    I hope this review blows up man. This is literally the 1 stop shot people need when they want to know everything possible about the meta quest 3. No need to keep apologizing for a long review especially when its timestamp and so neatly marked and organized. People can see the total time before they click on it and if they didn't want an hour+ video they wouldn't've clicked. I hope you do a review just as long for the bigscreen beyond and spend time talking about who exactly that headset is targeting. Cuz i'm an snob for high resolution and fps and im mostly interested in PC-VR gaming, but i have none of the gear or base stations or anything. So ill be looking forward to what you have to say about that headset too. I mean it when i say i really do not subscribe to people that often, and i may have taken me 2 days to watch this video but im glad i didnt skip any of it cuz i was looking for the maximum information possible. You earned my sub, see ya in the next one xP

      Wow, I read your comment yesterday and decided to sleep on it before replying because it actually made me cry - not in a bad way! I definitely overthink a lot of things, and my content is something that I heavily criticize. Without getting into too much detail, I've been having some self doubts lately, and hearing such nice things about something I am incredibly critical about is a huge relief as I pick myself back up and get back to creating some content. It's so nice to read everything you wrote, thank you, everything you said means a lot to me and I really appreciate it.
      As for the Bigscreen Beyond review, I will keep you in mind when making my review videos for it and I will be excited to share all of the details I can find about it. I am both excited for the OLED panels, but also somewhat nervous because the FOV is smaller than what I am used to. Every review I've seen so far people seem to be okay with the trade-off of FOV because everything else is done so well, so I guess we will see how I feel about it once I get my hands on it. Thanks again for the kind words and the sub. I'll do my best to continue to entertain 😅

      I play a lot of PCVR with this thing, it's pretty dang great! I use a dedicated Wifi-6E Repeater as an access point and stream via Virtual Desktop with AV1 encoding at 200mbit/s to the Quest from my pc :)
      Works good overall, but sadly games like Walkabout Minigolf don't work with VD, I get MASSIVE network spikes the second I look down in that game... So I had to buy it again on the Quest Store. Hope they'll patch in a Quest 3 graphics update at least as it does look worse in comparison to PCVR.

      @@darrenwhitehouse7665 Thank you so much for the kind words! I also do quite a bit of sim racing, and I agree with you 100%. Seeing the details of the cars in front of you is great, there's a whole new layer of immersion which the Quest 3 provides with its clarity. The FOV is also a major improvement which was really surprising and very unexpected. This headset just needs OLED panels and it will be the best VR headset on the market, especially if the price stays. The only real downsides for me is a lack of display port because the compression is too bad for me to enjoy some games, which is why I will still be using a dedicated PCVR headset next to the Quest 3.

    Engineers design cars to fall apart/break when working on now, so I believe you about the plastic clips. It’s just another way to get people to “upgrade” stuff. If they sell a perfect product that last forever and doesn’t need upgraded they don’t make maximum profit. Kinda like planned obsolescence

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад +2

      You have the right to your own wrong opinion, and that's totally fine! Haha I am kidding of course. Everyone's experience is different, so it is fun to see others who don't have this issue and cannot see the SDE, and try to figure out why. Logically speaking, my unit may have better optical clarity because I can see the SDE, so maybe your lenses are slightly out of focus which causes a slight blur effect making the SDE invisible for you. What else could it be? Maybe you need glasses? 😲🤣🤓
      Yeah glare is definitely a thing, but it is much much better than any other headset I've used so far. I really never see glare or notice it unless I am in a high contrast environment, where on my Index I see glare almost constantly so the Quest 3 is great, really.

  • @sezaiturkmen9561
    @sezaiturkmen9561 7 месяцев назад

    The glare issue is a deal breaker for me. However I certainly hear you. I have already tried 3 headsets and each of them have different level of glare. the first one has almost none but head dead pixels so I returned it. the second one was a disaster. Way too much fan noise, stutters and mura and huge glare. the 3rd one has no dead pixel, some glare not noticeable if you play sims like DCS but still not ok for me when watching RUclips...

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  7 месяцев назад

      That's incredibly unfortunate. After hearing about so many issues and inconsistencies regarding the Quest 3 lenses and displays, I feel like I lucked out - even though I still have a couple dead pixels, I never see them unless I'm actually trying to find them, and the rest of the optics are great for me.

