Will PCVR drain the battery less? Because you can't use the battery strap while using Oculus link.

Quick tip, adding a metric measurement in addition to imperial, to the video, is a benefit to the majority of the world that doesn't use imperial units. Fwiw, even in the US, if I go to look at frames their size is listed in millimeters.

I love the honesty and expectations that come with your reviews. I hate and love the doubt tap future. It’s nice to talk to people and see them, but when I would move the headstrap it would turn on and if I put my bobo battery it will always go into pass through. Appreciate the long “review” can’t wait to see more!
For people who think about laser sight correction. Consider ReLEx SMILE instead of LASIK. It's much less invasive and keeps your sclera much more solid.
FYI all the cuts made in sclera aren't healed with time because it's not living tissue, so when you do LASIK whole this circular cut will be with you till the end of your life weakening your sclera's structural strength and the only thing that will keep the flap at your eye is a thin film of epitelium that covers your eyeball. And also the cut crosses a lot of nerves of your iris and many of them won't recover that leads to some level of innervation of the eye that may lead to some long lasting problems.
At the same time during ReLEx SMILE just 4mm cut is performed in your sclera so it's left mostly intact and you have much-much less structural/neural damage of your eye.
my friend had one, and I got a lasik. Definitely should have gotten Relex Smile. May I ask if its possible to have relex smile after having lasik?
@@sleepdeprived9181, as far as I know - no. But better to consult with ophthalmologist. And it's actually useless to do ReLEx SMILE after LASIK because the damage has already been done.
Opposite (LASIK over ReLEx SMILE) is possible if sclera is thick enough. As well as LASIK over LASIK.
Great review, Jay! Looking forward to my Quest 3 coming. Im a little nervous about the "uh ohs" (the battery life, the microphone, etc) but I'm sure with you leading the way we will get wonderful solutions to any of these concerns. Really looking forward to the stadiums and gameplay in PRO ERA 2 on the Quest 3. Also ordered lenses from Reloptix for the Quest 3, but will use my glasses until they come--thanks for the glasses demonstration! Really looking forward to BOBOVR making a Quest 3 halo battery strap (keeping the one I got on the Quest 2) to feel comfortable and increasing the battery life. Once again, great job Jay.....as always will look forward to your reviews so you can make this new Quest 3 experience a great one!!!!

Great breakdown. I appreciate the stance you are taking with presenting this as a preview and not a full review, while still presenting a ton of info for us to consider now. It just feels too soon for "final" reviews IMO, knowing roughly how much time people have really had with this. I'm sure your final review will bring along some new / updated insights. I'm happy to hear how critical you are of certain aspects despite all the notable improvements, as it shows your attention to detail and consideration of the value on the table. Stuff like the microphone quality, headphone issues, and glasses comfort are great to know. As a current Quest 2 owner that exclusively uses it for PC VR via Virtual Desktop, I can't help but remain a little skeptical on the true value of the upgrade for my setup. Overall though the Quest 3 is looking pretty cool, and I am eager to see how it shapes up after more updates... so far I think I'll stick to waiting for other PC VR headset options (c'mon Valve!).
I appreciate all the kind words and I fully agree. It's early and we also have a lot this headset can unlock in a few updates. For PCVR it won't have quite as many benefits as standalone but I do think the overall balance and clarity will be nice for you, especially if the price drops some later!

Hey Jay, love watching for your Quest 3 info & updates. You are bringing it like no one else. I'm seeing the first of the replacement facial interfaces now available on Amazon by 2 sellers MVIIOE and KangYu. They appear to be the same design, but hard to tell if this design get us closer to the lens than the stock adapter. But it does feature removable face pad so that's a plus.
Great review. I essentially can do nothing but agree after using it myself for 2 days.
The biggest difference between Q2 and Q3 for me are the lenses. It's insane how much those lenses improve the visual experience. Sweet spot is huge and you can look around and even on the sides its just darker, not this really bad effect that took place at the sides of Q2 lenses. Increased FOV is noticeable - in the middle there is no more binoculars effect, and on the sides the borders are further away.
Another thing is that the device sits suprisingly well on my face, I dont have to move it around constantly like the Quest 2. The built in strap is suprisingly decent for me. But gonna probably upgrade to Bobo (retrofit the M2) at some point because of the battery thing.
Controllers feel lighter and the tracking works really well.
And what's worth mentioning is that the software is really polished for a day 1 after release. I had not stumble upon any issue, be it sound, video or a bug.
I am very happy with the purchase. I can recommend it to anyone who seeks an upgrade from Q2 (or a new headset).

glad to hear your opionions and stuff on the headset, i preordered my quest 3 and its gonna be an upgrade from my first vr headset the lenovo explorer, you main gripes with stuff like the mic and battery life i feel wont exactly impact me as much, as i have a full audio setup to attach to my headset including a nice sennheiser LAV mic which is gonna be stuck on the headset along with some IEMs so i never need to fiddle with headphones and whatever, and im gonna be primarily using the headset through link cable in PCVR using a USB C to C link cable from Ugreen which im hoping gives enough power to keep me playing for 3 hours atleast, and if for whatever reason it doesnt i'll probably upgrade to one of those upgraded link cables that plugs into ur pc and has a seperate usb-c port on the cable for seperated charging which seemingly lets you play for hours and hours without needing to take it off to charge or whatever

Good you mentioned the golf and table tennis current accessories possible issue with controllers tracking. Maybe we need to wait 1-2 months for a workaround solution

i am even more excited for mine to come in now! I expected the lesser battery life and ordered a set of those zinny script lenses they had on metas site. 50 bucks isnt bad at all. I paid SIGNIFICANTLY more than that for my quest 2 ones. I did get the elite strap as well so We shall see how that works comparatively. Big time hyped though and wish it would ship already.

