Predator (2018) is not a true Predator movie. Even the AVP films had suspense. The only hint of suspense came when Olivia Munn's character was hiding in the decontamination scene naked and the classic Predator finds her. This film tried too hard be funny. It felt like a parody. This was very apparent when Munn and they other scientists are explaining the how the Predators got their name. And I was hoping that Black would hold true to the Predator lore. Collecting human spinal cords to collect the fluid to genetically modify themselves? The Predator species view genetic modification with disdain as they see it as diluting bloodlines. That's why the Predators view Predaliens as abominations. I walked out of this film confused and disgusted.

True in the next installments are we going to see 3,4,5 different types of predators each with different prey? This ones not even looking for prey its a predator scientist of sorts. Bringing the predator dogs back from the predators game reserve served no purpose at all. Its a fun prop thats no fun at all as these creatures should scare you to death not fetch explosives for you. All that said i love everything predator so ill give it the benefit of the doubt and hope for huge improvement in the next One
I am glad the sex offender scene was removed. Shane Black fucked up there. It explains why Olivia Munn looked upset when you first saw her and her intro wasn't properly introduced. But that scene wasn't needed. I did read the script of the original Shane Black cut before Fox fucked it up and it's not good but it's definitely an improvement over what we got here. I definitely didn't like that they changed the purpose of predator hunting. That is bullshit. It's for trophies, honor, and moving up in ranks, no more no less.
Predator 2 was different, but in hindsight a fun film with plenty of interest raising additions to the lore and world of the Predators. Not as good as the first, and not my favorite, but still a very good film as far as I am concerned.
My problem is that I expected too much from this movie. Its characters are dumber than the ones from AvP Requiem. A kid with autism worked in Mimic (1997) but not here. Predators were never called predators but in this movie they finally did it. Why? Oh and predators talk with humans. I'm done

Dáithí Ó Pléimeann I didn't like the dark tone of AvPR. You don't see anything in that darkness. I like its locations and even its story line but the characters are unlikeable. Plus xenomorphs looked very weak in that film
You can turn up the lighting on your t.v. and pc which might improve your quality of viewing on AVP Requiem.. I thought the characters were smooth all the way through some likable and some bad guys too which is natural to pull on the emotions of the viewer.. I'll have to watch it again to see if the characters are not that unlikable as you say.. Not sure what you mean by that? Maybe you meant that the characters didn't fit the part as characters are meant to have both likable and unlikable traits about them to make them more interesting. Again, with the new Predator film, there is way to much dialog, way to many one liners and basically way to much of everything plus dreadful CGI.. There was no need for the giant Predator and those awful looking dogs and the ending was so bad with the dreadful fight scenes the film just died.. If the director set out to ruin a film he couldn't of done a better job than this.. There's no mystery to the predators in this film, there's way to much confusion and in your face needles everything.. The first two AVP's and Predator movies 1. and 2. were much better than this magnificent flop..

The movie is bad but I don’t think that youcan blame it on studio execs, they let Shane Black make the film that he wanted but it tested so poorly that they had no choice but to change things. The first half of the film was just as bad as the second half and I think that he was just the wrong choice.
Cody Leach even the director himself has said that the original version of the film had problems and that the final act needed work, I think that this whole project was just a bad idea from the start...
Blu terror I'd say take out the upgrade idea and make the bigger predator just an anomaly in the predator species, reduce the predator weapons that the govt have collected to just 3 instead of five because it's just make the predators seemed incompetent. Also, have the earth guys still not knowing much about the predator technologies because we can't duplicate the unknown materials so it'd remain formidable, mysterious, and foreboding when we think about the predators. As for the story line, a damaged ship that crashed should make the classic predator suffered more injuries on top of what occurred before the ultimate pred's space assault so it'd be more believable when the sniper knocked it out in beginning. No tech should be taken by the sniper, just have him saw the space alien so no Asperger syndrome plotline. Even if Shana Black wants to keep it, reduce it to minimum so have the kid was inspired by the tech that he saw and try to understand it ever since in his entire life to have future storylines instead of just make him understand everything. I think that will make the film a lot better just by adjusting those few areas of the story. A better designed scientific lab would help as well.

