This was my first SLR and it still takes amazing photos. It's sensor seems to have a special quality about it vs newer cameras.
this sensor is really better than canon 600D or above for some reason it works just perfect
keep in mind SLR refers to film this is a DSLR
I like shooting back-lit scenes with it

Have owned one of these for a while and whilst auto mode shots not bad, missed the simplicity of an old style camera's manual functions to get what I wanted in a shot. HI, great video thank you! I bought this camera over 10 years ago to take memorable shots of the kids. Used it as a novice for a few years and then put it away. Pulling it back out - hoping to take sports shots of my son who plays rugby. I don't know that the standard lens that came with this will get the distance that I need - any recommendation on a lens that a parent can use on the sidelines that will take good quality photos at a fast speed (my son is faaaaaast!!! :)). No doubt with the age of the camera I'd have to pick something up second hand, but looking for help to head in the right direction. Thank you!

Good video, this helps a lot! But I have one question though, does this camera have a maximum amount of storage that it can hold? I got this camera from my dad but it only has 8gb currently installed can a 64gb sd card work with it?
I might be wrong but I think 32gb is the maximum. When i bought some cards years ago opted for 32gb and that was why.

Thanks for the information! Just a question, you seem to be able to set the shutter speed to values higher than 1/200 at 1:58 in TV mode. Mine only goes up to 1/200, any idea why? Thanks!
Hi glad you liked the video, I've many more on my channel so feel free to have a look. Off the top of my head it can happen due to the flash, so try disabling it and see if that helps. Let me know how you get on. 👍

Hi Mate, its a 10 year old camera now, so obviously its not the latest tech. Having said that it does take cracking pictures and I've never had a customer complain about quality. I'd say if you could get one in good condition for under £100 go for it! Cheers.

hey i had the canon eos 450D for 10 years now and nowadays i don't think it's a good camera to start with. personally i can even take better photographs with my 6year old smartphone. tbh i would go for a small mirrorless camera like a sony a6000. I've never tried the a6000 but i alleready tried the sony a7s and it is really amazing. i'm planing to buy one of the sony a6000 or a6300 they're not too expensive for what it is.
the canon eos 450d was a good camera back in 2008 but now it is not worth it to buy one. now you can have a 10 times better camera for the same price than the canon release price in 2008
Hi Florian, thanks for your input, I think you'd struggle to have the creative control in a smartphone, just due to the size/shape etc. Obviously with a dslr you can control the lens and various settings independently, while with a smartphone most of the controls are through the screen. I also really like the flexibility the raw files give me in post production, something I know some mobile phone manufacturers are starting to look at seriously. The Sony camera does look quite tasty, although I can't vouch for their durability as I've never used a sony dslr. Pentax, Nikon and Canon, I would be more inclined to recommend for that reason only. I always recommend as a first DSLR that people buy second hand also, just because the first couple of years of using, will be when you make all your mistakes - like dunking the lens into a rock pool, like I did - therefore ruining it! Better to damage a £100 camera than something that cost five times that. But maybe not everyone is as clumsy as my! Cheers.
I’ve brought the camera second-had so how do can take pictures using the LSD screen display and NOT the viewfinder I’m struggling
Hi, you can only use it with the Creative functions so - P, TV, AV, M and A-Dep. It needs to be enabled in the menu screen under the spanner with two dots, go to Live View Function Settings and press set, then select enable. Then once you've exited the menu, you should be able to press set again and it will work. Oh and the wheel changes screen brightness. Good luck.
I'm trying to find a good budget camera for motorsport images, do you think this would do the job?
I think in the right condition and for the right price absolutely. I'd be tempted to look for 500d's too, as they have video capture, which may be useful for motorsports.

Only with third party software like you would with a webcam. Its not something I've ever done, but I have seen blog posts saying its possible.

@@FOXY99BRO The only way I'm aware of is to connect it to a pc and use it as a webcam. I've not done it, but I did read about it. Perhaps do a google I'd have thought it's still available.
Surprised Live View wasnt mentioned as I believe this was the first Canon dslr to use it
That's a good point. I think the main reason is because I've not found it a useful function, mainly because you can't tilt the screen. The situations where I'd want to use it are usually up high or down really low, but at those angles is difficult to see what is on the screen. Although to be honest I do prefer using a view finder, I would rather trust my eye than a small screen.

Hi Nick, thanks, as far as I'm aware there isn't any native movie recording mode on the camera. However some people have managed to capture video footage by tethering to a computer/laptop with the USB. You'll need the Canon EOS drivers from the CD that came with your camera and EOS Camera Movie Record software. I've not done it personally because I'm lucky enough to have access to other video cameras, but I don't see what you'd have to loose by trying it.

You can't I'm afraid. I think they added that function on the 500D.

As far as I'm aware you can't, it's set at 3:2. You'd have to do it using photoshop or something similar.

Hi, you would need to connect the video cable, which has a yellow phono connection to the video in connection on your tv/monitor. The other end is like a headphone jack, that goes in the top port above the usb connection. You'll probably find most tv's don't have those inputs these days though. Good luck.

No not directly there's a guide on the net showing how you can set it up as a webcam, but I've not tried it.

Hi you want night mode at 1.23, unfortunately this camera doesn't have a film mode. That was introduced on the 500d. Although most mobile phones can record high quality video these days. 👍

The 450 doesn't record video. There is a tutorial online showing how it can be used as a webcam, but I've not tried it.

There isn't one I'm afraid as you can't film with this camera.
How do I turn the flash on?
Hi Thea, on the side of the lens next to the focus switch, there is a little circle button with a lightning icon, press this and it should turn it on and off. However in some modes it is disabled so won't work, although it should give you an indication of this on the screen. If you skip to 55 seconds in the video, you can see it next to the red circle. Thea Butler Try this, pop the camera into M mode with the dial, next to the power switch. Press menu and move right to the 5th icon, which is yellow with a spanner icon and two dots. The last menu item is Flash Control, press, Set to select, and Flash Firing and make sure Enable is selected. I hope this does the trick! 😄

jakub kostyál thank you so much I knew it would be something simple! Another question - when I have the shutter speed on 1/4000 how comes in shaded areas - like woodland with my dog - the photo is just pitch black even if the ios is at the highest setting? How can I fix this? Pls help 😫
@@gjj1152 its because its so quick there isn't enough time for enough light to hit the sensor and achieve good exposure. You could try using a flash gun or a lighting kit, to increase the light level.
@@gjj1152 I agree wit sjpidd you shouldn't go above 1/1500 on this dslr. It's not very sensitive to light. For example i would use 1/60-100(don't go less than 1/60 if u don't have pro steady hand it'll be shaky), f6 and iso 400(do not go over 800. It will have lot of noise) in a forrest.
Btw if you have ig or fb tell me and ill ad you and i can help you with that camera settings.

Is this camera good for viewing the moon, Jupiter and Saturn?
With the right lens you'll get some decent shots of the moon. For anything further out you're going to need a telescope and fixings. At 12MP it should give photo quality prints to A3 size. I hope that helps.
