so...finished changing out the pads on both front and rear. Went pretty smoothly...however, found the front drivers side pads to be extremely and unevenly worn--and the lower Caliper pin pretty much frozen up. I cleaned and re-greased the pins--and all is well. My neighbor has exactly the same car (2017 touring) and joked that I must have too much time on my hands. But--I also found a defective battery current sensor (crack across cover) when I removed the negative terminal. I replaced it also and --wow--what a difference. It turns out that the ground connects thru the sensor--and essentially I had a bad ground. Without the sensor --the car disables a lot of electronic features (note that the 12v battery is simply runs computer etc--the hybrid pack actually starts the car) --which now started working! I hadn't even noticed they were gone...lol. The object lesson is that I really think its valuable to do your own work--you get to know your car and can observe first hand anything out of the ordinary. Anyway--thanks for the great video---I'm sure I speak for others when I say sharing your knowledge made a lot of difference...and I'm still hoping you do a brake bleeding video soon--lol
Haha I defiantly need to get that brake bleed video out soon. All the cicadas are making it really annoying to record where I’m at. But I agree with you 100% that is a really valuable experience to do it yourself. Like you said you learn to notice things about your car and honestly the knowledge and key concepts transfer over. That’s awesome you figured that out and have it running better than ever! I always love to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Would love to see one on engine and inverter coolant change too. Also, you should mention how to align piston with guide pin in outer pad otherwise the pad may not wear evenly.
BeforeIi proceed to disconnect the battery :do I put a car in parking or neutral or just stop and shut the car down. Usually as soon as you stop you engage your parking break or if you just turn the car off parking brake engages by it self.
You can put it in park. The reason we disconnect is so that the brake doesn’t engage while we have it off. Or else it would pop out and you’d have a bad day. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
No it’s a tight fit but you’ll be able to pull them out between the cowl and motor. My tip for the plugs is get a couple of 3 inch extensions. You’ll feed one in with the spark plug socket until your holding just the top of it then grab another and connect it. Keep doing it till you have it touching. Then take it out the same way. Hope this helps.
I notice my top caliper guide pin is stiff as hell, I’ve tried spraying some cleaner in the hole after getting the guide pin out (had to buy another guide pin ) but after inserting a new guide pin even with some lubricant still seemed stiffer than the other ones any recommendations on what to do??
Lube it up and keep pulling in and out and it should work it where it slides easier. If that doesn’t work take the boot off and look in there and take a pic and see if there isn’t Gunk in there. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
There are wire brushes available in auto parts stores that fit onto a drill. Remove the boot. Spray brake cleaner in there, hit it with the drill brush, then blast some more brake cleaner in there. Removes old grease and corrosion.
It’s not necessary if the new pads don’t have the holes for the springs. But I do recommended if yours has the ability to add the springs back to do so. But they get their car maintenance done with me often and those brakes havnt given them any trouble at all. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
I askd on ur other video on front brakes on torque spec for BRACKETS. What is it for front AND rear? I have 2yrs on it, I want to paint/lube, inspect. I have OCD.😂🤣 THANKS! U have great videos!!
Hey thanks for watching! As for torque specs I usually try to include sorry about that but for the rear it is 42 on the bracket and 25 on the clipper guide pins. I’ll lost front specs on the other video.
Before watching this great video. Make sure you know what type of rear brakes you have . My prius c 2015 has drum brakes...a totally different ball game.
Great to see you back! Love the new transitions and good explanations!
Thank you!
Great videos doing my front brakes on 4th of July

Thanks for the advice about removing the negative terminal off of the battery
Tell your neighbor you saved over $800

@@JunkyardJunkie yes my problem is that the new pads don't have hole...
Ya you’re fine to not put them back in.

Hope that helps. The 1/2 has more range. Thanks for watching!
great video---now if you would just do a video on bleeding the brakes----!!
I do plan on making a video in the not to distant future covering this! Thanks for explaining what you’d like to see! Also thanks for watching!
👍👍👍
Any recommendation Toyota prius hybrid engine oil?
Full synthetic, I prefer mobile one but honestly all the name brands are pretty much the same. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Don't use locktite .. not Toyota recommended.
Can you share the source where it says this??
You forgot th two tiny y shaped springs. Budy
that’s only on the factory pads. New pads have no holes for the springs. Thanks for watching!
Good job done ✔ 👏
Thank you!