In my mid 30's... I remember vividly being disappointed with Predator 2 because it just didn't live up to my expectations of what the sequel should be to one of my favorite action flicks. But God damn do I appreciate the hell out of that movie now. It stands head and shoulders above anything they have tried to make since then. It is a damn fine movie.

At first i was hyped as hell when it looked like the ship was taking off with Mckenna and his son onboard. I thought the movie would end there and the next movie would take place on the Predator's world with this father and son fighting to stay alive. But no...the movie kept going for another 15 minutes of shit.
Looking through the comments section I don't see how anybody was hyped for this movie. I knew this movie was going to be trash and didn't waste my time on it. No matter how many times Hollywood tries to remake a movie from the 80s 90s or 70s most of the time if not all it's not going to be as good as the original and this was no exception. Hollywood has all the technology and fancy CGI and all that stuff but Hollywood has poor writing poor directing and poor acting in a lot of their movies these days. Face it this generation of movies over the last 8 years 9 years or so has just been absolutely garbage. I wasn't the least bit surprised that this movie was trash.
I so wanted to believe Shane Black was going to bring this franchise back but, I was so disappointed like you were Cody. It's bad enough that the studio interfere and gave us that horrible ending, Shane Black's script didn't do him any favors as well. Bad jokes, no character development, and bad CGI is what brings this movie down.

Shane Black is an excellent example of humor overriding all other priorities in his writing. The dude comes up with hilarious one-liners for sure, but he lets them take center-stage over everything else, which is why anytime he steps outside of strict comedy, his writing and direction just fall flat for me
I enjoyed the predator until they go into the main character ex wife house and soon after that the movie went downhill very fast. I wanted them rejects to die as soon as possible. I was looking forward this this movie all year, totally disappointed with this pile if garbage, rating 2/10
Just saw this movie last night. I decided to see it no matter the reviews. I couldn't tell what the hell I was watching. The tone of the movie is all over the place. I can't tell wether I'm supposed to laugh or be scared in the movie. Also the movie had so many missed opportunities that didn't work. Don't get me wrong it made me laugh and I enjoyed when the Predator was on screen but the last half of the movie is when you're going to be face palming. Not an F movie but definitely like a C- or D imo.
Battle Rifle I agree. I said the exact same thing. It was a mess and dissapointing. The movie started very good like 15 min of the intro was great! Including the lab scene. After that the two Predators fight it started getting bad. My favorite Predator movie is the 1st which is mostly everyones and Predators 2010 which is the third. Those are the two best Predator films ever made. 2 was ok. Avps had problems. But this one was straight up garabage. The kid is the worst in this movie.. Wtf they had to put him in the movie? Yes, that's what I got as the film was a mixed bag of to many ideas thrown into the hat which left me feeling confused.. Like was there even a main character? For me there was way to much dialog and to many actors in this film.. Mr Hat Movie Reviews I have NO clue it happened so fast I didn’t even realize it was him at first. It SEEMED like Olivia munn’s character called his name, he turned his head towards her, and the predator gun mounted on his shoulder turned and blew his head off for no reason. The editing was so awful there and none of it made any sense.

That movie stunk all to be damned.. What made me most angry was the Predators clear communication with humans. It REALLY messed with the intrigue and mystique of the alien species. I sucked my teeth ridiculously hard when the Pred used a severed arm to give that thumbs up, and when he made that subtle "drop the gun" gesture.
You're the first person to comment on those that I've seen. Pissed me off! It was insulting. I knew it was going to suck from the beginning of the movie when the two aliens were chasing each other and you could hear the cannon sounding like pew pew.
Why was everybody assuming that Shane Black would make a great Predator movie?! The guy is a one trick pony writer/director,his entire career he's doing the exact same movie. 'member Iron Man 3? Same thing here. *STOP DEFENDING THIS HACK* The other thing is this:the original movie is so great,because it's a subversive movie.It starts out like a normal 80's ''commandos in the jungle''-flick and then turns into a slasher,but instead of Jason or M.Myers,we have an Alien with advanced weapons and tech.The guys from RLM made a fantastic analysis on it. The new movie,is just a Rated-R version of Guardians of the Galaxy,with F-Bombs and gore.

