Tulok insulting theatre with an audience of 80% theatre kids is an insane move but I low key respect the confidence

Ultimately, if you’re playing it right, we choose casters not because its good, because it rarely is, but because it looks rad as hell to shoot lasers everywhere.
That and if done correctly allows you to avoid most bosses attack just by being far away, definitely not everybody's jam tho and I respect that
Casters are better when something else (fellow Tarnished or summoned Spirit) can draw aggro. Melee fighters seem better for solo play as you can turn foes’ aggression on them. Archers get shafted either way

I have a fun little idea for a run:
On a new game plus character, fight every boss (where it's possible) with their equipment (both armor and weapon, lookalikes).

This means that you would need to use 8 Dragonmaws to break their stance if they were an enemy.

I, as a truly enlightened spell enjoyer possess the knowledge that the only true, valid and needed reason to use spells is that I like the pretty colors and the cool animations. The dragon communion spells make me feel like a cool dragon, and isn’t that truly all that any of us are looking for?
Vibes > Practicality
The dragon cult themed everything makes me feel like a literal thunder god, soooo
I am a registered spell enjoyer BUT I will never claim that they are better than weapons. I just think they're pretty. Having swords float above my head and stab things for me looks cool.
They're cool, and fun.
They CAN be as good as/better than Weapons, but require far more work most of the time, so they end up feeling worse.
Yea, as a spell enjoyer, spells need commitment. U must commit your build to them. However weapons, u can genuinely use them at base stats, fully upgrade them and do well.
But spells are cooler.
I think it can be summed up as 2-5 spells are better than weapons, 10 ish are viable, and the other 90 or whatever are pretty but useless
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 Yea fair, but the fun part is making unviable shit viable.
Also, Varré build when?
Yeah, among many other things Elden Ring is great for making so many playstyles viable… Not EQUALLY viable, but viable is all that’s needed.

Loretta's Greatbow sorcery honestly feels like the greatly inferior and Magic cousin of Frenzied Burst.
The chad Frenzied Burst can penetrate shields when fully charged. The virgin Loretta's Greatbow can't(
Yeah, Frenzied Burst is SO much better.
Finlay and loretta should fight for malenias love
My money is on Loretta, that armor has some great holy resist
Loretta had that horse and Finlay still was stye one to carry Mali
Or they could just, you know, be polyamorous
i think it's funny that the first "spells are bad" joke occurs when a spell actually _does_ something in one of these vids that suits the playstyle: adding like 66% extra damage and a _bit_ of poise chip to a jump attack for the cost of some fp and pressing a button while out of attack range
now if only the glintblade sorceries weren't just worse than the ash of war you get off of rogier's rapier
I use glintstone phalanx as an early warning tool for enemies in dungeons. It tells me that to the right of me there will be an imp.
The bow I use to snipe some small enemies from a distance. Makes fighting the rest easier. Yes there are better ways to do this, but carian sorceries look cool.
Hey, that's a great idea actually and some cool tech. Thank you!
I feel you on the spells since 90% of them hit like wet spaghetti and the other 10% are handheld nuclear bombs.
Yeah, when people say "spells are broken". They only mean a SMALL handful of particularly powerful ones.
Night Comet, Comet Azur in SOME boss fights, Ranni's Dark Moon.... Um.... Uh.... What else? I like using Night Shard for fighting Invaders sometimes but um.... Yeah.
I'll be honest. Most of them are PRETTY bad. And I'd rather use melee weapons.
Not, in PvP, it's a little different. A good hybrid build will be SUPER annoying.
Yeah, Night Comet, SLICER, and Glintblade are great. Comet Azur is funny, but only works against like... 6 bosses?
i played a spell build, but i was pretty smart and i only used the melee carian sword spells.
Magic Misericorde+Carian Grandeur and crit them when they poise break was pretty good too.
Normal comet, nigh comet, both moons, slicer, adula sword, satrs of ruin deal are really good, they deal up to 2k dmg and are very spammable
Incorrect. All of them hit like wet spaghetti when compared to a melee weapon with similar investment. The BEST spells are *almost* as good as just using a melee weapon instead. And that's the problem. The ceiling of spells is still not at the floor for weapons.
As someone who has done a few sorcery only runs and liked them, I’m 100% not saying spells are good. In fact I actually really agree with you they’re abysmal but also I just like being a funny guy who shoots blue lazars. Like you can’t tell me summoning a sword or bow from nothing and flinging that directly into the face of a nearby enemy isn’t super metal. It’s not because they’re good it’s because I’m having fun and that’s what matters in the end.
11:45 Technically you could have 4 Loretta fights. There's also the Stray Mimic Tear.
I feel like Mastery retains its projectile pattern from the actual Loretta fight or in other words: It's made to look cool and assumes you're mounted on a horse for extra elevation, so if you fire it like a normal person would at a ground-ish level target, half the arrows casually curve directly into the ground. Feels like an oversight to me.
i've been here since about 30k and im so happy to see you reach 100k subs!! you both deserve it!!

