I have made a few of the self binding receiving blankets, now I watched a person (female) that uses the same technique as you do. But she just zips along and I have stop and rewind numerous times before it gets processed. I am going to say this because I think you deserve to get all the credit. You one explain it really well and your video on the step by step instructions is very good along with your camera being right there showing each step as you go. You sir are my new hero. This is great and I plan to watch more of your videos keep on sewing. I just took up sewing in the last couple of months so I am an extreme novice. But you give me hope that I can and will be successful.
I had the same experience, watching a lady who just zipped along and the camera was at an angle that I could not see properly. This video is so much better. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
Not fair to criticize another person who made a fine video to help others. She did a good job too, and it takes quite a bit of time and effort to make these videos. How hard is it to pause, back up?
Mr. "Ask me how I know!". I find your tutorial very refreshing. Just like a comment, a female teacher just blows through the blanket, and I'm, "Wait, what?"Back up! You are very clear and informative. Thank you so much. 😂❤
I have looked at every self binding receiving blanket video and buy 100% yours is the best the easiest I love it. Mine came out beautiful. I am definitely making more.
Thank you a hundred times over. I followed several other tutorials, but always got lost on mitering those corners. I ended up with a lot of bad news. I could not see how they handled those corners, but you showed how not once, but twice with a good view of where the fold lays, where you place the ruler--it was all so visible that I could follow right along with you and I had success! No more bad news. Thanks for making it so much easier!
SC, as a 58 year young guy-me- whose been seeing since I was 8. Bought my own sewing machine at 23. I'm enjoying the sight of another guy that can see "with no shame to his game!" NEVER allow anyone-not even yourself-to badmouth you for your talent! I know I must subscribe to your channel for my own growth as a "seamster"! Doug❤️👍😁😇🤓
Your tutorial made it easy to understand how to make a receiving blanket. I just made one and now have the confidence to make some more. The mitered corners don’t look so hard to make anymore. Thanks to you for the excellent tutorial. Oh, btw the reminders to back stitch is so helpful.
I tried this blanket a year ago. Seriously a year ago and gave up after the first go. the tutorials (7 different) I watched were absolutely useless! I gave up, cut up the flannel for dusting rags and chalked it up for my fail even though I've been a seamstress for 40 years this relatively simple blanket eluded me.. I watched your video last night, thought I'd give it a go as our friends daughter is having a first baby. today, thanks to your tutorial, I actually did it! I am seriously happy and thankful for your guidance.
Thank you thank you thank you. I was beginning think I didn't have a brain until I saw and understood your clear and concise instructions. I am so grateful. Eva UK.
You are adorable. I love it when a man sews. I remember those nice, big home made receiving blankets I received from friends! They're the best. Thank you for a good tutorial.
Great demo and great teacher. Those dog ears had me stumped and first try was the BAD NEWS you spoke of. I watched tons of vedios and thought I had it but nope. After watching your close, clear pictures, I got it. Thanks.
Agreed! Your instructions and visuals are very clear. Truth be told, I saw your pic and chose this video because my brain works like a man’s brain when it comes to constructing something (dad’s family all cabinet makers!) Now to go back and fix the first two quilts. Third time’s a charm!
This was great. Slow, step by step, easy to understand. This beginner just did her first one, and it came out great. It was forgiving where it needed to be and the corners are sharp. Thanks so much for such an easy to follow project!
I've seen this tutorial done by others, but your example is the best. Very clear, and I love that you showed the pucker, as we all have them sometimes and panic. Love your work.Thank you.
I enjoyed your tutorial on the self-binding receiving blanket. Very well done! Not only do you show the step but you describe in detail. I’m a visual learner & this helped me so much. Thank you.
This was the most exact clear teaching on how to make a self binding blanket that I’ve watched on all of youtube tutorials. I appreciate the focusing with your camera when marking the exact measurements. Thank you and I’ll definitely watch your other videos ... great job! 😊
OMGOSH..I really did get it from your instructions. I struggled with those dog ears over two months. Watched your vedios twice and I DID it this time I GOT MITERED CORNERS. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I love your version of the self binding receiving blanket. I will definitely try to make this. Your instructions are so easy to follow. Thanks for sharing, God bless you!
Fabulous video. Best I've watched. Thank you for showing a top view of the corner cut. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I've made many of these and I always do a basting stitch in the corners and turn it inside out to make sure I did it right on the 1st one!!!I I'll print a screen shot of the corner and won't have to baste first. Also thank you for the tip about buying 2 yards of each fabric!