I'm hoping to get Q3, been using Q2 since launch, and love it, except FOV. I'm a little worried about being disappointed still on that. I also feel that 2500 x 2500 per eye should be the base resolution by now, but I'm hearing solid things anyway and I doubt I'll regret that point.
Bad news on battery life, but I mostly use wireless headphones and play PC VR with my Q2, which helps eliminate battery usage on the audio.
Also, I am disappointed to hear the issue of tracking with golf. My 2nd favorite game, just below Contractors is Walkabout. Luckily, I don't use the golf stick, so I should be fine.
At $500, 2500 x 2500 might have been possible... But could the headset run anything at that resolution for more than 15 minutes? We get some trade-offs due to this being primarily a stand-alone headset.
Great hands-on - best one I've watched so far today. Can't wait until tomorrow and finally decide whether I can sell my Pro controllers or not! Also I hope the blacks aren't too 'grey' as I have really got used to local dimming on the Pro. Excited for tomorrow and can at last decide which headset is a keeper... Quest 3 or the Pro?! :)
I hear you! The Quest Pro has a lot of great things about it including the controllers. Just not the price. I had my controllers start giving me issues over time though so I'm cautious. If I had to pick today I'd take the 3 hands down but I'll be interested to hear your thoughts after you try it.
Thanks for trying to the claw grip on the Quest 3 controllers for all us Beat Saber addicts out there! Too bad it doesn't work anymore but at least the tracking is better than the Quest 2. I imagine the Quest 3 controllers are also lighter than Quest 2 due to the lack of tracking rings - so going back to default grip might not be too painful. Most top players use default grip on Quest 2 already anyways.
Really glad the Beat Saber tracking is good. That was the biggest fear I had without the tracking rings. Hopefully some of the more involved custom songs will be much smoother.
Don't take offense to this but it still baffles me that beatsaber is still as big as it is. Like that's the only thing some people play in VR. I played it for a few weeks when I first got my headset but after that I think I've played it maybe twice.

Well the base Beat Saber game is kinda lackluster. There are a lot of really good custom songs, but the built in songs are pretty crap by comparison. The community has a much better idea of what makes a track feel awesome to play than the developers do, and it's not the difficulty (though of course, many of them do get really, REALLY hard in comparison to the default tracks). The base game becomes downright boring after you've played some actually good tracks.
Finally set up modded for my wife and the tracking on the quest 2 is completely unusable for us
Love your video format and quality! Great review. Just got my Quest 3 coming from a Rift S, and I'm blown away. My only issue would be the strap puts too much pressure on my forehead, giving me a headache overtime. I use a long USB C cable and a battery bank in my pocket for longer sessions haha.
Hey thank you so much! Yeah the Quest 3 strap has the same comfort issues Quests have been dealing with for years. Luckily there's lot of third party accessory options coming to fix that. I'm currently rocking the BoboVR M3 Pro which is a repurposed Quest 2 strap. 😂 well you could get a few Q3s for the price of LASIK but honestly I got really lucky... Nat got a good right after maxing out her flex spending account so we had to use it or lose it in a single month. A LASIK place was able to fit us in so we just used the flex spendings from her old and new job and in essence didn't really feel like we even paid for it 😲
Great you are mentioning your concerns about the quality about lenses and screens in Minute 8:10. More YTubers should have more focus on these kind of problems...so Meta gets their Quality Control in the right direction. Keep it up.

nice review, sadly still too expensive for countries like mine (uruguay) but it's going in the right path I think. In the other hand quest 2 may lower even more in the used deparment so it could be great for places like here where no so many people had the chance to use one because of the price tag.

Hey Jay, can you do a video or try and explain how you got the bo Bobovr battery pack on the meta quest 3 strap?
I see a run on the 90 degree pitched golf club adapters in the very near future. I would imagine those will work. Thanks for specifically trying it with a golf club. There's a lot of folks that have been wondering about just that. I was a bit confused when you said you'd have to use the controller only to play Walkabout since using the controller only still has the LEDs facing away from the cameras. Does that actually work?

Totally agree on the headphones. My Bose 700 NC headphones sound great with wired connection, but the volume even at max setting can't give a theater type experience. The built in audio is pretty good though.
Speaking from someone who spent lots of time with an uncomfortable helmet and night vision goggles (NODs for my military brethren) the occasional use of the skull crusher (if you know you know) the stock strap is super comfortable.

