2080ti Can confirm that it doesn't really do 4K60 and to have everything maxed out it needs to be 1080P. However, I believe this is partly due to some serious optimization issues.
The Division 2 is amazing on the Series X, I'm glad to see it has been addressed on the PS5 as well. It's a really smooth and enjoyable experience, especially with friends.
Me and my mates were kicking a bag of shit down the street and that was great fun ,,,, if you have to qualify with " Its fun with friends " it kinda doesn't say much about the game. the games themselves are boring and so god damned repetitive, Breakpoint and The Division 2 are the same game with different skins. Just objectively bad games
TD2 is Great, if only for the world building and environment, and the massive amount of extra content, such as its lower Manhattan DLC. Yeah, the gameplay loop is dull by repetition, but what game isn’t? Still one of my favorite game worlds to just wander around in...
I'm an old school GR fan and watching Breakpoint gameplay makes me so sad to see what they've done to that franchise. GRAW and Future Soldier are some of the best shooters of all time and completely different games. Rainbow Six has somehow become a competitive FPS and Splinter Cell is dead.
Things gotta evolve. New teams with new minds. If it stayed the same people would complain about that. And it's not like the older games disappeared, you can play them anytime.
@@pt8292 I agree, but there's a difference between evolving a game and turning it into something it isn't for the sake of change. GR was always a realistic military squad sim, and R6 was a realistic SWAT shooter. Ubisoft decided to homogenise most of their franchises like Assassin's Creed, FarCry, GR, Watch Dogs, Division etc. into the same open-world outpost template, and the fan reactions show in them being completely alienated. AC has got back to form recently but the Tom Clancy games are a shadow of what they used to be.
@@pt8292 I agree rainbow six siege is a great example of how changing the formula can be a great success. it’s still going strong 6 years after launch.
I think this just shows how good the one x was against the PS4 pro, delivering similar framerates at much higher resolutions. Too bad the ps5 is limited to the resolution cap the PS4 pro had.
Not in sales though. Over 4 years later and PS4 Pro consoles are still being made to sell to people. Meanwhile, Xbonex is dead nearly a year now.............. and you can still buy one easily.
The PS5 has such a beast of an NVMe SDD well above the Xseries, you can clearly see that the game has not been optimized on PS5 on that regard... Because how is the faster and better NVMe, slower than the slower NVMe, wouldn't that be an oxymoron?
@Aaron Armas yeah it's a great mini console and seems to handle backwards compatible titles really well judging from videos like these but there definitely is quite a disparity in specs
You Xbox fanboys are pathetic. Ps5 is is way superior then Xbox series S, the only reason why Xbox series X is doing well in these games is because of backwards compatibility. The PS4 version will be inherently worse when upgraded to the ps5 compared to the Xbox 1 upgraded version. Look at any new games and most of them are better on the ps5 then the Xbox series X, with smoother frame rates that don’t drop a lot and 3D sound technology with a way better controller and better exclusives.
@@gavinderulo12 I’m currently playing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on PS5. I’m sure it’s way more complicated than flipping a “4K/60FPS” switch, but... I want.
With the additions of AI squadmates and immersive mode (disables gear score among other things) it's basically on par with Wildlands now. Some things are better in BP (player models/animation are MUCH improved, makes it hard to go back to WL) but some things are arguably worse (story and setting are pretty bland, but so was WL tbh). If you enjoyed WL you'll enjoy BP at this point.
I want them to patch ghost recon wildlands a true proper upgrade without the previous generation code... Ps5 is held back by the previous generation.. Ps4 pro is using dynamic 1440p and xbox one x is dynamic 2160p 4k this setting is inheret by the current generation console... I really want to see a proper upgrade , but i don't think it will happen, i really don't know why developers are struggling to bump up the settings in backward compatibility..I really don't get, code can be change .. My only theory is it will affect the previous generation overall code. . Expect xbox series x big advantage on backward compatibility free upgrade..
@@michealbryant899 I own a Series S. And although I am not interested in this title I expected FPS parity with PS5 and XSX. I never believed de series S is a 1440p console. It's not. It's a 1080p console @60FPS!
Because is running in back compat mode, Microsoft's implementation is stronger than Sony's for many reasons, Microsoft being a software focused company, both Xbox One and Series console using modified versions of Windows 10 and DirectX and so on. But ultimately is just not a native port and there's only so much you can do unless you actually port the game. Series S taps into One/S versions as baseline, Series X into One X, and PS5 into PS4 pro.
It's nice that some games got an update for framerates and such and that DF covers this, too. But honestly I'm more excited for the upcoming games. That's where things will start to get really interesting.
You've gotta think of it like this. All the games getting these updates are new to me and others. I've been waiting for these games to become better to play them. There's so many games I haven't played yet because I was waiting for these framerates.
It would be nice, I have it on my SX its never ran better. I have a feeling they will wanna sell the last 3 games as a collection oneday so might not offer 60fps as a free patch. I'd do another playthrough if they do though. Valhalla is great but Odyssey was better.
Do not sleep on the dlc for it, it’ll blow your mind. I was literally in awe the first time I got to Atlantis. That game was hundreds of hours of fun for me, Valhalla is pretty good too but doesn’t reach the level Odyssey does.
Was playing this on series x and the game looks so good. The 30fps does impact the experience for me so it’d be nice to see 60fps but still an amazing game
I don't think it has been as big of a flop as you might think. Played it lately or just repeating the same old stuff like a broken record? If you remove item levels, play in immersion mode, remove drones, crank the difficulty and remove most UI elements (all of which you can do now)...it's a damn good game. Not perfect by any means. But it's a good game, and I see lots of people returning and are positively surprised. It's a shame they had to fix as much stuff as they've had to in the first place ofc. But they've done it and it's very good now. Better than wildlands? Dunno. I'd say they both have their positives and negatives and leave it at that. Hopefully they can take what they've learned from wildlands and breakpoint and make the next GR truly awesome and immersive. I think they learned a lot from breakpoint. So don't think they ignored the negative feedback. Quote the opposite I'd say.
Yet the developers are faithful to those who stuck with it giving it next gen updates. The game is way better than it was before. People keep banging ubisoft but they're updating all their games when others aren't and for that its awesome.

