Love these types of tutorials. I have made several of these blankets, using cotton and fleece. Replacing the cotton fabric with minky is a great idea! I do add another step though. After I complete the blanket and top stitch around the outside, I top stitch an X from corner to corner to hold the middle fabric of the blanket together. It really helps to keep the fabrics together after washing. I learned this from experience!
This is going to sound crazy, but I have found that if you "pin" your fabrics together with Bobby pins, not only does it keep your two fabrics more secure, but you can slide the Bobby pin as you continue to sew keeping your fabrics flat. I feel with pins that they don't hold the fabrics together very well, and found that Bobby pins do. Plus, you don't get poked by the pins 😊. I highly recommend trying it 😃👍!
Thanks Cindy . What a good idea, I've never thought of sewing flannel and fleece together for a cuddly rug. It will be light but cosy. Its now on my to do list for next lot of gifts for new bubs.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
new to sewing! and cloths! went to the fabric store first time today😅 and got an idea to make a 2yr babygirl a blanket! so fleece is what they are calling minky??
I have a question, should you use a stretch or regular sharps needle in the machine when sewing minky and flannel together? Do you also use a walking foot?
The shirt you have on, I love it! Did you sew that? If you did, would you consider doing a tutorial on the shirt/selves /elastic and where to find your fabric similar? So hard to find cute shirts that don't cling. Gap had a similar pattern and color but it's too small now. Thanks! baby blanket is sweet!
I've got a blanket my MIL made for my daughter thats minky on the back and it's been washed several times bc it's her favorite. I haven't had issues with it and she loves the softness
Hi! Great idea. I have a couple of questions. *What machine needle do you recommend? *How do you cut straight lines on squiggly fabric? I seem to have a hard time doing so.
Hi there, we are using a regular quilting needle here. For cutting straight lines, the best thing you can do is take it slow. Your lines probably won't be perfectly straight, but if you cut the flannel at the same time you cut the minky, you'll find there is added stability and they will be more likely to end up the same size.
I am new at this, i bought two flannels, print and solid. I never used minky. didn't know about it ,, I hope i will be ok with two flannels. i plan a ribbon binding. Your tutorial was very simple , just the way i like it.. Is 36x36 standard. thank you.
Hi Lily, the Minky will NOT shed after you have sewn the blanket. It only sheds when it is freshly cut and the raw edges are exposed. You can wash it as often as needed after it has been sewn.

Good idea. I am going to attempt to make one but wanted to put a thin batten inside...
I don’t have any minky. So can I use cotton, batting in between and then flannel on back?
@@Sophie_kent Yes, that would work. Just be sure to sew an X from corner to corner to keep all the fabrics together.

Thanks for that tip. I’m sick of getting stabbed with pins. 🌼
😅😮
Running a basting stitch just inside the seam allowance on the minky will greatly reduce the stretching.
Thanks, that’s an awesome idea.
Thank you so much for the great tip!
I'm not sure why I can't understand what you mean... I'm interested though, if you could please explain it.
I think what she means before you sew the pieces together sew a basting stitch around the minky inside the seam allowance.
I also use my walking foot when sewing with this type of fabric to control stretch and uneven feeding under the needle.
Loved the tutorial and your music choice even better. Blessings.
What a cute idea! Love this! 💛🌻💛
very nicely done, thank you for all the tidbits of info.
Thank you, finally a tutorial that says easy and is actually easy!!
I'm actually going to make this one now. You definitely make it sound so easy. Simplified. Thankyou.

Kinky is actually a brand name for a very soft fleece. It comes like the one she was using, or more commonly it has little bumps all over it. 6:16
Cindy, Thank you
Very beautiful baby blanket, good job, thanks for sharing it my friend 👍🌸💐
I have a question, should you use a stretch or regular sharps needle in the machine when sewing minky and flannel together? Do you also use a walking foot?
Love it!!!!! I finally splurged and got a Oliso iron. Purple through because the pink is $249 plus taxes and the purple was$196 plus taxes!!!!!
Do you sew the fabrics together so they keep shape when washed?

What about using wonder clips!
I love the baby blanket and would like to make one, but if the minky sheds is it suitable for a new baby. Thanks.

@@christinacrowell4715 thank you for letting me know, I cant wait to make one now, I might wash it first though, thanks.
Wash them both before you cut...flannel shrinks a lot!..
Hi! Great idea. I have a couple of questions.
*What machine needle do you recommend?
*How do you cut straight lines on squiggly fabric?
I seem to have a hard time doing so.
Hi there, we are using a regular quilting needle here. For cutting straight lines, the best thing you can do is take it slow. If I hand sew the opening closed, is it necessary to top stitch around the entire blanket?
Can you do minky for front and back? And if so, how does that complicate things?
I am new at this, i bought two flannels, print and solid. I never used minky. didn't know about it ,, I hope i will be ok with two flannels. i plan a ribbon binding. Your tutorial was very simple , just the way i like it.. Is 36x36 standard. thank you.
Two flannels will be fantastic! And yes, 36"x36" is pretty standard.
Instead of all that pinning, have you tried 1/4" tape (like we use for zippers and bags)?
Kathy DeRouchey I wonder if that would work. I was thinking the same thing.
Thanks for this tutorial. Would a light cotton fabric also work with a Minky backing?
I love it.
What do they sell for
Thank you!
If the minky sheds, will it not go all over the flannel when the blanket gets washed?
Hi Lily, the Minky will NOT shed after you have sewn the blanket. It only sheds when it is freshly cut and the raw edges are exposed. You can wash it as often as needed after it has been sewn.
When you wash it after sewing will it bubble up? Do you need to tie or sew the center of the blanket?
I do sew an X from corner to corner after I finish making the blanket. It helps keeping the middle of the blanket together.
Thank you
very good tutorial!
If the minky fabric sheds so much why not pre-wash it? And does it continue to shed with every wash? I haven't used it so I don't know.
Hi Charlene, the only shedding that happens is when you cut it. Once it is sewn into a quilt or project, there won't be any shedding.
@@RileyBlakeDesigns awesome thanks for telling me. I'll look into getting some.
Hi, if you baste it before washing, will that help with shedding?
Thank you very much! 🌸🌸
What is the size of the blanket?
Nice, but you don't need the music.
Is this a straight stitch or zigzag?
I like to top stitch. Then make a second stitch. Ann
A great tutorial ❤
So measurements are 36 on all 4 sides?
Can I sew this with a serger?
Love ❤️
Is Minky flameproof?
What is minkee
Minky is a super soft, plush material often used for baby blankets.
How much these blanket we need soft baby blankets pls do favour mam
Made in ?
Thank you!!
Nyc what is size
36" square
@@RileyBlakeDesigns thanks
If you don’t quilt it, it will separate in the wash and make a mess…..ask me how I know….
❤️❤️❤️
Would be easier to baste instead of pinning
Нужно простягать одеяло
anyone interested in anti radiation baby blankets?
