So glad I found this tutorial. This will make an awesome QAYG block or a rag quilt either way no long arm quilter needed. Going to try it as soon as my new quilt room is set up. Thanks for your time. Great instruction
You're a great teacher. I'm real thankful I found you today. I've subscribed and liked. I've always loved raw edge quilts and you've taught me well. Can't wait to begin my quilt. Thank You❣❣🥰 P.S. I backstitch also because I once bought a quilted coat and when I washed it a few of the blocks shredded up - so I'm paranoid of seams coming apart on everything I sew...better safe than sorry.
Love the quilt! Love the raw edges! Have you considered any quilt as you go methods? I’ve been thinking of trying it out. I like the technique where they don’t use a strip, because I don’t want more cutting 😆.
I'm so glad you like it!! I have thought of trying the Quilt As You Go method. But, I've not seen a video that explained it well enough for me to try it. It's definitely on my list to master and then film a video.
So happy you’ve added this tutorial it will be perfect for my new square Sizzix pro dies, I thought they would be a good buy as I’m enjoying sewing these days and could save me time and money in the long run. I also bought a ragged edge square die to make a tatty quilt at some stage & your tutorial covers both in one. Love the cute floral fabric you’ve used, your quilt looks very pretty! Is it expensive to have someone finish the quilts for you? I’m not sure if anyone finishes quilts near me in the UK but I love the random free quilting pattern on them, it adds beautiful texture but it’s not something I’d feel confident trying so end up keeping it simple. Thank you Angie! X
You're very welcome!! Regarding the long arm quilter. Find someone that does it in their home and it's way more affordable. Ask your local fabric shop if they know of a long arm quilter and they usually will have a whole stack of business cards.
Hi - I have Sizzix too! So is it a MUST to use fabric that has been pinked on the edges? Can I use straight cut fabric also to make a raw edge quilt block?
Wow, I never spend that much on a quilt. 10" layer cakes are typically over $50, plus a charm pack at $20 or more, plus a mini pac, plus over 4 yards backing and batting, plus longarm charge. Most of my quilts are less than $20 total, as I buy almost all of my fabric at thrift stores, and quilt them myself. So mine are cheaper, but they take me more time, for sure.
That's one of the reasons why I don't sell my quilts. The fabric is really expensive!!! But...my arms, shoulders and neck can't handle cutting fabric for hours and hours so that's why I use a lot of precuts.
It will fray eventually, sort of...... BUT if you want to accomplish a "fuller" frayed edge effect, it's best to remove the pinked edges before you start to assemble the blocks. This is actually a great scrap buster quilt project.... I highly recommend using your rotary cutter to remove the pinked edges from any of your pre-cuts if you want it to really get that fluffy, soft raw edge finish.
Could have turned your pieces so mini charm square placed as triangle on the charm piece, and then placed it as a triangle on the layer cake piece for more visual movement. But this technique is so much fun and fast to finish a project!
I just made my first quilt as you go project (a baby hexagon quilt). I will have to see if I can figure out how to make this one a "quilt as you go quilt".
If you pin perpendicular to the raw edge (with the pointy side of the pin sticking out towards the raw edge, at a 90° angle to the raw edge) it keeps your seams straighter and flatter.

You're very welcome! I'd love to see a picture when you make one.
Beautiful quilt! I will definitely try this! You have the absolute best videos. I'm impressed with all that you do.
thanks Kathleen!!
That is so pretty. I will be making one. Thank you for the inspiration.

What a sweet project. Thank you for sharing.
Love your fabric. Thank you for sharing this video
That is going to be such a pretty quilt, I can't wait to sort through my stash and have a go x
I've just discovered raw edge quilts and like you, I love them! I'm going to try one with roses or circles...thanks for video 👍
You're very welcome! I'd love to see a picture when it's done!
Very beautiful quilt!

Could you do half of the blocks ? For a smaller quilt
Can you show us the finished quilt, after being long armed? Thankyou, that video was very interesting to watch.
Love your video. It is what I have been looking for. Can’t wait to make mine.
I did this but I did everything, the backing, batting, quilting and binding all by myself.
That's awesome!! I've never done my own quilting.... one day I will try!

ChicnScratch Great idea, I will ask! :)

Really all beautiful colors. I like that I saw one block that had the colors of our American Flag.
Loves this! 🤗
Love it!
Thanks Susan!
Will this eventually rag?
Yes, a little bit but not as much a real rag quilt.

@@CALB2009 Great to know!! Thank you🥰
@@Charlie-cz3jh Wovens Fabrics will fray, even better!
Could you see your tiny square diagonally?
Yes, you can.

That's a great idea!
Your foot has a marking on it where to stop for the 1/4” turn .
Why do you need more backing for a mid arm then you do for a long arm?
I'm not sure but some of them need more backing fabric than others.
Quilting calculator?! 🤯 I've been doing all of the math in my own!
I'm jealous!🥰
This would work for the Quilt as you Go quilting. 😄

@@chicnscratch That would be awesome😃
You are saying rows and I think they are columns
Thanks! I've got it now.... rows run horizontally, columns are vertical.
@@chicnscratch oh ok! Good to know😊
Wasting a lot of thread
What are you saying I'm doing wrong?
If you pin perpendicular to the raw edge (with the pointy side of the pin sticking out towards the raw edge, at a 90° angle to the raw edge) it keeps your seams straighter and flatter.