Perfect overview. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm fixing to rent Breakpoint from my library (PS4 version for my PS5) and wanted some info about backcompat. Well done

Breakpoint has really come together into something much better than what we got at launch. Would definitely be interested in playing this game some more on my Series S, but a future 60 fps patch with lower res would be much appreciated.
Well in an unoptimized Ubisoft game, not too bad. obviously 30 FPS is not impressive but if the game had decent optimization, it could obviously had 60.
@@cynthiaandoh9575 If optimised it would probably be 900-1080p and 60 fps with lower quality assets.......thats as expected from a 4 T-flops console but not impressive if you factor in a price difference of only 100$ for a much more powerfull PS5 digital with twice the amount of free SSD space (600 gb vs 300 gb). Series S is to expensive compared to other consoles...... PS5 is just using PS4 Pros settings/mode..... But a lazy “optimisation” in general....that we can probably agree on.
@@qualitygaming7169 But the thing is, the switch usually costs about the same or more than the Series S. But it's playing most games in sub 720P low setting 60fps while in handheld mode. The Series S his priced just fine, and you can even still find some PS4 pros for about the same price as the Series S.
We're starting to see a pattern here of PS5 inheriting the same resolution configuration as the PS4 Pro, even though it obviously could go higher. I wonder why developers are doing this?
Because it's easier that's why. The XSX handles backwards compatibility better than a PS5. There's still Ubisoft games that aren't officially supported by the PS5
Digital Foundry seriously needs to make sure they remind people that doing 60fps modes for cross gen games is really, really easy. The horsepower does the work for you. It doesn't signal any potential for current gen exclusives to have these kind of options. Personally, I hope they don't do that, because that means they aren't using the hardware to the full potential. The only way you can offer a 60fps mode is if you are only using half of the CPU time available to you at 30fps. That's a complete waste. Optimize fully around whatever target you decide to go for. If graphics and more complex worlds and mechanics are your priority, target 30fps. If performance is the priority, target 60fps. And then stick to that and make full use of the hardware at that target.
So now dips for Playstation are glitches and a momentary dip of 1 to 2 frames is considered dips into the 50's for XSX. Good gawd you guys word differently for the 2 consoles.
Quite severe drops at that, it seems to happen at random as well which is the strange thing. In the middle of a fully populated race it runs fine and then on a time trial or when out in front of the pack it seems to lurch down quite severely.
To summarize, these Ubisoft updates are simply running in backwards compatibility mode, not changing the game code like they did for Control Ultimate Edition, Destiny 2 or Mortal Kombat 11, those games have a PROPER next gen update, running at the same resolutions and frames on both the ps5 and series x. Shame on Ubisoft, i was hoping for a proper next gen patch making these games run at native 4k 60 fps on both machines but it seems like they were too lazy to work on the code to make these games run equally just like the other real next gen patches
You do realize that you are complaining about patches that did not have to be made and are free to boot right? Other companies have done less or nothing at all and yet you are complaining about free improvements, Ubisoft should be applauded for supporting these older games for free instead of a paid upgrade.