Love these builds man. Keep them coming
ah yes the pizza slice helmet, truly a decoration of all time
Pac Man is trying to eat her because she's a ghost at caria manor
Don't get me wrong I do love casting spells on faith and int builds but for how slow spell casting can be I think its perfectly fine to just use your melee weapon. They gave it an ash of war for a reason, and plenty outperform both spells and standard attacks. Like, the Dark Moon Greatsword? Its begging for you to spam charged heavies after using its ash of war, and its probably going to do better damage than most spells you can cast without locking you in place nearly as hard
DMG, the acronym is literally shorthand for Damage
Love a good Magic reference, also good video. This build looks fun.
Elden Ring spells basically go into 3 categories:
1. Really cool looking, but don't really do anything. This accounts for 94% of spells
2. Are extremely effective, but are incredibly plain and boring. This accounts for 5% of spells
3. Only good in one extremely specific situation and never again. This accounts for 1% of spells
Somehow the Nut is all 3
I think someone at Fromsoft said "spells need to be not as good per stat investment as weapons because they give you range and keep you out of danger" but then they forgot that in order to make spells usable, it requires 2-3x as many stats to level as weapons in the first place, so instead we just ended up with really cool looking/feeling spells that are inferior in damage and efficiency. I'm also convinced that the team that worked on sorceries worked completely independently from the team that worked on incantations and the team that worked on weapons.
4:08 literally the worst staff after ng 💀
Spells are pretty good, but they’re not as accessible as DS1, where you don’t level up catalysts, or Ds2, where spell speed is boosted by attunement.
You could try some popular wizard build like idk, Gandalf, and pretend the Azur staff is the one casting incantations, it gives you 40 virtual dex (and does not consume extra FPs for incantations), alongside 30 virtual dex from Radagon Icon, you get 70 virtual dexterity, the hard cap for spell speed
Sorcery is objectively the strongest build in DS1. It takes significantly more investment than just getting lucky with Black Knight drops, but the payoff is actually superior to make up for that. Sorcery in Elden Ring is weaker than a faith caster of any type, both of which are still weaker than any melee build.
You can tell Tulok is a barbarian from how much he malds over spells
And yet, as a librarian, he enjoys books. Which spells are in. Curious.
Love the videos and I have fun as hell with spells. This way I can learn only half of the boss' moveset

I've been waiting for the ginger root Loretta needle drop since I started watching these
I did a Loretta build a while back and it was pretty fun. It was kind of a grind doing it on a fresh character 'cause I didn't want to do NG+ and it was one of my highest level characters at around level 175 or so. I did mostly use the halberd but when I played online I RP'd with the spells. For the build I had 70 int, I went quality with the strength and dex for damage. I had around 50 vig and I don't remember how much mind and endurance I had.
YAY!!! My meteorite stick suggestion discussion with Phil was in the vid!!!!!
Of course! It was a great idea!
I SAW THIS LIVE ON THE INTERNET! AWESOME!
Hey, now you're watching it edited!
Hey, the bow made quick work of those birds, that’s TECHNICALLY not nothing, right?!
True, and I bet it beats patches and soldier of god
Finally, Loretta! Now if only her War Sickle could also cast her sorceries
ginger root needle drop goes crazy
I have never played Elden Ring but I love watching Tulok play this game.
an option you could have gone for was getting her teardrop shield from the giant albanuric in the consecrated snowfields and put glintblade phalanx on it - making the only sorcery worth worrying about her bow, which is actually a decent option for super long range
This builds armor the previous number one builds weapons plus all the S tier spells might make the best build ever known to Elden ring
So what's worse, Loretta casting magic with her weapon or Gascoigne using his weapon while two handing his axe? (Both being things the player just cant do for some reason)
Loretta for sure, I don't ever want to use a blunderbuss haha

