I have made a few of the self binding receiving blankets, now I watched a person (female) that uses the same technique as you do. But she just zips along and I have stop and rewind numerous times before it gets processed. I am going to say this because I think you deserve to get all the credit. You one explain it really well and your video on the step by step instructions is very good along with your camera being right there showing each step as you go. You sir are my new hero. This is great and I plan to watch more of your videos keep on sewing. I just took up sewing in the last couple of months so I am an extreme novice. But you give me hope that I can and will be successful.
I had the same experience, watching a lady who just zipped along and the camera was at an angle that I could not see properly. This video is so much better. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
Not fair to criticize another person who made a fine video to help others. She did a good job too, and it takes quite a bit of time and effort to make these videos. How hard is it to pause, back up?
Mr. "Ask me how I know!". I find your tutorial very refreshing. Just like a comment, a female teacher just blows through the blanket, and I'm, "Wait, what?"Back up! You are very clear and informative. Thank you so much. 😂❤
Scrappy, I love the way you explain things. I have seen this self binding blanket before and it was just too complicated. Love this I have some tops pieced for baby blankets, I think I will use this technique to finish them. Thank you so much for a great video. Has the water started going down yet? Take care, i'll see you next time.
Your tutorial made it easy to understand how to make a receiving blanket. I just made one and now have the confidence to make some more. The mitered corners don’t look so hard to make anymore. Thanks to you for the excellent tutorial. Oh, btw the reminders to back stitch is so helpful.
Great demo and great teacher. Those dog ears had me stumped and first try was the BAD NEWS you spoke of. I watched tons of vedios and thought I had it but nope. After watching your close, clear pictures, I got it. Thanks.
Agreed! Your instructions and visuals are very clear. Truth be told, I saw your pic and chose this video because my brain works like a man’s brain when it comes to constructing something (dad’s family all cabinet makers!) Now to go back and fix the first two quilts. Third time’s a charm!
Thank you a hundred times over. I followed several other tutorials, but always got lost on mitering those corners. I ended up with a lot of bad news. I could not see how they handled those corners, but you showed how not once, but twice with a good view of where the fold lays, where you place the ruler--it was all so visible that I could follow right along with you and I had success! No more bad news. Thanks for making it so much easier!
It’s actually an owl but can be a penguin if you want. I have a video in my sewing playlist on how to make one. They are super fast and easy to sew up😊
This us such a clear, well-organized video. I have had lots of success following this...I'm on my 6th one of these bkankets. Matt, you are a fantastic teacher! I use your burp cloth tutorial, too. Fabulous!! Thank you.
This was the most exact clear teaching on how to make a self binding blanket that I’ve watched on all of youtube tutorials. I appreciate the focusing with your camera when marking the exact measurements. Thank you and I’ll definitely watch your other videos ... great job! 😊
I have looked at every self binding receiving blanket video and buy 100% yours is the best the easiest I love it. Mine came out beautiful. I am definitely making more.
I enjoyed your tutorial on the self-binding receiving blanket. Very well done! Not only do you show the step but you describe in detail. I’m a visual learner & this helped me so much. Thank you.
Hi Mr Scrappy Patch - Do you have a way to make sure all four side’s binding are the same size-2 1/2 inches? I have 😂made many of these wonderful blankets but lately, I’m having trouble with equal bindings. I am very careful with the 30x40 measurements. Hope you can help, my thanks. Pat
Such beautiful gifts, I’m sure your friend will love it, I know I would’ve, when I had my babies.* There is nothing nicer than getting a homemade gift that’s made from the heart.
OMGOSH..I really did get it from your instructions. I struggled with those dog ears over two months. Watched your vedios twice and I DID it this time I GOT MITERED CORNERS. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I know this is an old video, but is there a way to adjust the size? I am a beginner and this is my first project. Your instructions are very clear and the easiest to follow out of all the videos I have watched. However, I dont have the exact amount of fabric you mentioned.
Thanks for the video, you are a really good teacher, thanks. I will be making one of these in the near future. I wonder if you or anyone knows the answer to this question. I would like a flannel throw to be 50" wide by 60" long. So should I cut 25" off of a 44" wide flannel, or cut just 8 1/2 inches from a second piece of 44" inch wide fabric? If yes, is an offset seam going to look odd and does a centered 25" inch x 2 to equal 50" be better? Does anyone know?
Well... I only listened and followed directions on the first corner... so I have one pointy and 3 fumbled!!! It is only a burp cloth... but good lesson ...!!!
Hi Matt, this is Roger and I have a question for this video and another video. Could you do a video and show us how to apply this video to the video that you make the large fleece blanket? I think I could figure it out, but you are great at instruction which would help me immensely. Hope you see this and respond. I wanted to contact you directly but don't see how I can. Thanks, Roger
Thank you for the informative video. I am looking for this kind of tutorial since my friend will give birth soon or in a week. May I ask if I can do this with my minky fabric?
I love your version of the self binding receiving blanket. I will definitely try to make this. Your instructions are so easy to follow. Thanks for sharing, God bless you!
Your videos are excellent. Can you tell us how to make sure both fabrics are taut? Meaning one is not baggier on one side then the other. I’ve been making blankets fir awhile and can’t seem to get both sides even without any extra on one side. I do use a walking foot. Thank you
Oh goodness! Need more male in teaching! No time in wasting,I like the closeup in videos and simple quick steps.Goid Job!! I compare this video the one before ...your much precisely in instruction .I'm going to make one soon.Thank you!🤗👣👣
Oh my gawd. I just plain LOVE you! Those mitered corners have been so pesky... I formulated my own free hand way of KNOWING they are right.... and it’s exacting.... JUST USED YOUR METHOD. It is PERFECT!!! The line perfectly matches my OCD engineering method. “THANK YOU” does not begin to show my appreciation!!!!!! THANK YOU GOBS and BUNCHES!!!!!!!!!
On the corner you said I'm going to do a straight line but then you went on some kind of an angle. How much of an angle are you putting that line on for the corners? Okay I'm editing this. Now watching you sew that corner it looks like a straight across line.
You should have about a 2 1/2 inch border when you are done so the finished blanket will be around 32-33 inches. So if you are using the 40 and 30 inch squares then you will have 5 inches over lapping on all sides. Divide that in half and it’s the 2 1/2 inch border. I hope that makes sense.

