Love your Video, it got me to finish a blanket for my great-grandchild coming soon. Just one thing I do differently. I have a big issue with slipping fabric. Bad eyesight doesn't help. So I pin my flannel fabric down on Minky with an inch of Minky fabric showing all the way around. No edges to line up and slip. After sewing cut the Minky excess off with pinkie shears. Fewer pins can be used, and both perpendicular and horizontal pinning can be used. This method is how it's done in commercial factories, on fabric that's like the Minky. It removes the slipped edge. I live in Texas now, I was born in Winnemucca and lived in Elko until I was 14 years old. I have relatives living in Reno. I miss the changing of each season. It’s mostly always hot here. Love your tutorials!!!!!
Thank you for the great video. If your table is less than 48 inches wide, Hubby can buy a furniture grade piece of 4x8 plywood to attach on top. Simply sand to super smooth, stain and poly and you have a bigger top.
I had my husband make me a 4’X8’ table from plywood and covered it with felt, for my garage. It has been such a God send. Especially since I do a ton of quilts. The only problem is, it is so dang hot here in TX, that summer months it is miserable to work out there. I would have loved a 4’X16’ table but I can add the edition later on. It costs us about $100.00 with all the lumber he had to buy. One thought I did have was to make just the table top in the dimensions and set it on my dining room table. I haven’t had that conversation with him yet. Lol.
In a pinch (and for cheap) you can do this to temporarily make your table longer and wider: Lay two of the big heavy duty sheets of cardboard they sell in Walmart and Lowes (for you to fold up and make into packing boxes) on your table. Use duck tape ( on both sides) to close the slits they put in the cardboard and to connect the two cardboards. Voila, a longer and wider temporary table topper. After using, you can fold and store it, then bring it out again when needed.
Love it! I will make one to give to a friend while I finish a quilt for them! Since it doesn't take too long i can give it when they are home from the hospital!
Love your gentle and clear teaching style. Question; does the minke and flannel slip when it is washed, or should I add a couple lines of quilting to hold them together???
Love it! I need to make one for a friends baby. I use spoon flower to order fabric because I can’t shop outside the home but I find their fabric so hit and miss on the thickness even though it says the weight of the fabric it still varies.

Thank you for sharing your creativeness. It gave me the inspiration to finish my grandson's blanket. The problem I had was the Minky fabric is always slipping, though I do pin it but when sewing on the sides it will come uneven. I would cut it then I would be struggling to fix it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment Lynne! You finish that blanket! He will love it I'm sure! Are you double pinning? If not, try that! sometimes I even add pins throughout the middle of the blanket just for good measure. Just make sure you get them all before you flip it right side out :)

No I don't. With my care cards I always say to wash in cold water and hang to dry. I've never had anyone complain of shrinking and the ones I've made for my kids haven't either.
I personally don't. I know flannel shrinks up to 3% but I've never had that problem with washing on delicate and hanging to dry. I never put my blankets in the dryer and I always advise my customers the same instructions.
Great job! Do you think that table could be used as a cutting table. I seen it online at home depot, but was unsure of the size. My cutting table is so unstable. I don't want the same one again.
As much as I love my table and my husband's thought behind it, it's not very big for cutting. I often have to go to my dining table to cut bigger pieces. The exact top measurements are 24x52 (inches). My husband is going to build me extensions to it that I can fold up and give me more space. If you can go for something bigger, I'd suggest doing so. But I love that I can adjust the height! Helps me be able to stand and not bend my back so much.
Thanks so much for this lovely video! I do have a question though, so hopefully you can help me out 🙏🏼 What fabric do you use for the patterned side? Is it a regular non-stretchy cotton fabric or is it jersey? Because I tried it with a jersey fabric and it was impossible to get neat… thanks in advance 🙏🏼
I use either a printed minky or flannel on all my blankets. I've used quilters cotton before and it worked great. I've never used a jersey knit but I can see how the stretch would be difficult to work with.
@@KaylaKrische thanks, that’s really helpful. I just ordered some flannel, so hopefully that’ll work well. Was also considering using some popeline, but I’m not sure that would be soft enough… What do you think?

That's odd! I sometimes have problems with the minky wanting to stretch bigger, but not the flannel. I wonder if clips like this would help you instead of pins. amzn.to/3t10cRH
Have you ever HTV the name instead of embroidering it? I forgave an embroidery machine but I was thinking that maybe I can HTV the name. What do you think?
If it was flannel on both sides then it would be fine. Or even cotton on one side and flannel on the other, but minky doesn't like heat. It's a synthetic polyester fabric so it will melt.

It's a cute patterned blanket but it's not made correctly. All material should be pre-washed. If you are not using batting or a filling, you need to put some kind of stitching on the blanket to keep it together in the center. I'm not impressed with your comments about saying you were too lazy to take out a crease, or you do what you feel like doing. That's not being professional.
Hi Katie! This video is about 3 years old. I've certainly changed how I do things since then. I still don't wash my fabric before I sew as you never know someone's allergies or skin sensitivities (it also makes it not brand new anymore), but I absolutely iron my fabric now for more accurate measurements. Some of these older videos make me laugh at myself! 😂 Thanks for your comment!

Do you honestly need all those pins?! Ill bet you still have to take a pin out and adjust fabric. Huge waste of time!
@@BobbieWilloughby In my experience yes. Minky fabric is very slippery and I've had blankets shift on me if I don't double pin. Feel free to use less pins or a different method! There's lots of different videos out there on how to make baby blankets 😃
Thanks for your comment!
