I bought an older home that has a perfectly good Chamberlin garage door system (motor) it's older than 2005... only issue there was no opener given at closing, I tried to program a universal remote opener with no luck.... my question is could this motor just be too old to reprogram a new remote? The original remote will still work, so you need to clear the programming completely and then add new remotes. To clear your unit the process depends on the brand, but the two most common ways- 1) on the opener itself (not the remote) push the learn button until the LED turns solid. Press and hold the up and down buttons (these adjust height) together until the LED turns off. If that doesn’t work for your brand, try 2) on the opener itself, press and hold the learn button until it flashes, keep holding it until it turns off. With either method, test it by trying your other remote and make sure the door doesn’t open
2:02 - I get to this step, and nothing. No clicking. No bulb turns on. Nothing. Checked battery in the remote - brand new CR2032. Wall unit switch btw works fine. Reset the codes in unit. Tried this step again. Nothing. Thoughts?
Sometimes universal remotes are set up to have two channels. This requires you to change the channel prior to programming. It is usually the case that you’ll hold the first and third buttons on the remote until the led blinks. Then try the process in the video again and it should work.

The two remotes I received have a more complicated procedure involving pressing a button on the back then pressing one of the buttons on the front twice depending on the color of the learn button on the door operator, in my case purple for the learn button. Then pressing and holding the learn button, the purple button, at the same time pressing the same button on the remote...one worked the other did not.

My Overhead 450A doesn’t have any little led of any color just a big old light bulb which goes on if I open the door from the doorbell and I don’t see any button to turn anything on or off on the unit Are you talking about a red led on the remote? If not Where is it? I can’t figure it out The old remote is all corroded inside so it is shot. It could be as old as 1988. The door still goes up and down by using the wall button but it’s not convenient.

The universal remotes require an additional step at setup to change the frequency (usually, hold down 1 and 3 to change bands).

I know this comment is old, but I was having similar issues after replacing the lightbulb with an LED one. Make sure the lightbulb is an old fashioned incandescent bulb and then try again.

Good video but I'm still at a loss. I have a 1997 Chamberlain Security +, 1/2HP Opener. It has a red programming button. Have 2 of the LiftMaster Security + remote openers. A 2011 Suburban with a 3 button opener by the mirror, and a 2019 Toyota with a 3 button opener by the mirror. I can't seem to get the trucks and the LiftMaster remotes programed to the same frequency so that all 4 will open the door. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Make sure you are using the right remotes, red button ones require these- amzn.to/3s7KJQt. If you are, first clear all remotes by pressing and holding the red button for 6 seconds- the light will go on and off. Once cleared, start adding remotes starting with the two hand held units. Push the button and quickly release, and your light will go on for 30 seconds. Hit the button on the remote, wait a second, and then hit the button on the remote again. If it took the program, your door will open or close. Repeat for the second remote. Once the two remotes are programmed, go to your vehicle with one of the remotes and follow the program procedure specific to your vehicle. For instance on the suburban, press and hold the outside buttons on the truck's opener and the light will flash rapidly after 20 seconds. Then, press and hold the button you want to program and the button on your programmed remote holding the remote 1-3 inches away. Hold until the light on the truck's opener starts flashing slowly. Press the truck opener to confirm the program took. Repeat for the other vehicle.
Thank you! I tried this and it didn’t work. My issue was figuring out what color my garage button was. My remotes also had instructions on the back that said I needed to press the back button, ( very tiny button) I suggest anyone read the instructions for their remote cuz the button color looked brown. Turns out it was purple 😅Mines are from Amazon 2 for $13 instead of 1 for $35😈

I have a Genie and bought 2 additional remotes. If I program one, it works. If I program the 2nd one, the first one quits working.

Just the new one unless you hold the Learn button for 30 sec, which will erase all remotes it has already learned.