You can slow the speed of the video
But, I agree with you about some hosts just go too darn fast
I think I watched the same video. Her video was just a little too speedy for me. This video I just watched is excellent!
I had the same experience, watching a lady who just zipped along and the camera was at an angle that I could not see properly. This video is so much better. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
😊

Thank you , sir, for the wonderful tutorial. Everything is perfectly clear and without unnecessary information. Your job is highly appreciated.
Mr. "Ask me how I know!". I find your tutorial very refreshing. Just like a comment, a female teacher just blows through the blanket, and I'm, "Wait, what?"Back up! You are very clear and informative. Thank you so much. 😂❤
This was the most clear, through, and organized video I’ve seen. You’re a great teacher and apparently friend!
Me, too
Scrappy, I love the way you explain things. I have seen this self binding blanket before and it was just too complicated. That’s awesome!! Glad it help.
Okay... How did you fix it when on the corners, you lined the ruler up with thr RAW edge instead of the fold? Yeah...I did that. 😫
“Ask me how I know!” 😂
I watched a different tutorial and my first blanket had wonky corners. Now I know! Thanks
I love watching guys who sew! 😁 Thanks for sharing your beautiful blankets with us. Great job!
Oh thank goodness you explain this so easy. Especially making sure about where the edge should be to mark to make the ears!!
The best instructions I've seen on this type of blanket. Thanks so much.
" line up the ruler WITH THE FOLD!! Ask me how I know!! " Love it!!!
Was that a🐧🐧 penguin pin cushion? I'd love to know where the pattern is or where you found it. 🐧🐧
It’s actually an owl but can be a penguin if you want. I have a video in my sewing playlist on how to make one. They are super fast and easy to sew up😊
What can you do if your fabric doesn't measure 40? My one fabric is 30 in but the other one only reaches 38
Just square up the 38 inch piece and follow along with the video. Your binding will just be a thinner width at the end.
Does my blanket have to be square ? Can I make a rectangular blanket, longer than width .
Yes you can make it any length or width you want.
Beautiful bibs burp cloths and receiving blankets.
A great tutorial! Very easy to understand each step. Just made my first blanket. It came out perfect! Thank you!
Agree
You videos are AWESOME! You make everything so easy to follow along. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us❤️

EXCELLENT.!! I like that the camera is always on the project. Videos.
Thanks for your awesome tutorial ❣️ My sister & I faithfully watch it every time we need to make another baby blanket. It's the best one out there❣️❣️
I love the way you sewed this minky! So easy! Thank you from Souuthy California.
I enjoyed your tutorial on the self-binding receiving blanket. Very well done! Not only do you show the step but you describe in detail. I’m a visual learner & this helped me so much. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
How much is 30 in squared? Is that 30 in folded in half?
30 inches by 30 inches square
Great instructions. Clear, precise and to the point. Thanks so much. I will be making several tomorrow for charity.
“I have a little pucker.” Made me happy because I often have a “little pucker.”
Pat

Glad that you said on corners “measure from the fold” I did one before and the instructions didn’t say “from the fold line” Thank you, Thank you!!
You're welcome!
OMGOSH..I really did get it from your instructions. I struggled with those dog ears over two months. Watched your vedios twice and I DID it this time I GOT MITERED CORNERS. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
CONGRATS!! Sharon!! I would love to see it! You can post pics to my Facebook account if you have one! facebook.com/scrappys.patch.1

greeting sir.... can this be done with a rectangle....[26x40].....thank you sir
Could I get your video on making the pacifier strap? I can always understand your videos. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the video, you are a really good teacher, thanks. I will be making one of these in the near future. I wonder if you or anyone knows the answer to this question.