    Mnhh....the strap plastic could be solved by cutting off a piece of adhesive backed foam used for insulating windows and doors I think. Just put that on, or glue a small piece of any nice foam on with superglue and it would be softer.

    1h 9' for a 1st Impressions Review 😵‍💫😵‍💫😱😱. You will have to publish the complete review by seasons, like GoT 🤣🤣. Jokes aside, amazing review.
    Some few questions:
    1) Can you use them as PCVR without a meta account?
    2) related to the Airlink => Not having a WiFi6 router, can I connect the Quest 3 directly to the PC - which does have an idle WiFi6 NIC? (the PC is connected to the router via Ethernet)
    3) How long does the battery last when used as PCVR via Airlink? my guess is that a little more than when used as a stand-alone VR headset, but a precise answer would be highly appreciated.

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад +2

      Haha there's a ton to talk about, and I am not someone to leave out details, obviously 😅
      1. I'm pretty sure you need an account of some sort to just run the headset itself, so yes I believe so.
      2. You can still use a non-Wifi-6 router with AirLink, the performance just won't be the same though and you may want to use a link cable to use PCVR if that's the case.
      3. I haven't tested this, but I'd imagine the battery life will be similar to mobile game time, which is around 2 hours.

    Good review! From what I understand there is no IR used in tracking. This is one of the key hidden features, go try it outside. No more tracking interference from sunlight. Just don't expose the inside lenses to the sun, that can still burn the displays.

    The first few seconds of the "Comfort" section are describing my inner feelings perfectly when I think about the standard head strap. I think Meta should have bitten the cost bullet and offer a better solution out-of-the-box. While not being the main reason, I'm fairly sure that the bad default comfort also contributes to the low retention rate of Quest headsets and often gathering dust few weeks/months after purchase.

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад

    My right trigger is squeeky too. The haze you mentioned might come from slightly smudged lenses? The sweet spot being better when the headset is higher, i have too - but for me its not less sharp, instead i see chromatic abberation (blue/yellow lines at the edges of things)

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад

      Aww that's unfortunate. I'm still debating whether I want to return my squeaky controller or not.
      The haze effect wasn't due to smudges on the lenses, and I've cleaned them several times now during my use. I think it's the glare effect but the glare is so subtle that it's not really perceived in a way where you can pinpoint the issue, which would make sense. It's really a non-issue, but something I wanted to mention to see if anyone else notices it, and to see how I feel about it when I do another review when I'm out of the honeymoon phase and I'm more used to the Quest 3.
      Ah yes, there is some chromatic aberration which I failed to mention. I must've skipped over it because I had it written down to talk about. At the very edges of the displays you'll notice this mainly with things like icons and text, but it's not perceived when actively playing games because you're almost never looking at the far edges of your displays. A non-issue, but definitely worth mentioning, thanks for pointing that out!

I have the 2nd gen pros and the noise cancelation on them is amazing for a more immersion into whatever you’re doing but I just wanted to say thankyou for a great video about the quest 3 and you seemed abit nervous or in a hurry to say everything on your mind in a short time but I think you did great 🙌🏼 and was very Informative I will make my first VR headset a quest 3 after watching your video and I liked shared and subscribed to your channel 🤘🏼

      I'm so glad I could help answer some of your questions with this video. I agree that a SD slot would be very useful for these headsets, but then no one would buy the larger storage option HMD, so it makes sense as to why they don't offer a SD expansion slot. The Quest 3 does not support Bluetooth headphone connectivity, unfortunately. I definitely felt slightly rushed to get my thoughts out because this video can easily be twice as long if I didn't stop myself 😅 Thank you for your support! 💜

    I'm mostly worried about all the reports of defective screens (mostly dead/stuck pixels) and terrible microphone quality from under the charging contact points (crackling, hissing, breathing noise, popping).
    Passthrough not being as good as the recordings show, fan noise, heat and the requirement for replacement battery straps and facial interfaces aren't insurmountable issues for me, although the extra costs and hassle out of the box are annoying. Edit: the mics aren't behind the charging contacts, they are behind the cooling slot under the cameras.

      To be fair, there are QC issues with virtually every mass produced piece of hardware, this is nothing new. The Quest 2 had its own issues, so does the Valve Index, etc.. Some products have more issues than others, and unfortunately, it seems that the Quest 3 has more QC issues than usual. Fortunately, we can return these items for a replacement. It's tedious and annoying though, I agree. Hopefully they tighten up their QC and resolve the issues for future buyers.