We don't expect complete overhauls of older games. But devs should really update their older games to increase the resolution and framerate. Is it really that hard? It seems like a one man task (especially since most games have pc ports with higher resolution assets)
I completely agree. There‘s so many games rn I stopped supporting. Warzone, Apex, Minecraft are some popular prime examples where there are constant patches by the developers, but they‘re refusing to simply unlock some features.
The problem is that Sony and XBox charge money for developers for patch submissions. And if a patch fails to pass inspection, they then need to double down and pay again or give up on a loss. The update then needs to be on game marketable enough to make for the money spent on the patch. As for me, my fingers are crossed on AC Odyssey still though as I'm more a fan of Greek than Norse Mythology.
@@volatilelyle5170 It is true. The reason being is that Sony and Microsoft have to test it as well to make sure it doesn't crash the console or corrupt the console. This extra step is why some games get their patches on PC first. Example: Rainbow Six Siege has a test server (separate build of the game to test balancing) that has it's on servers on PC. This is because they can just dump out patches whenever on there. There is no test server on console because it's just not financially feasible to pop out patches as fast as they want to, to even bother with supporting a second, test build of the game. It wouldn't even be fast enough to keep up with testing because Sony or Microsoft would have to spend the time to review them. It's why they have failsafes server side to prevent glitches, because a patch would take to long to keep the rank based multiplayer from being corrupted by a new exploit/glitch. TLDR: Console is more curated at the cost of expense of the developers and time for update approval.
Argh! Developers *really* need to stop omitting the performance mode on Series S! It has the CPU for it. Who cares if it runs at 900P (or even 720P)? GIVE PLAYERS THE CHOICE.
Most games have the performance mode. With Microsoft new tech to upgrade old title fps we should see most last gen games at 60-120fps. As these are old backwards combatable I believe 1080p 60fps is easily achievable in future games being developed for these new systems. Most people will disable ray tracing given the chance if it means playing at a higher fps. Ray tracing won't be possible on any of these consoles unless thy somehow make it easier to run it. Ray tracing means 30fps for these next gen consoles.
serious/legitimate question here. this is probably the 4th or 5th game that i've seen running at 1440p on ps5 vs full 4k on xbox. what is the problem? is it a developer issue or something deeper? i'm leaning towards buying a ps5 but videos like these are causing me some concern...

Sure, but I do think you'll start seeing NEWER games focus on a 30FPS target on "S" and a 60FPS target on the "X" and PS5. Some game devs came out and said the GPU was the limiting factor for them (it varies by title.. for some it's system memory). You either go for parity (or close) on visuals at 30 vs 60FPS or you go for lower resolutions and drop settings. There's good reasons to go with lower res and maintain 60FPS, but again for some games I can imagine it will be 30FPS on the "S" ... or ideally the option of 30FPS at higher visuals and 60FPS at lower. Depends on how easy it is to offer those options but if it adds too much work then 30FPS might be the only option. (It's good in some ways that the "S" exists as that may help game devs and game engine developers to put more focus on engine flexibility in terms of GPU power and video memory capacity...although i guess the PC ecosystem and last-gen, x86 consoles sort of do that already)
It's kind of amazing how little it would take to make Breakpoint great. Better AI and a Wanted system like Wildlands had + better gun audio are really all it needs at this point.
@@JeffZ1028 The AI is slightly better than it was at launch, but still poor for a big budget 2019 release. Enemies react to hearing a buddy get domed right behind them as if they just stumbled upon a cold body, not like they're taking fire. They'll only react appropriately if your shot travels right past them or you dome a guy they're already looking at. Then during yellow suspicion lots of enemies turn into deaf statues who only "wake up" if you wander into their line of sight or fire a shot right past them. And shotgunners will just charge straight through the open instead of taking cover even if you're already aiming at them. Since these are all a bit situational I guess it's not as bad as it sounds... but still bad.
Lol, not really... we’re simply seeing games take advantage of the BC hardware MS put on the chip. Kudos to them. When development actually goes next-gen and developers code for SSD, you’ll see what the PS5 can do lol

Yep, devs have had more time with it and it's showing. People forget Microsoft was a year behind Sony in getting dev kits out because they were waiting for the full-featured chipset from AMD. So, dev kits were late and there is a learning curve, but as time goes by the extra power and features of the Series X will become more and more apparent. People like to constantly talk about the PS5's SSD, like it's some magical device that can magically make the rest of the hardware more powerful than it is. Shocker. The more powerful console puts out better performance results. It's almost as if the launch titles didn't have access to all the features of xbox series x at that time like how it was reported that devs didn't get the full feature set dev kits from ms till around July. Be prepared for this to become a trend the more the console generation goes on with the series x being in the lead most of the time when it comes to performance.

