  • @ThisTall

    Is there a reason the base is suction as well? Other then possibly the obvious portability, and to make up for a heavy weighted base? I only ask cause I don't I give it to be the type of tool to move around much, and even if you don't want to screw it down it could always have a btm bar that just sleeves into the bench? I suppose if your already using suction you might as well

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  8 лет назад

      +brendonmartens I added this only as an option. If you have space on your workbench for permanent attachment, that is probably the way to go, as you say, normally you dont move it around. A base screwed to the bench would give maximum stability.

    Great plans and video. I purchased the plans and plan on making one soon but have a couple of questions. What is the wall thickness on the Aluminum pipe? Do you consider PVC pipe? Still having trouble finding the swivel fittings. Its as you have stated the search so far has swivel connector but only until secured then they are fixed which does not work for this fixture.

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      Thanks. i think it is aprox 2mm thick. I did try with 40mm pvc waste pipe first, but it was not ridgid enough

    • @PhilGroene
      @PhilGroene 7 лет назад

      I had the same problem to find swivel fittings and actualy ordered from three different suppliers :-( The ones I have now (with swivel in the article title) swivel but were tight when I received them. Overall I think getting the same fittings as in the plan is not possible (or maybe I am to cheap).
      Many fittings can be positioned but that is just not the same.
      My pipe is 3,0 mm x 35 but that is quite thick. One can go thinner I would suppose.

    Hi, I LOVE that classic vacuum pod!! Absolutely, love it. I love antique/vintage tools! If you ever decide you want to sell it - please let me know!
    Meanwhile, I'm planning on building your wife version!
    Lastly, and this is an off the wall question... But, at 5:49 you are doing your work on what appears to be a Silicon type mat... But, it looks to me like it is from a retractable window shade? Is it? I'm building a workbench next month and I think it would be really cool to have a retractable window shade at one end that I could pull out for glue ups and retract when I'm done! If so, do you have a brand or anything?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  2 года назад

      Thanks Shane. You are correct. It is a vinyl window blind that is mounted on the side for glue ups. You can see it in my workbench video here: ruclips.net/video/tT72Cfart7A/видео.html

    Just bought the plans now that Festool discontinued their Vac Sys. Best $5 I've spent. Incredibly detailed 35 pages. I do have a question though: Festool still sells some of the adapters for their system. I wonder if your system is somehow compatible with theirs, or is only inspired on their design.

      +brendonmartens Thanks. It works great, but is an old industrial piece that was produced in the early 80´s. I found it dumpster diving at work a decade ago.I doubt there are any readily available pods like that one today except for the Festool one

    Hi,
    In the video at 2:21 we can see an Y connection, one of the 2 hoses used to secure the device. It's Ok. Does the vacuum used to secure it stop at the same time when you release the valve to unlock the piece you work on or only the piece is unlocked ?
    Many thanks for the detailed plans I got yesterday !
    Jerome

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the purchase, and for the feedback. The vacuum is only released on the work piece, as the Y split is installed in front of the valve

    • @jgandiol
      @jgandiol 7 лет назад

      Thank you for your quick answer as I am on the market for the whole stuff, I add the Y split! The purchase is a very small thing compare to the help you bring! Congratulations for your creativity and the pedagogic videos.
      FYI: the 2 positions 3 ways valve wa can find is now with the 2 holes on the same side. (Not a big issue).

    What would you estimate this full system cost you to build?

    • @sanityfalling
      @sanityfalling 8 лет назад

      +brendonmartens I am sure it's pennies compared to the actual system. I don't see anything he used that is too expensive, maybe the fittings but they can be had off ebay for not too much. Could use a t-nut instead of a threaded insert. Wouldn't surprise me if the tubing was the most expensive part but even that doesn't cost much. Probably depends on how much scrap wood you have.

    • @ThisTall
      @ThisTall 8 лет назад

      +sanityfalling I agree, I would guess it's under $100, trying to convince a friend debating buying the festool to build this instead. I think the pump is like $1000 without the clamp?

    • @ThisTall
      @ThisTall 8 лет назад

      +sanityfalling the wood and pump would be almost free, just wondering if somehow those type of hose and fittings are suddenly big $$?

    • @sanityfalling
      @sanityfalling 8 лет назад

      +brendonmartens they are quick push fittings and it would depend on the tubing size, so lets say 10mm ID tubing with 12mm od(the tubing he is using looks close to this hard to tell you exactly).

      T fittings for $4.52 5pcs.
      I don't think he used anything else. To be honest you probably don't even need push fittings for some of the stuff hes doing, as it won't need to be disassembled.
      Takes 2-5 weeks from china but that's the cheapest way to get push fittings. I have a bunch I have ordered from doing 3d printing stuff.

      +sanityfalling Wow did I pick some random connectors, I was just using that as a example and was in a bit of a hurry. Will depend on what you are trying to connect it to.

    Why the name festool?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  6 лет назад

      The vacuum pod is inspired by the Festool vac sys, so for the fun of it i called it Testool with a T instead of an F

    Thank you very much for this great idea.
    I purchased your very good plans and build my own version of this vacuum clamping system.
    The functionality is amazing and i'm using this system every day.
    Here's my version: ruclips.net/video/uR5DJL0VT1o/видео.html
    I placed links to your video and website in my description.
    ( I hope, it's ok for you)
    Many thanks!

      I just used an old refrigerator compressor, it works great

    • @ThisTall

      @@bellevuesnekkeri is there any difference in the motor constructions. Cause I see a lot of guys using old air compressor motors, but you have to run them continuously for some projects, and the last time I ran a small air compressor for 10-20 minutes straight it was ready to melt. Are fridge compressor motors any different?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  3 года назад

      @@ThisTall Yes they are able to run for very long. I once forgot mine on for 24 hrs, because they do not make any noise. It was hot, but still works. Normally the refrigerant lubes the compressor, but I have used mine for hours without any issue. And if it fails, I just go to the dump and get a new one out of an old fridge.