Great tutorial. I have watched several tutorials and yours is explained well and to the point. No extra chatty stuff. This deserves a #10 and Subscribe. I'm looking forward to more of your tutorials. Thank you.
This is the best self binding video out there. SEW easy! I have wasted a lot of time with other videos that were not clear. This technique makes it super easy and fun!!! Ty
This us such a clear, well-organized video. I have had lots of success following this...I'm on my 6th one of these bkankets. Matt, you are a fantastic teacher! I use your burp cloth tutorial, too. Fabulous!! Thank you.
Such beautiful gifts, I’m sure your friend will love it, I know I would’ve, when I had my babies.* There is nothing nicer than getting a homemade gift that’s made from the heart.
Oh goodness! Need more male in teaching! No time in wasting,I like the closeup in videos and simple quick steps.Goid Job!! I compare this video the one before ...your much precisely in instruction .I'm going to make one soon.Thank you!🤗👣👣
Of all the videos I havwe watched for making a self binding baby blanket, yours is the most understandable. You are very precise and make following along very easy, Thanks for another great video.
Oh my gawd. I just plain LOVE you! Those mitered corners have been so pesky... I formulated my own free hand way of KNOWING they are right.... and it’s exacting.... JUST USED YOUR METHOD. It is PERFECT!!! The line perfectly matches my OCD engineering method. “THANK YOU” does not begin to show my appreciation!!!!!! THANK YOU GOBS and BUNCHES!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much. I have a new grand baby coming, and this will be great as a gift. Your way of explaining the steps means they are very easy to understand and make sense of. This is a keeper video....thank you and i hope your friends’ baby is enjoying the blankets! Surely, so
Thanks for your tutorial. I have been sewing for years and making baby clothes etc, but have never made a blanket like this. Very clear instructions! Before turning right side out, I ironed the seam towards the binding. I also did a double row of top stitching, instead of a decorative stitching, on the binding. It turned out great! Thanks again. Keep the tutorials coming!
I forgot the 1/4" mark at the corners. Your instructions were great and the easiest I have found. Will send picture of corrected completed project. Thank you so much for sharing not only your sewing/crafting talents, but your gift of teaching. 😉💙
I really like how this turns out. I have to give it a try. I picked up a panel piece of flannel and I found some to match so tomorrow I am putting it together. Thank you
Thank you so much for this easy to understand. I have watched 3 other ones and continued to get box corners instead of mitter corners. I was ready to give up and found you, I just finished my first baby blanket and it’s perfect. I am looking forward to watching the rest of your videos and making more blankets.
Scrappy, I love the way you explain things. I have seen this self binding blanket before and it was just too complicated. Love this I have some tops pieced for baby blankets, I think I will use this technique to finish them. Thank you so much for a great video. Has the water started going down yet? Take care, i'll see you next time.
I love your videos! Thank you! I believe your #11 stitch is called a briar stitch. The embroidery type stitches are especially nice if your machine is set up for twin sewing, using two spools of yarn at the same time. You can use a pink and a blue spool with the briar stitch for these blankets.
Loved your clear directions and your way of explaining. I just made one and it turned out but, I did get a pucker in one corner. Now, I'm looking for your burp cloth video.
Thank you , sir, for the wonderful tutorial. Everything is perfectly clear and without unnecessary information. Your job is highly appreciated.
I have made a few of the self binding receiving blankets, now I watched a person (female) that uses the same technique as you do. You can slow the speed of the video
But, I agree with you about some hosts just go too darn fast
I think I watched the same video. Her video was just a little too speedy for me. This video I just watched is excellent!
I had the same experience, watching a lady who just zipped along and the camera was at an angle that I could not see properly. This video is so much better. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
😊

" line up the ruler WITH THE FOLD!! Ask me how I know!! " Love it!!!
Mr. "Ask me how I know!". I find your tutorial very refreshing. Just like a comment, a female teacher just blows through the blanket, and I'm, "Wait, what?"Back up! You are very clear and informative. Thank you so much. 😂❤
I love the way you sewed this minky! So easy! Thank you from Souuthy California.
“Ask me how I know!” 😂
I watched a different tutorial and my first blanket had wonky corners. Now I know! Thanks
Oh thank goodness you explain this so easy. Especially making sure about where the edge should be to mark to make the ears!!
I have looked at every self binding receiving blanket video and buy 100% yours is the best the easiest I love it. Mine came out beautiful. I am definitely making more.

I love watching guys who sew! 😁 Thanks for sharing your beautiful blankets with us. Great job!
This was the most clear, through, and organized video I’ve seen. You’re a great teacher and apparently friend!

You're welcome!
OMGOSH..I really did get it from your instructions. I struggled with those dog ears over two months. Watched your vedios twice and I DID it this time I GOT MITERED CORNERS. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Chop sticks work well to poke out corners! Oh the black threat allows us to really view the seams, thanks