Plus in certain demanding areas on series x in valhalla there are missing shadows to uplift the frame rate yet framerate takes a nose dive.. What???????? What a delusional little child.. Series X doesn't run at that resolution at all.. Both run between 1440p and 1800p 60 fps 99% of the game.
It's easier to go into code and change a line or two to uncap limitations. For PS5 to all of a sudden have 4k visuals they would have to enhance the resolution on the PS4 game, which would take a lot of work. And I'm guessing it's not as easy as just importing the One X visuals over.
@@sleasy01 Ghost of Tsushima was also running on back compat but it got 1800p60fps with a lot of GPU overhead. This is now the 2nd free PS4 upgrade that Ubisoft have butchered in a row.
@@najib9093 I think ghost of tsushima is a different story tho. They were making the game while the ps5 was in development. So they could have said let's code it to take advantage of the next PS5 with little work. Not sure if it's a lot of GPU overhead left. If it was why isn't it 4k?
@@BACK2PORT Yes, because its alot harder to change that on PS5. Normally its only Ps Pro Mode with unlocked Framerate. On Xbox its alot easier to make these changes. And the Devs don‘t want more work on old games.
Agreed, but I also think that the 3rd party games coming out in late 2021 will make the actual use XBOX's true power and that extra 20% power will show up either in better resolution or better fps but in loading time, Sony will shine.
I own a xbox series X and let's be real we both want our console to out perform the other so that we feel we made the right investment. So let's enjoy playing games rather than nit picking.
Here's my thing: I want to see Xbox receive the same coverage now when it is graphically better or performs better now similar to the coverage PS5 received back in Nov. & Dec. It was plastered on EVERY video game news outlet when PS5 performed better than Xbox in some games in that time. Where is all that talk when it's the other way? Admittedly, I haven't seen much of that same energy in media.
Because there aren't many games running better on the Xbox Series X. Even the games that do isn't that much better. It's news when the PS5 is better because of how much hype Microsoft made that the Xbox Series X would be the best for multi plats. Otherwise it wouldn't really be much news at all. The Xbox is 20% more powerful on paper but so far, that hasn't translated to a trend of noticeable improvements over the PS5 and more games are running better on the PS5 than the Xbox.
Looks like Sony don’t really care about last gen upgrades, especially third party as long as they run. Need more current gen games to compare what’s what.
I takes TIME to get these features working. Yes, Microsoft is ahead in many ways but I don't think you can assume it's about them caring or not. It's pretty complicated. And some of this is the game developer not Sony... either way, people need to NOT READ TOO MUCH into some of what's going on. None of this "proves" performance differences in hardware for example... anyway, a lot of this stuff is going to take another year or so to really shake out. For example, we might start seeing AI upsampling (similar to DLSS) for older games to help them maintain 60FPS... Sony will hopefully get a FAST RESUME feature similar to Microsoft. Lots of work to do.
Been playing the gaming for the first time on PS5. Seems like the the loading has improved. As for the screen tearing bug, I've encounter it last night for the first time. Closing the game out and restarting fixes the issue. As for FPS, the game runs flawless during intense combat.
I love all the excuses and explanations DF give about a game when its inferior on PS5, if its the other way, they just celebrate and never talk about it again lmao
Xbox engineers are the real MVP thios console generation. VRR as standard, xbox series x games paying off. those guys are awesome. They make Sony try harder so we all win.
Hey guys at DF. There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding upgrades for this game. Would really appreciate a video where you can inform everyone the particulars. Ubisoft obviously can't do it and the devs seem just as clueless. Do you have to actually purchase the game AGAIN in order to receive the real XSX upgrade? Say it isn't so, Joe!
@CYVstudio I have both. I'm kind of annoyed the ps5 doesn't get performance or resolution modes on some games. Ubisoft games run better on xbox but ps5 has better exclusives. It's a lose lose for consumers. Bethesda will be exclusive watch
I appreciate the strategies of both companies. Sony prioritized exclusives a little more. Microsoft prioritized hardware a little more. I, personally, would go with the company that prioritized hardware, because the games will come later. I'm a patient little fella. The Xbox will just continue to prove itself more capable as time goes on, obviously. No need to be a fanboy to see that.
Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Perfect Dark, Fable, Avowed, Echo Generation, future Bethesda games and not to mention the potential for other exclusives like Conker, Banjo. I'm forgetting to mention a lot here, I'm sure. The point I'm making is, Microsoft definitely has a lot of exclusives they can drive home. Some already announced and some they shouldn't sleep on. Both systems this generation should have their fair share of exclusives.
When you talk about Hardware it comprises the whole console. Not just the on paper GPU specs. Each console has strenghts and weaknesses relative to each other. You say the Xbox has proven to be more capable but performance of the majority of recent games say otherwise. Again, titles like this only confirm backwards compatibility is handled better by Xbox but is not representative of next gen performance where more often than not the SX is being outperformed by the PS5.
What was the xbox one X upper band before the new patch. Just curious if the PS4 - 5 patch is just lazy deving get it out quick approach. Could One X do 4k before? even if only for a moment.
I've watched a few of these videos comparing XSX with PS5. It seems like when the consoles first released, many games were running better on the PS5, but recently that has switched and now most games are running better on the XSX. Am I imagining this? What's going on?
The gap between them will get bigger when next gen is in full swing. We have seen it already in Hitman 4k 60 xbox with exception to one area. 1800p 60 for PS5.
Developer's got Xbox Dev kits late and as of lately Xbox been outperforming the PS5 as time goes on the XSX will destroy PS5 even more it's just facts 🤷🤣
Both great consoles but I do believe once we start seeing these consoles being pushed to the max that the Series X will start showing it’s advantage a little more.
This is a backwards compatible game. True test will be on next gen games built from the ground up for both consoles. Sonys backwards compatibility mode is not as good as Microsofts and backwards compatibility games have more access to the full series x power compared to Sonys solution. Why do you think even the load times are better on all series x vs ps5 backwards compatible titles ?
Yup, it was exactly as I thought. It was just a bug and that they would patch it. It made no sense that they would intentionally disable those graphics features for the PS5 version.
I still wish devs would implement a 40fps option at resolution mode for people with 120hz screens. It can't be much more difficult to push the FPS 10 more frames per second.
All ubisoft franchises begin to merge into each other, they feel like the same game with different skins.

