  • I go through setting up 3 universal garage door openers, and 1 old garage door opener that came with the garage, to work with the old Sears Craftsman garage door I just installed recently. It uses an old dip switch system, so I go through the basics of that and how to set it up with the garage door openers I bought.
    If any of these openers look interesting to you and your setup, I'll include affiliate links below:
    * 1st (Keychain remote) - www.amazon.com...
    * 2nd (2 Button) - www.amazon.com...
    * 3rd (The keypad) - www.amazon.com...
    Thanks for tuning in! Hopefully that helped!

    thanks for this. lost original remote. cars are programmed from original remote but need a stand alone remote.
    ALSO saw a stroller in your garage. You said you just got this new old stock opener. looks just like my old one. May not have child stop sensor and could kill a child if does not. Make sure it does or get rid of it.

    What do you do if the code has 2 of the same digit, like 2008? How would you do that if there is only one 0 on the dip swich?

    So, if I have neutral, do I use it instead of the negative?

      If you only have 2 positions on a dip switch, that would equate to the bottom/negative position on a 3 position switch. Middle/Neutral has to go to middle/neutral, so if that isn't an option either on your garage door or your opener, you can alter the positions of the one with 3 positions to accommodate that limitation (only use the up and down positions).

      @overourheads934 The code on my garage in my apartment is 4, 5, 6. How would I position my remote? (my remote has 3 positions)

    The remote I have has 10 digits. Do you pad a zero to follow the 9 bits of the opener's code sequence?

      It's been awhile since I set this up but if I recall correctly, only the digits relevant to the garage door mattered (so the 10th could probably be anything). Since this response by me is late (apologies), please feel free to correct me if that wasn't the case.