      There have been some wild QC issues it seems with the Quest 3, and I've read reports of different camera sensors used in the Quest 3, some apparently better than others. I can't confirm this, but based on the differences we see, it seems likely.

    This plastic things on the back - i think they did that to make it easier to adjust, on quest 2 its not very easy to do so

      Oh I fully understand what those plastic pieces are for on the head strap, no need to explain to me. The issue here is that they could have designed them a million different ways to be more comfortable, but they chose a THICK plastic piece that penetrates your skull. They knew exactly what they were doing when designing this head strap this way. This isn't their first rodeo, and they have upselling to do 😂

      The Quest 3 IPD dial goes to 70 but the maximum supported IPD range is up to 75 is what their website says, so you should be fine at 73 IPD, you just need to max out the IPD dial. You can always return it if it doesn't fit you well.

    Good review. However Passthrough is terrible! A gimmick only useful to take a drink or pick up a phone, etc, but not to interact with utter. Recorded, it displays beautifully but third completely misleading. So when you say you can read your phone, see you getting great clarity?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  8 месяцев назад

      There have been discussions about the Quest 3 having various QC issues which extend to the cameras used for passthrough. Perhaps I can read my phone just fine if the lighting is right. If your screen is a white blob, turn down the brightness on your phone, or turn on a light in your room. It's a tiny camera, so the dynamic range is going to be limited.
      I personally enjoy passthrough and MR, but I also don't feel sick from the wobbles, and maybe I have a better headset that's more clear, who knows 🤷
      Thanks for stopping by! 💜👊

    On the site HMD geometry database, it says that both Q1 and Q2 have 104 horizontal FOV. Quest 3 only 4 degrees more, 108. Vertical FOV on both Q2 and Q3 it says 98. For Q1 it says 100 degrees. So pretty much identical FOV on all three headsets. Are your eyes further from the lenses when you wear Quest 2? Causing smaller perceived FOV? You could remove facial interface on both Q2 and Q3, and compare that way. It would be more accurate, as you would be as close as possible to the lenses on both headsets

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад +2

      Quest 3 is actually said to have 110 degrees FOV which is listed on their website, and this was confirmed with my own testing using WIMFOV where I measured at 110 degrees horizontal FOV as well seen in the video @16:45. Yes, the Quest 2 can have better FOV if you replaced the facial interface with something smaller, but I am doing my testing with what the far majority of users will be using, which is the facial interface that comes with the Quest 2. With that in mind, my Quest 2 measured FOV was around 96 degrees. Can you get better FOV on the Quest 2? Sure, but I didn't.
      I also keep my data consistent. I am using the same WIMFOV tool for testing across all HMD's, and as far as I know my face shape never changes, so my data is consistent for my face shape. The Quest 3 is a pretty significant improvement no matter how you look at it I think, especially considering 100% of that FOV is usable now, where the Quest 2 had quite blurry edges.

    So you got to use a microscope to see the screen door?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад

      Mmm... I wouldn't say that because I certainly didn't use a microscope, and I saw it. You just need the right environment. Flight sims, or games which have a clear bright blue sky you'll notice the SDE if you look directly at the sky. Otherwise, it's not really noticed because the texture in environments create enough of a variance in pixels that you don't really see it. With the Quest 2 I see the SDE right away, with the Quest 3 I have to try to find it. That being said, when my eyes are scanning around and I am immersed in a game, I will not ever notice the SDE.

    Is it just me or does the audio sound weird. It feels like its in front of me and not on my head

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  10 месяцев назад

      I mean, the audio is coming from in front of your ears when wearing the headset, so this makes sense. I personally never noticed this kind of effect though. For me it sounds like I am immersed and I don't notice any location issues regarding audio. But maybe I'm not able to perceive it either, so I'm not sure. I guess if it bothers you you can plug in your own headphones.

      Thanks for viewing. I am pointing out things that are heavily discussed in the VR realm, and SDE is one of them. SDE is something people care about, so I wanted to talk about it in as much detail as I can to try and articulate what I am seeing with my eyes to the viewer. If you don't want that kind of detail, then this video isn't for you, and there are many others out there that may be more suitable for you. I am not "whining" about anything, but you're entitled to your own opinion. I am simply discussing issues, potential issues, and non-issues. Thanks again for stopping by, but your comment was unpleasant and not really helpful in any way, so you really just put me down for the sake of putting me down, not cool.