I know the majority of the net is slating this film (quite rightly) but i think you picked out every point that i hated about this film and explained exactly why i hated it. One of the points i didn't even realise why i hated that bit so much but then you nailed it for me! Great stuff, keep up the good work. Will be coming back for all my movie reviews in future.
Sterling Brown's death scene was so quick and difficult to see that I thought Olivia Munn's character was the one who died from the way it was edited. lol
I thought The Predator was dumb horror/action fun. It was fast paced, I liked the characters, I thought the dialogue was funny, the Predator got some cool gory moments, the effects were good, I enjoyed some of the additions they made to the lore. Was it perfect? No. Did it have dumb shit? Yep! But I appreciated that it wasn't a beat for beat retread like Predators and that it wasn't angry and gloomy like Predator 2 (which I like too). I hope it finds an audience because it seems anytime they try to reboot or sequelise Predator, everyone hates it, it underperforms and we have to wait years for another one. If folk hate it, that's fair enough but give it a go and you might actually enjoy it! Its at 35% on rotten tomatoes so its fair to say that 1 in 3 folk like it, you never know- you might be one of those!
Steven Fraser I think you “got it” like I did. This was made to be late night movie schlock. Like so crazy / zany / trashy that it becomes awesome and lovable. I could almost imagine Shane Black and Fred Dekker sitting in one of their homes drinking beer and saying “how crazy would it be if BLANK...”. It had the feel of two kids in a candy store getting to do whatever they wanted.
Think most, myself included, hang on to the first two films and the tone/direction they had throughout. Think people just aren't keen on sequels being turned into generic slasher flicks (with the exception of Predators). Happens with most sequels though. To be honest, after the first two it's pointless having the predator hidden throughout because we all know what it looks like. So it'd be pointless to follow the exact formulae as in the first two films. Honestly, fans like me probably don't know what we want. It's just definitely not what we've been shown so far, mindless popcorn flick. Not going to lie, that's a very hard audience to cater to. If you enjoyed it though, then that's all good. Not saying people shouldn't. Just not what a lot of people wanted.
I'm a little bit curious about this film ,but with the caution and negative coverage. I'll go the safe route and stream it online when an HD quality comes out. Which should be in about two weeks. I can't in good faith give this movie my hard earned money.
Saw this movie on Friday night. I went in expecting it to be bad - I had already heard a lot about the script and screenplay that made me cringe - but it was even worse. And I love Shane Black. And I used to be a fan of both the Alien and Predator franchises. Everything about this new movie was god-awful. And I knew it was going to be worse than expected when it opened like a fucking Star Wars movie, rather than a Predator movie.
I hate this film!! AvP Requiem to me, is a masterpiece next to this and I'm dead serious. I'm affraid this movie will be the end of the entire predator series.

