Owned an M140i for 4 years.
Bought it at 2 years old in 2019, on 14,200 miles, and totally standard, and spent thousands upgrading engine, gearbox, brakes etc.
The pre 18 plates sound much better as they don't have a PPF.
With a Wagner 200 cell sports cat, and a day on the dyno, it made 455bhp/634nm. Once rolling, in a straight line, it was a missile.
But, no matter how much money I spent, I realised, it would never be a real M car. The chassis is just the same as a 114i. The damping (mine was adaptive) is terrible, it pogo's over repetitive bumps, the back end wiggles as soon as you try and put the power down, the steering is numb, and it just doesn't have enough grip.
Even with 15 grand spent on a diff, better dampers, M3 arms, polybushes, it would still never be an M car.
I drove mine in traction off mode everywhere, had lots of fun, but ultimately it was bound to happen, and I hit a patch of diesel on a dual carriageway and left the road backwards, writing the car off.
So, I bought a 2016 OG M2. The difference is night and day.
Yes it's not quite as fast in a straight line, but the steering is on another level, the damping is fantastic, it settles instantly over bumps, the cornering is unreal, the N55 sounds even better then the B58, the interior and seats are nicer, and obviously the exterior is just perfect. I think it's probably one of the best BMW's of all time, let alone best M cars of all time.
    What a machine.

      Welcome to the channel Nik!
Thank you for watching first of all, because I agree with everything you have just said about the 140i
I've been able to experience many hot hatches and the 140i really does lack in the handling dynamics department, to the point where its quite disappointing
But, however the engine and mental performance really makes up for it until you get to a corner 🤣🙈
I will be doing a proper drive video at some point and all of these points will be highlighted further
Again, thank you for your time 🙏🏼

@@PocketRockets Appreciate the reply, I think the video was fantastic, a good format, good image and sound, and great narration, well done matey.
I do miss the M140i is many ways, it was so comfortable when daily driving the wife around, and actually very refined and the ZF8 is so smooth in comfort mode.
The M2 is always busy, it never feels relaxed. Even the seat foams are harder, and I read they didn't put as much sound deadening material in so you hear everything all of the time.
It's quite firm, hard seats, noisy, raw, and the DCT can be a bit jerky when you're not 'on it'.
But on the upside, even driving it to town, it feels like a special occasion !

@DjNikGnashers Thanks, I do try when I can - harder these days to please
I did consider an M2 but due to lack of practical aspects (four doors, better boot etc)
Just a shame about the handling side with 140i, as I wanted to put some money into that side of things but have always been apprehensive about the jump
It was never going to be a keeper, more of an itch scratched but I've just some content planned in the near future 🤞

Great vid and coverage of the car. Picked my 140 up a year ago and love it. Can agree with you on pretty much everything though, especially the handling! Saving up for some B8s and MMR springs, also wanna get some exhaust work done as mine’s 2019 and completely stock 😢

Thanks pal, glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏼
They do need a bit of work out of the box unfortunately but a good package to work with nevertheless
I honestly think stock exhaust with some fettling is a good & cheap way to make it sound better 👍🏼

If you don't have any of the following then do get them : Xhp gearbox flash, midpipe + mp muffler or equivalent, springs/coilovers, good tyres. Honestly those are the best first mods seeing as you have it on stg2. I'm still considering the worth of an lsd. Maybe a full service, oil change, spark plugs, never know with a used performance car.

The first thing I did was a full service including spark plug change 👍🏼 I plan to service every 8k
I run Goodyear Eagle F1 AS6, the grip is unreal considering the power increase
I personally wanna get it remapped properly, along with dyno runs to ensure its running correct plus I'd like to tone down the overrun - its a bit mental currently
Thanks for watching and sharing your recommendations 😊

agree with you. Overruns are too much let alone the pop and bang tune which is tacky. I'm running bm3 and turned down the overrun to a reasonable level. Still loud though with the decat and midpipe.
