I am so glad I found this video. I bought five yards of flannel instead of fleece to make a tie blanket. I am going to use this pattern instead. Thank you so much. I can sew in straight lines and that's about all. :) Hence the tie blanket
I need an all cotton not-too-heavy blanket for my side of our king size bed, this is just the thing! Traditional quilts and synthetics like fleece are way too hot for me.
@@HeatherHandmade The question wasn't about sherpa, but about fleece which is flat and thinner. Could that be sewn with flannel the same way as the flannel-flannel method?
I shared the post because you can use that method to make a fleece and flannel blanket. The sherpa is a form of fleece and will sew better than way then the flannel and flannel method.
@@HeatherHandmade Yes, I understand sherpa is a kind of fleece, but can the above method be used for conventional fleece to flannel? Will it present any problems compared to doing flannel-flannel? Thanks.
You can try it but fleece stretches and flannel does not. The problem would be making sure the fleece doesn't stretch as you sew. It's possible, but you have to be really careful with a stretchy and non stretchy fabric.
Very pretty. I use the Super Snuggle novelty fabric from JoAnne’s to make these for animal shelters/ non- profits in our area. Can you tell me how long this blanket lasted? I am always curious as to how long the flannel lasts after several washes in hot water. I hope a while. I usually do 3- 5 lines through the center because half I make with cotton batting so they are more like a mat. I’m going to try one seam down the middle for those without it. Thank you!
The Super Snuggle has been on sale for $2.99 a yard so I’ll be able to send several blankets and mats this season. Forgot my next question. Sorry! I’ll be back if I think of it.

I'm so glad you found this!
Luv it
Hi! This was exactly what I was looking for. Quick question. Why the stitch down the center? Just curious. Learning.
It's just to keep the fabric from separating as it's being used and when it's washed
@@HeatherHandmade okay thanks. Well I followed your video and made a blanket for my son. It came out really cute
Can I braid edges with flannel???
Do you wash flannel before making blanket? Thank you
Yes I do!
I like this, i Will try at home, thank you
Most welcome 😊
How do you sew right over the pins? I'm confused by this. I always pull pins out before I get to them.
you are supposed to pull pins out before you sew them! I have a bad habit of not pulling them out.
Do you wash your flannel before making this quilt?
yes, i recommend washing the flannel fabric before sewing
Heather, how many yards of flannel was used for each panel? Was it 2 yards total or 2 yards for each color?
I made a throw size and did 2 yards for each color
Could I add batting to the middle?
Yes but you would need to do quilting or tying to keep the batting from bunching up
Would this work with flannel and fleece?
yes, but you can do something like this instead too (which is flannel and fleece) www.heatherhandmade.com/diy-flannel-sherpa-blanket/

How big is the blanket, I mean the size?
This depends on the fabric but it'll be between 45 and 52 inches wide and 72 inches long. This is a throw size blanket.