In Predator 2 Danny Glover wins over Predator so did Sanaa Lathan in AVP and a bunch of Predator let the be like ice cream truck would ignore the grownups...no attempt to take their DNA, pure warrior v warrior theme... So this suggested theory that Predators are bettering their DNA with BEST HUMAN WARRIOR DNA doesn't make sense or someone here is being a racist... AND SURELY BETTERING DNA WILL NOT END UP IN SUPER SLOW, YET TOUCH TALL LIZARD THAT CAN'T TALK ENGLISH, but the less evolved ones in the 80s could, so the new Predator to me was more like a SCARY MOVIE PREDATOR, a parody with no tension, odd Predator dog following humans for no reason and a big slow Predator being as predictable as 100th swimming lesson...
Where predator goes downhill is where they focus on super predators, three predators hunting at one time, etc. instead of just showing one solitary predator hunting. I could go into an extensive rant about it but that’s the foundation right there
I really don’t mind the idea of a clan war amongst the Predators/Yautja race. The problem is, we’ve seen that done better in Predators 2010. They should have expanded from there, had the Upgrade be a member of that renegade black predator clan from that movie. Have the film be about a nobler clan sending a representative to try and prepare us for a potential war against the rogue clans, don’t turn the whole races into generic bad guys!
Awesome review Cody & perfectly summed up, this was awful, plot inconsistencies & shambolic lazy character arcs, over the top humour which dilutes any tension or build up, naff CGI, Marvel movie ending & that's not the half of it. You can easily spot the reshoots & I agree in why hire someone like Shane Black when all the studio do is rip to shreds Blacks original vision, I can't believe this is Shane Black who wrote Lethal Weapon & The Last Boy Scout, those films had humour but also drama & emotion, look at the Riggs attempted suicide scene, Black can write drama so where was it in this film?
Right off the bat: Shane Black says point blank on the documentary feature on the special edition Predator DVD, “I did nothing on the script.” He was brought in to try a rewrite and they rejected his version, so they just gave him a small role in the movie.
The "comedy" in this seems to be Shane taking the jokes that Hawkins tells in Predator and thinking that's what the humour in a Predator movie needs to be and making a whole fucking movie using it.
After I saw the first trailer I had a feeling it's not gonna be good...the same thing happened with Terminator Genesys, Alien Covenant and Jurassic World ...they were all very disappointing movies to me...that's too bad Hollywood run out of ideas...
I have a friend that is Predaor lore obsessed. Kinda like Lee is with Michael Myers and even my friend told me to not see this film in theaters and to wait on blu ray. I have every predator film up to this one so I'll probably take his advice and wait.

I also recommend a ton of documentaries as this is the year of the documentary. The best blockbuster of the year is Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Hey Cody, I really enjoyed your review - it made me laugh! I totally agree with your review - it's always reassuring to know that other Predator fans are also disappointed in this movie. I'm still trying to work out why Olivia Munn's scientist character suddenly becomes a special forces , sniper rifle expert. It makes Predator2 look like Godfather Part 2!!!. In fact it may have killed the Predator franchise.
In defence of the two FBI agents from Die Hard their demise does lead to one of my all time favourite dead pan lines in movie history: "I guess we're gonna need some new FBI guys...."
AvP:R at least makes sense, yes it's cheesy, yes the main characters are fuckuing stupid, but the story makes more sense and there's a thread you can follow, also Wolf is a kick ass Pred. The Predalien is cool too. The predator has almost nothing reedemable other than the awakening scene
Also, the allusion towards a hidden thing or red herring goes all the way back to Ann Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho (1794); the heroine glimpses something horrifying behind a curtain. The reader is told that it's horrifying to such a degree that the narrator doesn't explain what it is for over 400(!) pages. By the time we learn what it is, there's no way it can live up to what we've imagined, which is why it's better not to even show it, in most cases, i.e., John Patrick Shanley's Doubt (2008). I wonder what it could be in The Predator... :P
By far the worst movie was that gawd awful Alien Covenant. Relative to that, this Predator was AAAA+. I had a choice of trimming a 30ft high tree with a 60 year old rickety extension ladder or go see the Predator earlier today....my expectations were low for this movie that it actually was OK. With my low IQ it was a little jumbled and hard to follow, but I give it a B-
A sequel to predators would've been way better, that story deserves to be explored.

Without suspense, The Predator (2018) is not a true Predator movie. Even the AVP films had suspense. The only hint of suspense came when Olivia Munn's character was hiding in the decontamination scene naked and the classic Predator finds her. This film tried too hard be funny. It felt like a parody. This was very apparent when Munn and they other scientists are explaining the how the Predators got their name. And I was hoping that Black would hold true to the Predator lore. Collecting human spinal cords to collect the fluid to genetically modify themselves? The Predator species view genetic modification with disdain as they see it as diluting bloodlines. That's why the Predators view Predaliens as abominations. I walked out of this film confused and disgusted.