@@JJJ-uo2xb do devs legit have to pay Sony and xbox a fee to update their game?? That doesn't sound right. If it's true then it's really dumb
It’s back compat. Ps5 is playing the ps4 pro version which is lower settings than the Xbox one x version the XSX is running. PS5 outperforms most XSX games when they are NATIVE next gen versions of games.

@O BeReTaH it was still running at a lower resolution, go back and watch the video please and thanks, the series x was running at a higher resolution which is dynamic 4k while ps 5 is running at ?????1080p to 1890p so what do u expect if ps5 is running the game lower
@O BeReTaH all those was before the tools, noticed after the tools the series x is running at higher resolution, remember too that AMD is the one that's taking time to release rdna features to the developer plus Microsoft worked with the biggest pc company to achieve design features which isn't AMD but Nvidia
@O BeReTaH just look hitman 3 ran at a native 4k 60 while on ps5 its 1800p thats alot more pixels the more the pixels the harder it is to run at a stable 60.ps5 can't run hitman at 4k and other titles are coming,by the way did u remember when the one x came out the pro was first beating it,but then things started turning around, well its the same here you'll see
@O BeReTaH as I said before we shall see, because even the game u've mentioned that got a patch is still running at a lower resolution, if it was more powerful or more capable it would be running the same or higher with higher frame rates,to put this where you'd understand what I'm saying is if the series x should drop to the same resolution we would get the same stable 60fps plus plus more graphical details, and thats facts coming also from digital foundry
All the fools in the prior Division 2 analysis saying they intentionally omitted SSR and volumetrics on PS5 because it was necessary to hit 60fps, even though it was blatantly obvious it was a bug that needed a patch. And here it is.

@@truthinlifewoken6698 Agreed ,,I have the Series X,,but wouldn't mind getting a Series S at all,,Great little piece of hardware.
Didn't one of the more recent updates make changes to the A.I.? Haven't looked into it myself.

If you have a Good PC There's No any point of getting a Xbox ;)
I've watched a few of these videos comparing XSX with PS5. It seems like when the consoles first released, many games were running better on the PS5, but recently that has switched and now most games are running better on the XSX. Am I imagining this? What's going on?
It’s because it’s running on last gen settings, the xbox one x was 50% more powerful than the ps4 pro
@@Retro_Gamer_89 truth
Both great consoles but I do believe once we start seeing these consoles being pushed to the max that the Series X will start showing it’s advantage a little more.
Almost 5 months in and we're already starting to see it.

Wait until e3!
You’re not wrong. Sony fanboys celebrating far too early.
@John Smith
A console would suit you best by your own logic.