Hi Scrappy, I'm new to quilting. Can you prepare a video on how to cut the 30" and 40" squares using the cutting mat? Thank you.
Hi Scrappy, how much fabric should I purchase for a 30" square and 40" square. According to the width of the bolt? Love a man who sews 😊
My problem is getting my fabric 40x40 and 30x30 square. I think it is me! Thank you for your easy to follow video.
Love when a man sews, i have taught my boys how to sew and embroider. thank you for making this look so easy!
Hello Again, Scrappy, where did you purchase your measuring table????
kafayı yiyeceğim köşeleri yapamadım diktim ama olmadıı imdatt ellerinize sağlık
Did you use ball point needle, because slightly stretchy fabric or even a stretch stitch? Thank you
Hi Matt, this is Roger and I have a question for this video and another video. Could you do a video and show us how to apply this video to the video that you make the large fleece blanket? Can I have the pattern for the baby bibs please?
Thank you for the informative video. I am looking for this kind of tutorial since my friend will give birth soon or in a week. May I ask if I can do this with my minky fabric?
Not sure where i went wrong. My corners dont lie flat. Not sure if i can fix it. Any suggestions?
I would love to find your tutorial for the bibs and burp cloths you were showing here too? I agree you explain things very well. Thanks 👍
I love your version of the self binding receiving blanket. I will definitely try to make this. Your instructions are so easy to follow. Thanks for sharing, God bless you!
Thanks!

Thank you for this video. Even thought you made it 3 yrs ago, I recently came across it and just made 2 blankets and they turned out super cute!
Great job 🤩. Love the blankets and accessories. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
I made several mistakes and it came out perfectly. Thankyou!
Should we wash the flannel to accommodate for the shrinkage?
Oh goodness! Need more male in teaching! No time in wasting,I like the closeup in videos and simple quick steps.Goid Job!! I compare this video the one before ...your much precisely in instruction .I'm going to make one soon.Thank you!🤗👣👣
He explained this so much easier than anyone else I've watched.
Thank you!
I spent hours on this part and I couldn’t figure it out you are the best
I tried to make this twice and I failed! Can not get my corner to do right???
What is the easiest way to square up the 40" and 30" fabric?
Can you do this Blanket with Minky on the back and flannel on the front?
I thought you were amazing at explaining I have watched other videos on this and you make it so much easier I think so thank you
Nicely done Scrappy! I usually make lined drawstring bags, but this looks like something I could handle...I love straight lines!!
I’ve watched a few videos on how to do this but yours is the best that I’ve seen. Thanks! Cami you make both squares bigger?
Yes you can. You can also adjust the binding width by making the back piece bigger or smaller
WtF is a receiving blanket? Never heard of that.
Did u only have 2 corners with dig ears?
No, you will have 4 corners with the dog ears
Great tutorial
Can I do this with a minky fabric as the bigger piece?
Chop sticks work well to poke out corners! Oh the black threat allows us to really view the seams, thanks
Is it not necessary to join the front and back together?
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL THANK YOU MINE TURNED OUT GREAT
This was the easiest to follow. I dont know how i did it, but ended up inside when I turned it. 😢
My first one now that I've watched your video, i have no ideabwhy. Will try tomorrow ad i watch your video.
Thank You Good video
Glad you enjoyed it
If I cut off the cut side instead of the fold how can I fix it
Help
New sewer here. Did you use flannel and cotton pieces for this blanket? (Loved your tutorial style and clear visuals, btw.)
Its all flannel. You could use a cotton print for the center though if you want.
What a great tutorial!!!! Just fantastic. Thanks for sharing - I really do enjoy your videos!
AWE!! You're welcome!
Another easy and practical sewing video. I'm sure your friend will be thrilled.
I love your video! You make is sooooo easy! Thank you! Have subscribed! ❤️🥰
What size is your mat? Love the blanket
Thank you for t
Reply . Love your lessons .
On the corner you said I'm going to do a straight line but then you went on some kind of an angle. How much of an angle are you putting that line on for the corners? Okay I'm editing this. Now watching you sew that corner it looks like a straight across line.
Cute fabric
One more question. How do you know how large it will be? If it starts out 40 and the other is 30 inch. How large will it be in the end?
You should have about a 2 1/2 inch border when you are done so the finished blanket will be around 32-33 inches. So if you are using the 40 and 30 inch squares then you will have 5 inches over lapping on all sides. Divide that in half and it’s the 2 1/2 inch border. I hope that makes sense.
Terrific pattern. Thank you!
how do I cut a 40 in square for the back?
Thanks so much for this tutorial!
still binge watching . Love this . Also took your advice on fabric .com. Love their products . Thanks so much
Thank You for the VIEWS!!
Do you have the pattern for the folded star hot pad? Saw it once, loved it and lost it. Hope you can help. Pat
I do not but I will look around and see what I can find!
Wonderful !!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍 The best!!!
what is the name of the cutting mat you have.
Have watched several videos on selfing binding blankets and this was the best. Well done!!!
Omg love this video. Thank you
Videos are great.
I love your teaching technique.
Can I use cotton instead of flannel?
תודה רבה! הסבר ברור ובהיר ביצוע קל ותוצאות נהדרות. תודה לך!!!