True in the next installments are we going to see 3,4,5 different types of predators each with different prey? This ones not even looking for prey its a predator scientist of sorts. Bringing the predator dogs back from the predators game reserve served no purpose at all. Its a fun prop thats no fun at all as these creatures should scare you to death not fetch explosives for you. All that said i love everything predator so ill give it the benefit of the doubt and hope for huge improvement in the next One

I am glad the sex offender scene was removed. Shane Black fucked up there. It explains why Olivia Munn looked upset when you first saw her and her intro wasn't properly introduced. But that scene wasn't needed. I did read the script of the original Shane Black cut before Fox fucked it up and it's not good but it's definitely an improvement over what we got here. I definitely didn't like that they changed the purpose of predator hunting. That is bullshit. It's for trophies, honor, and moving up in ranks, no more no less.

Predator 2 was different, but in hindsight a fun film with plenty of interest raising additions to the lore and world of the Predators. Not as good as the first, and not my favorite, but still a very good film as far as I am concerned.

Dáithí Ó Pléimeann I didn't like the dark tone of AvPR. You don't see anything in that darkness. I like its locations and even its story line but the characters are unlikeable. Plus xenomorphs looked very weak in that film
You can turn up the lighting on your t.v. and pc which might improve your quality of viewing on AVP Requiem.. I thought the characters were smooth all the way through some likable and some bad guys too which is natural to pull on the emotions of the viewer.. I'll have to watch it again to see if the characters are not that unlikable as you say.. Not sure what you mean by that? Maybe you meant that the characters didn't fit the part as characters are meant to have both likable and unlikable traits about them to make them more interesting. Again, with the new Predator film, there is way to much dialog, way to many one liners and basically way to much of everything plus dreadful CGI.. There was no need for the giant Predator and those awful looking dogs and the ending was so bad with the dreadful fight scenes the film just died.. If the director set out to ruin a film he couldn't of done a better job than this.. There's no mystery to the predators in this film, there's way to much confusion and in your face needles everything.. The first two AVP's and Predator movies 1. and 2. were much better than this magnificent flop..

The movie is bad but I don’t think that youcan blame it on studio execs, they let Shane Black make the film that he wanted but it tested so poorly that they had no choice but to change things. The first half of the film was just as bad as the second half and I think that he was just the wrong choice.

Cody Leach even the director himself has said that the original version of the film had problems and that the final act needed work, I think that this whole project was just a bad idea from the start...
Blu terror I'd say take out the upgrade idea and make the bigger predator just an anomaly in the predator species, reduce the predator weapons that the govt have collected to just 3 instead of five because it's just make the predators seemed incompetent. Also, have the earth guys still not knowing much about the predator technologies because we can't duplicate the unknown materials so it'd remain formidable, mysterious, and foreboding when we think about the predators.
As for the story line, a damaged ship that crashed should make the classic predator suffered more injuries on top of what occurred before the ultimate pred's space assault so it'd be more believable when the sniper knocked it out in beginning. No tech should be taken by the sniper, just have him saw the space alien so no Asperger syndrome plotline. Even if Shana Black wants to keep it, reduce it to minimum so have the kid was inspired by the tech that he saw and try to understand it ever since in his entire life to have future storylines instead of just make him understand everything.
I think that will make the film a lot better just by adjusting those few areas of the story.
A better designed scientific lab would help as well.

In my mid 30's... I remember vividly being disappointed with Predator 2 because it just didn't live up to my expectations of what the sequel should be to one of my favorite action flicks. But God damn do I appreciate the hell out of that movie now. It stands head and shoulders above anything they have tried to make since then. It is a damn fine movie.

At first i was hyped as hell when it looked like the ship was taking off with Mckenna and his son onboard. I thought the movie would end there and the next movie would take place on the Predator's world with this father and son fighting to stay alive. But no...the movie kept going for another 15 minutes of shit.

Looking through the comments section I don't see how anybody was hyped for this movie. I knew this movie was going to be trash and didn't waste my time on it. No matter how many times Hollywood tries to remake a movie from the 80s 90s or 70s most of the time if not all it's not going to be as good as the original and this was no exception. Hollywood has all the technology and fancy CGI and all that stuff but Hollywood has poor writing poor directing and poor acting in a lot of their movies these days. Face it this generation of movies over the last 8 years 9 years or so has just been absolutely garbage. I wasn't the least bit surprised that this movie was trash.