Hello, Very nice review. I have the quest pro. Is the quest 3 an upgrade? I have the box in my hands but don't know to keep it or send it back.
MR games are where VR games where at the start. Even though this is Quest 3 and even though there've been plenty of decent-to-good VR headsets, it's all still technically in a toddler stage of development so to say ;p Love it though. It's quite fascinating to see all the experimentation, the fails, the wins. And eventually, someone, somehow, will break the code and make a device that dwarfs the success the Quest series had and has.
I think MR is going to be really good with Vermillion. (It's an art app), and Synth Riders. I should have mine 10 days from now. (I'm literally counting down the days), but I'm hoping I can get a retrofit kit from Bobo ordered prior to that, although they are't on the UK Amazon yet!

You will! A few things might bother you over time but that first moment you see the color Passthrough, the screen clarity, how thin the headset is, you're gonna have a great time!
Does the Charging LINK Cable still work with this? I have a link cable that you plug into power outlet and it gives power to your quest so you can play as long as you want when PC vr.

I use it all the time and it even works with controllers
one worry i have about the controllers is the joy sticks because it has no ring to cover them on the cv1 i threw my controllers while playing beatsaber and the joy sticks and the stem on the joy stick snaped off so that may be a concern and i would keep wrist straps on at all times even with knuckle grips
Will the soundcore Vr ear buds and dongle still work with the Quest 3?
For the hand tracking, when you tap the screen can you press buttons with other fingers other than the index finger on quest 3?

Been looking for an upgrade for a while now and the quest 3 looked very promising. Still going to watch for a little while to see how things go in terms of updates and patches, though one thing that *really* bugs me is that the robot mic bug is back. I'm upgrading from a rift s lol, was kinda hoping I'd be able to leave that issue behind.
Doing the same thing. Although the mic is a non issue for me as I’m using my pc’s mic on discord etc. Hope no major issue will pop up cause I’m really considering buying it

Im wondering about how it will perform on VRC. I often have moments where it has little hiccups and occasional crashing. Not to mention that some content is restricted to PC only. I have also seen it happen on other games as well like Zenith.
Odd question, would a piece of fabric tape acting as a makeshift "pop filter" help improve the mic popping issues? I feel like if it's experiencing popping and breath issues then it's placed poorly and software updates would only be able to fix so much.
About the fogging, I saw in one video that there is actually a hole inside on the side for defogging the lenses... maybe you haven't seen it yet? Maybe it is under the facemask? That distortion of passthrough can be altered with software updates. I remember that from the Pico4, it was very distorted in the beginning and later it was as good as gone.

I can't find the section of the video again but I thought I heard you say that the battery dock you have attached to the stock Quest 3 headstrap is discontinued. Did I hear that right? What was it called? Can you still find it like on Ebay or third party websites? I think its a genius idea until the M3's or Retro kit come back in stock. Thanks!
Btw you where talking about the touch feature on the menu, it has already been a thing for almost a year since hand tracking came out on the quest2 it was just a setting, you could switch from theatre to touch.
mine actually came tusday but it was by ups, didn't think to leave a note on the door telling them to leave it without signature, worst part is to change dilvery options you must be mailed a activation code, (also vage laggy setup) you read right mailed. meaning you'll sign the we missed and get the package way before it even shows up meaning you no longer need it
I noticed the way you held the golf grip the face of the controller was facing left to the side. Why not hold it so the face of the controller is center to you and facing out instead of to the side so maybe it can be tracked easier. I’m not sure it will help but just a suggestion.
Is the elite strap with battery better than just the elite strap? Does the extra weight of the battery help balance the headset better making it more comfortable? Can't find anyone talking about it
can i still use my bluetooth anc head phones as cant seem to find info about bluetooth on meta 3 like q2
I'm curious if the quest 2 controllers can pair with the quest 3.. I have some controller accessories that use the ring and it would be dope if I could use then when needed
An IR emitter doesn't work anymore for night vision with the quest 3? even in a pitch black room?

I just have a few questions that i would like to hear your oppinion on.
1. Do you think i should i buy a Bobovr m3 plus or an official elite battery strap for the meta quest 3, or maybe even an elite strap with bobo twin batteries on? Im just worried about the stability on the bobo and the comfort and quality with the elite strap.
2. Does the extra weight of a battery pack on an elite strap make the headset wobble more?
3. How does the charging work with the elite battery strap when using a charging dock, and is there even a point in using a charging dock if you use a twin mag bobovr m3?
4. Is it possible to have both the quest 2 and quest 3 logged in to the same meta account and then play on them both at the same time, if i want to play gorilla tag with a friend for example?
5. Will the official elite strap or bobovr m3 fit in the official quest 3 case?
6. Is the stock facial interface sweat absorbant like the quest 2 one?

I play a lot of Pavlov a lot so I think I’ll upgrade when Dave gives native quest 3 support for 90hz so I’ll hold onto my release date quest 2 (tbh I think the quest 2 era was very important for vr development.)