Glad RUclips recommended me your highest-> lowest rune bosses video, you’re hilarious!
Ooooh that's a T&M classic
Good Snorse reference Tulok. Loved OTJ
When I used Loretta's Greatbow/Mastery it's usually just to snipe enemies, even still Greatbow is better to snipe, but Mastery can proc multi hit talismans when 3 hit
Tulok is the only guy to kill a dog every week and not be the bad guy.
Keep up the good work. Lol
Casters are strong because you can make space as you're attacking and avoid most enemy attacks by simply not being close to them. They can reach extreme amounts of damage with the cracked tears and scorpion charms or blue dancers, and the godfrey icon. At 40 dex you can use the radagon icon and you'll max out your casting speed. It's a lower floor but a higher ceiling, whereas most weapons just perform Fine for most of the game
Almost every boss in the game is most dangerous at mid-range. Exactly in the space you have to be to hit with any spell that isn't Loretta's Greatbow or Magic Glintblade. At long range, none of the good spells have the range to hit. And at short range the tiny stance break attacks prevent you from casting though aren't particularly dangerous to your health. If a boss is about to kill you, almost guaranteed it's one of their mid-range attacks.
The bit about 'extreme amounts of damage' is objectively incorrect. They peak at lower dps than any melee build gets from just attacking while dodging at close range. The ceiling of a caster doesn't match the floor of a melee fighter.
Congrats on 100k!!
i remember the first time i used loretta's mastery after getting blasted by it by preceptor miriam and getting one shot every time and i was so disappointed by the lack of damage, yet i continued to use it because it looked cool

the fun thing about carian phalanx is using it to set up an unpunishapble jumping R2
In defense of spells: They look cool and I like the idea of them. I wasn't able to make it work my first playthrough and just wore Ranni's hat for the drip and used Lion's Greatclaw on the Greatsword