It's bad enough that the studio interfere and gave us that horrible ending, Shane Black's script didn't do him any favors as well. Bad jokes, no character development, and bad CGI is what brings this movie down.

Shane Black is an excellent example of humor overriding all other priorities in his writing. The dude comes up with hilarious one-liners for sure, but he lets them take center-stage over everything else, which is why anytime he steps outside of strict comedy, his writing and direction just fall flat for me

Just saw this movie last night. I decided to see it no matter the reviews. I couldn't tell what the hell I was watching. The tone of the movie is all over the place. I can't tell wether I'm supposed to laugh or be scared in the movie. Also the movie had so many missed opportunities that didn't work. Don't get me wrong it made me laugh and I enjoyed when the Predator was on screen but the last half of the movie is when you're going to be face palming. Not an F movie but definitely like a C- or D imo.
Battle Rifle I agree. I said the exact same thing. It was a mess and dissapointing. The movie started very good like 15 min of the intro was great! Including the lab scene. After that the two Predators fight it started getting bad.
My favorite Predator movie is the 1st which is mostly everyones and Predators 2010 which is the third. Those are the two best Predator films ever made. 2 was ok. Avps had problems. But this one was straight up garabage.

Yes, that's what I got as the film was a mixed bag of to many ideas thrown into the hat which left me feeling confused.. Like was there even a main character? For me there was way to much dialog and to many actors in this film.. It's a case of to many cooks spoiling the broth as this film feels like it had 3 or 4 different directors who were clashing so much with one another that they ended up with this mess pile.. I was so disappointed with this film..

Mr Hat Movie Reviews I have NO clue it happened so fast I didn’t even realize it was him at first. It SEEMED like Olivia munn’s character called his name, he turned his head towards her, and the predator gun mounted on his shoulder turned and blew his head off for no reason. The editing was so awful there and none of it made any sense.

What made me most angry was the Predators clear communication with humans.
It REALLY messed with the intrigue and mystique of the alien species.
I sucked my teeth ridiculously hard when the Pred used a severed arm to give that thumbs up, and when he made that subtle "drop the gun" gesture.
You're the first person to comment on those that I've seen. Pissed me off! It was insulting. I knew it was going to suck from the beginning of the movie when the two aliens were chasing each other and you could hear the cannon sounding like pew pew.

I know the majority of the net is slating this film (quite rightly) but i think you picked out every point that i hated about this film and explained exactly why i hated it. I thought The Predator was dumb horror/action fun. It was fast paced, I liked the characters, I thought the dialogue was funny, the Predator got some cool gory moments, the effects were good, I enjoyed some of the additions they made to the lore. Was it perfect? No. Did it have dumb shit? Yep! But I appreciated that it wasn't a beat for beat retread like Predators and that it wasn't angry and gloomy like Predator 2 (which I like too).
I hope it finds an audience because it seems anytime they try to reboot or sequelise Predator, everyone hates it, it underperforms and we have to wait years for another one. If folk hate it, that's fair enough but give it a go and you might actually enjoy it! Its at 35% on rotten tomatoes so its fair to say that 1 in 3 folk like it, you never know- you might be one of those!
Steven Fraser I think you “got it” like I did. This was made to be late night movie schlock. Like so crazy / zany / trashy that it becomes awesome and lovable. I could almost imagine Shane Black and Fred Dekker sitting in one of their homes drinking beer and saying “how crazy would it be if BLANK...”. It had the feel of two kids in a candy store getting to do whatever they wanted.
Think most, myself included, hang on to the first two films and the tone/direction they had throughout. Think people just aren't keen on sequels being turned into generic slasher flicks (with the exception of Predators). Happens with most sequels though. To be honest, after the first two it's pointless having the predator hidden throughout because we all know what it looks like. So it'd be pointless to follow the exact formulae as in the first two films. Honestly, fans like me probably don't know what we want. It's just definitely not what we've been shown so far, mindless popcorn flick. Not going to lie, that's a very hard audience to cater to.
If you enjoyed it though, then that's all good. Not saying people shouldn't. Just not what a lot of people wanted.
I'm a little bit curious about this film ,but with the caution and negative coverage. I'll go the safe route and stream it online when an HD quality comes out. Which should be in about two weeks. I can't in good faith give this movie my hard earned money.

