      What you're saying is actually true. In Highway Engineering (where this particular topic does come up as it should) our class learned that's why the drunks more often than not come out ok because since they're so doped they are more malleable in a crash.

    My mom worked in a brewery before I was born. She told me when guys were too drunk to drive she did this test to see if they were aware of what going on. The test was she took their car keys and made them recite the alphabet to the 11th letter, K (My mom's name was that) and you would be surprised on how many people couldn't figure the 11th letter. They would keep saying "the 11th letter is J!! Right!?" and she would say "No that's not it"

    I know somebody that lost family members due to a drunk driver. The impact was so severe that both cars caught on fire. Nobody survived including the drunk driver. When you make that choice to get into your car and drive while intoxicated you have no idea what might happen. Maybe you will get home safely, maybe you won't get pulled over. But what if you don't get so lucky? Too many lives are lost. Call a cab or a trusted friend to come get you. Life is way too precious.

    I was hit by a drunk driver when my mother was driving me home from work. The woman who hit us never said sorry at all to us. As a result, my mom’s back is messed up forever and my back is sprained as well. It’s been 11 years and that day never leaves my mind. I just remember the police yanking this woman out of her car and throwing her down to the ground because she was drunk and resisting. I also remember the officer telling my mom and I that the other driver was under arrest for DWI. My mom just started crying and I was so stunned that I couldn’t speak. We had to sue this woman for the damages caused to us and to this day, she’s still allowed to drive. It angers me to no end because this wasn’t her first offense and she could do it again.

      Today head on collisions aren't nearly as often deadly as they were in 1992 when this happened. Airbags and stronger structures, as well as much higher seat belt use rates have helped a lot. But head on collisions still kill a lot of people when they occur at highway speeds or when one vehicle is much smaller than the other.

      Hammerhead547 actually murder is when you make a decision to kill someone and you plan it out. A drunk person does not say "I'm gonna go kill someone today." Driving drunk is the decision they made and they choice they made. Killing someone because of that is a sad consequence to that choice. I don't think people should drive drunk but if they do decide to do that and end up killing someone that's not murder.

    As much as he destroyed one life and permanently crippled another, he did have courage to partially narrate this and admit all responsibility for it when most usually would never do that. Nice classic 1978 or 1979 Ford used here (I had one and it weighed 4800 pounds so the small pickup was no match when they hit) It appears the engine in the small truck was torn off it's motor mounts and was driven right into the cab of the small truck.
    Unfortunately, 11,000 were killed by drunk drivers (the most recent stats are from 2020) last year. The scene at 6:20 is so chilling. You're alive on a nice night and then you're not and this was entirely preventable.

I think that when someone lives long enough to get gray hair they should have gained some wisdom. I can understand this lady's anger with this man. It sounds like the man who caused this collision didn't learn from his mistakes since he had 4 prior convictions. I think that the state did the right thing permanently revoking this man's license. What bugs me about this is that drunk driving can be completely eliminated. In some places people who have reapet DUI convinctions have a system installed in their car by court order. I have no clue what this system is called but it is a breathalizer that is wired into the car's ignition system. Before you are able to drive, you have the blow through the breathalizer, if you have had any alcoholic beverage, the system prevents the car from starting so you cannot drive it. If thses systems were standard in all cars, drunk driving would be eliminated, problem is as usual is money, Car companies will not put the money into installing these systems in their cars so people die needlessly. when they do not need to.

    • @chrisgast
      @chrisgast 7 лет назад +2

      That's likely because they care more about the green than their customers. Not only that, but not every one drinks and drives. Installing it in car of a person who doesn't drink and drive is a pain in the ass and they would prefer the customer be happy.

    • @Crrrow
      @Crrrow 6 лет назад

      You sound like a sappy, emotional, impractical twat. I don't drink, much less drive drunk, why the hell should I have to blow in a fucking tube to start my car? Or keep it running for that matter? It's not the 'greedy car companies', it's people not wanting to have their car shut off every 5 miles to retest. Imagine getting attacked and you try to make a get away but the car won't start till you blow in a tube, meanwhile you get shot through the window. Or maybe you're out camping in an isolated area, had a couple brews with the boys, only for someone to have a cardiac arrest. His only hope is to get him closer so a real ambulance can take him, but the car won't start because it detects alcohol. So he dies waiting on ambulance that couldn't get there.

    I have to say that I lost my Wife and kids to a drunk driver on December 27, 1998, this hits home with me! It took me 20 years for me to forgive the person who took Amy Ryan Rachel and the baby that Amy was pregnant with! Since that day I have vowed NEVER to drink alcohol again. Am I angry at this person ABSOLUTELY but does it make me a better person to forgive him for his transgression YES! Oh, and I do have to say that he will never leave prison alive!

    That man who drank and drove took a life and harmed a woman seriously! He should have been sentenced with life in prison. If I was the lady who was hurt from the accident I wouldn't have forgiven him! That lady is a true saint.

    drunk driving is stupid the risks are worse than anything also the first has a debatable point seatbelts are going to help you I have friends who had friends that were both saved and killed by seatbelts it's a 50/50 chance

    Obviously the driver is at fault but David and Patricia also should’ve been wearing their seatbelts.

    15 years later after this incident Patricia passed away on November 2nd 2008. She was 50 years old. I do not know how she passed away, but I have a feeling it was because of the injuries she sustained in the accident. Also her husband David passed away a few years before she passed away.

      And even less so 3 decades ago. Ironically in 2022 we still have 3 or 4 states left ware DUI is little more then a speeding ticket the 1st time

    I can imagine what the judge said to Paul during the trial. "Paul Prader, you have been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Do you know the misery and sadness you've caused. Not only will Patricia Johnson be disabled for the rest of her life Patricia's family will never overcome this tragedy. The loss of a loved one, you should have thought of that before you drove drunk".