The perfect description for this video
😂😂😂😂 the theater thing was so funny😂😂😂😂😂😂 I was never really a theater guy either😂😂😂😂😂
A week is a long time to wait for a tulok and mango video
Have you ever thought about/done any runs just like this, but where you actually match all of the character's in game stats?
Best defence for spells. They look cool, and I like to use them. Everything doesn't need to be busted sometimes if you think you look cool, that's all that matters.
So fun fact, the best way to build for her halberd is to pump intelligence, since thats what the skill scales with and im fairly certain int is the highest scaling in general? Also, multi-hit spells are typically bad at lower int levels (60 is where they get okay, 80 is where they get like, good.) Plus the advantage of spells is that you are out of range of most enemies. But yes, weapons typically are better than most spells due to the resources required to make a lot of spells good. (Incantations are a little less demanding than sorceries, but even as a faith player i can affirm that sometimes i prefer to just build for one of the good fair weapons)
Congratulation on 100k!
Thank you! Next stop: 101 k
I would recommend greatblade phalanx, it's no glintblade phalanx aow, but it does deal 30 stance damage, and similar damage to carian phalanx ( more at low int), it's not the best but its better than carian phalanx.
I particularly like greatblade on something like a darkmoon greatsword build, where you don't want to switch to another weapon to use the gbp aow and lose the buff on the weapon, but you would still benefit from just a little more stance pressure. With two charged heavy projectiles and a greatblade phalanx, you're dealing somewhere near 90-100 stance damage to a boss, which will stance break most of them! Just helps keep stance breaks consistent
Congrats on 100k!
I cannot express the *whiplash* I just experienced hearing the phrase "Caustic Bronco" on an Elden Ring video
Snorse is so good
dex matters more in faith casters, as it affects two things, casting speed (both for incantations and sorceries) and lightning damage(incantations only).
realistically, for an intelligence caster, theres not much point in taking dex past 18 IF you use the radagon icon. 25 if you don't. either way, its only affects a sorcery's casting speed, as there is no sorcery that deals lightning damage.
this is why some(faith) say dexterity is important, as it has a direct impact on their damage (lightning incantations/armaments scale with faith and/or dex, while fire incant/weapons scale with faith and/or strength) and some(sorcery) say its a tertiary stat at best(only affects casting speed)
I have an idea for a character build: Hornet from Hollow Knight. Really high Dex and Endurance. Black skin and eyes, white hair in that one pigtail style, white makeup to almost completely make the head white. Godskin Stitcher for the main weapon, either Keen or Bleed affinity, Bloodhound Step AOW (or since DLC is out Wing Dance). Offhand would have either a whip or nothing. Outfit would have the Black Knife Assassin chest piece and Roderika's red hood. For later game can also get the remembrance for Malenia's sword and be able to switch between the Stitcher and sword for attacks.
For a lot of spells they kinda just work on weapons or builds where you gonna have that stat anyways, I did an ordovas great sword build for a play through and I had a solid amount of faith, so I had frenzy burst for bosses who start far away to do chip damage,(and killing annoying over world enemy’s without actually fighting them) for me its a yeah why not it’s super niche and won’t happen much but it happens and is helpful when it does.
I always like the magic references. Any chance of mtg content in the future?
I am, at this very moment, procrastinating memorizing an entire script to put on a show for a hundred people one time, and I feel personally attacked right now.
Started a cipher pata only run, would love to see you use it too. You can use it with the faith physic and faith talisman off rip lol
Dex only helps with spell speed in an incremental manner, and if you're just using the carian spells and the halibard it's not going to be a big issue. But then again the halibard does scale with Dex as well so..
Only thing we want more is you getting good with magic.
Spell enjoyer. I went int/str and was just fine without Radagon’s icon or the fast staff in the off hand.
I can’t accept that anyone has ever done theatre with a planned one performance run
Oh god the holes reference brought some instant nostalgia
Radagon Icon and casting speed only really makes a difference for certain spells in PVP. PVE the difference is typically unnoticeable. But say using Gavel of Haima to roll catch in PVP? Your casting speed can make a good difference.
Yeah Loretta's Greatbow is one of those "situationally good" spells, in the same category as night maiden's mist, thops' barrier, and maybe one of the moon spells. Good when the situation is right, but there's only a handful of those times in the game. I definitely agree with you though that carian phalanx is dog though.
I think Carian Phalanx has decent stance damage, but I'm also pretty sure the Glintblade Phalanx ash of war does the job just as well if not better for less FP.
dude, carian phalanx does NO stance damage. Its like... 2 per blade, at most. Glintblade Phalanx ash of war is 10 per blade
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 Unfortunately, 18 stance damage is half-decent for spells.
But the ash of war is just superior in every way because FromSoft seems very scared of making the average spell that requires a limited resource any good. I 100% agree when you say that spells need a complete makeover.
Night Maiden's Mist is weird in that there's a relatively long period of time at the start of the game where it's your best damage dealing option as a sorcerer, due to just how much it can do with so little FP. And FP being the number one limiter for the build in the early game.
i tried to like the video a second time when you jumped over the placi laser
watching this in the background then i'm hearing a recipe? amazing
That ad read was a back and forth
Halberd charged heavy goes hard with the axe talisman.
I love Loratta's mastery. I will never say it's a good bread and butter option. I don't love the Phalanx spells, but they are decent for exactly one thing; as an opening move during the period where where medium toughness enemies aren't actively trying to kill you yet.
Gz to 100k subs
Thank you, we're pretty proud of it
Comment for the algorithm, as a non spell enjoyer I think the point of spells if you aren't going giga one shot mode is to keep up stance pressure when bosses are doing their get off me moves, you can do the same with like, throwing knives but hey the spells do more damage than that at least right?
I don't think that is what the spell enjoyers are advocating for, but it is a reason I was using them in this run
have you been practicing your early game mohg fights for all the DLC weapon builds?
10:28 No one's gonna talk about this casual little reference? lmao
Fun fact, some armors change their flavortext if you alter it, and removing loretta's cape gives a cool change in lore
100K subs, let goo!!! \o/
When it comes to the bow spells, Loretta's Mastery actually is weaker than the Greatbow spell unless all bolts land on the target, and even then. Its best used on a horse, but even then sometimes a bolt hits the ground. As for the Carian Phalanx, its great to combo with weapons due to the delayed launch, so setting it up when you need to make distance is a great tactic for certain bosses, like when the gargoyles spew poison everywhere. But I have to agree, it really is better to use weapons. Like Rogier's Rapier, which has an ash of war that does better than the staff stuff because Fromsoft doesnt give spells stance pressure.
Oh hey my comment about the radagon icon made it in, yay
Glad to be of service

Kinda wish fp recharged like in the convergence mod, but that would make invasions even more ganky than they already are.
It would be fine in PvE though, kinda like the convergence mod.
This build proves thar the best way to use spells is in melee range.
My best casting builds are q moonlight greatsword dude in heavy armor and frost sorceries, and a pure caster who chains Gavel of Haima into Ice Lightning Spear
FP efficiency is only one of the reasons Carian Slicer is the best spell. The other is that it's a melee weapon.