Saw this movie on Friday night. I went in expecting it to be bad - I had already heard a lot about the script and screenplay that made me cringe - but it was even worse. And I love Shane Black. And I used to be a fan of both the Alien and Predator franchises. Everything about this new movie was god-awful. And I knew it was going to be worse than expected when it opened like a fucking Star Wars movie, rather than a Predator movie.

I really don’t mind the idea of a clan war amongst the Predators/Yautja race.
The problem is, we’ve seen that done better in Predators 2010. They should have expanded from there, had the Upgrade be a member of that renegade black predator clan from that movie.
Have the film be about a nobler clan sending a representative to try and prepare us for a potential war against the rogue clans, don’t turn the whole races into generic bad guys!
In the script, the very last thing you see is Dutch (Arnold) saying that a war has started.
Awesome review Cody & perfectly summed up, this was awful, plot inconsistencies & shambolic lazy character arcs, over the top humour which dilutes any tension or build up, naff CGI, Marvel movie ending & that's not the half of it.
You can easily spot the reshoots & I agree in why hire someone like Shane Black when all the studio do is rip to shreds Blacks original vision, I can't believe this is Shane Black who wrote Lethal Weapon & The Last Boy Scout, those films had humour but also drama & emotion, look at the Riggs attempted suicide scene, Black can write drama so where was it in this film?
Right off the bat: Shane Black says point blank on the documentary feature on the special edition Predator DVD, “I did nothing on the script.” He was brought in to try a rewrite and they rejected his version, so they just gave him a small role in the movie.

The "comedy" in this seems to be Shane taking the jokes that Hawkins tells in Predator and thinking that's what the humour in a Predator movie needs to be and making a whole fucking movie using it.

The only thing that made me come close to laughter is the CG Predator going on a quest for autism.
I think this movie may have killed the franchise. Predators was definitely better than this one.
My "Predator" Soul was crushed.......deeply disappointed.
Good established directors NEED to start putting *Studio Non-Interference Clauses* in their contracts that assure them total creative control & the final say on the final cut.
Hey Cody, I really enjoyed your review - it made me laugh! I totally agree with your review - it's always reassuring to know that other Predator fans are also disappointed in this movie. I'm still trying to work out why Olivia Munn's scientist character suddenly becomes a special forces , sniper rifle expert. It makes Predator2 look like Godfather Part 2!!!. In fact it may have killed the Predator franchise.
Thank God for these reviews, dont have to waste time going to the movies and wasting money on a shit story.

In defence of the two FBI agents from Die Hard their demise does lead to one of my all time favourite dead pan lines in movie history:
"I guess we're gonna need some new FBI guys...."
Oh I'm not knocking those characters I love them. Just a comparison.

AvP:R at least makes sense, yes it's cheesy, yes the main characters are fuckuing stupid, but the story makes more sense and there's a thread you can follow, also Wolf is a kick ass Pred. The Predalien is cool too. The predator has almost nothing reedemable other than the awakening scene

I just saw it and I thought the first 20-30 min was good and then it just sucked after that
Also, the allusion towards a hidden thing or red herring goes all the way back to Ann Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho (1794); the heroine glimpses something horrifying behind a curtain. The reader is told that it's horrifying to such a degree that the narrator doesn't explain what it is for over 400(!) pages. By the time we learn what it is, there's no way it can live up to what we've imagined, which is why it's better not to even show it, in most cases, i.e., John Patrick Shanley's Doubt (2008). I wonder what it could be in The Predator... :P
I'm with you Cody. For me this movie is probably the biggest disappointment of this year. What a shame :'(
By far the worst movie was that gawd awful Alien Covenant. Relative to that, this Predator was AAAA+. I had a choice of trimming a 30ft high tree with a 60 year old rickety extension ladder or go see the Predator earlier today....my expectations were low for this movie that it actually was OK. With my low IQ it was a little jumbled and hard to follow, but I give it a B-
