Had an M140i for 4 years, until 6 weeks ago. Spent thousands on it, upgrading everything, transmission, brakes, engine, it was a missile in a straight line. Unfortunately, no matter how much anyone spends on them, they will never be an M car. I had a moment in traction off mode, hit a patch of diesel on a dual carriageway and left the road backwards. Insurance wrote it off. So with the payout I bought what I should have done the first time round, an OG M2. It is slower than my M140i, but it is levels above in every other way, steering, suspension, ride, handling, cornering, and of course, looks.
@@quattrocam Will look forward to it ! I'm absolutely in love with it, everything feels so raw and mechanical, which I never expected from such a modern vehicle.
What was maintenance like on the m140i. Currently have a Clio hatchback that isn't super cheap to maintain since it has a lot of sporty parts. I can't imagine a 1 series being too much more expensive to maintain, even with the 'BMW tax'. I'd expect maintenance to be similarly priced
@@randall96 Oil & filter service isn't too bad, around £200 inc labour at my local BMW indy specialist. Obviously it's going to take more oil as it's a large 6 cylinder not a small 4. Full service is pricey compared to a 4 cyl small engine, 6 expensive spark plugs, the filters I always used genuine BMW so quite expensive, you could probably get OEM cheaper. Think around £600 for big service. I had the ZF8 gearbox transmission oil and sump/filter changed with ZF longlife fluid, and the diff oil,. that came to about £700. Tyres are 225 x 18 fronts, and 245 x 18 rear, and I always put Michellin pilot supersports on, full set around £700 fitted. Hope this helps.
I had a 135i N55 in coupe form, had a DCT box so was quite quick! I most remember the front brakes, absolutely massive! Even bigger than my Z4 G29 M40i I reckon.
Wouldn’t really call 1 series entry level. I’ve had 320i, 335i and not the M140i. Would have to say this is easily my favourite and most advanced car in terms of tech. Love this car, coming from N54 I am so scared of damaging the engine but I know it’s very reliable. Tuning tonight
Yeah that’s a shame, there was still talk of a quad piped 1 series in testing back when we made this video but it looks like that may have been axed or was maybe never a new 140 👎
Ah yeah the BMW 3L engines 😍 Had one in my Z4 3.0si Coupé and then one in an M240i Coupé… loved every kilometer with those. The M340i I have now is nowhere near the hatchback fun those were.
Not a huge Megane fan tbh, not out of these options anyways, personally I would go RS just for rarity and I prefer AWD but if you are outside the UK an Xdrive 140 would also be a car I would really like to own…. Tough choice for sure!
@@quattrocam thanks brother, I’m in Australia here the megane is around 15k Aussie dollars less than the other two cars it’s almost a bargain. The m140i is tempting me also we only got the RWD 4 door versions like England.
@@dehechenka The 140 and RS should hold some good value now they aren’t made anymore, could be worth the extra money over the Megane but if it’s loads cheaper then it’s still a great car 👍
Personally, I'd get the M140i. Of the three you mentioned, I have owned two. The Megane was very unreliable and the M140 is never getting sold. Haven't driven the Focus RS so can't comment on that.
@quattrocam later on yes, for me that was and always would be the first modification to the m140i wanted to do more but then thought if your gonna spend money making it into or as near as possible to an M car why not simply get an M car. As it turned out my circumstances and needs completely changed so went for a roadster instead
@@markrhoden68 100% agree with you, there has to be a limit to modifying, sometimes an upgrade is needed no matter how insane the tuning potential of what you have 🔥

The thing that makes it special is the engine. The rest of it is essentially the same as any other 1 series and it will handle the same way as they share identicle parts. I guess thats a good thing as it means the parts will be cheaper to replace. As far as I am aware the entire car is the same as a 118i m sport apart from the grey wing mirrors and a b58 motor.

Great video mate! Love the info you gave on things to lookout for on the B58 components, really insightful

Better than 335d?
My choice is 140i 3 door manual gearbox rear traction and mod kw suspension and m2 arms for me is the perfection !
