Had one since end of Feb as I got up at dawn on the preorder date (a London dealer told me about the date). Mine came from John Lewis in the U.K. The lovely leather case just arrived. I’ll mainly use that as a half case as my X100VI is in black. One downside is the cost of all the extras you need to get the best from the unit. I have a Nisi UV filter that allows the lens cap to still be used, a Hoya circular polarising filter, a canon protection filter, the great retro Haoge square metal lens hood kit, a Haoge thumb grip, a second Fuji battery, the excellent and cheap Ulbter screen protection kit. Add in the case and is around £2k here in the U.K. but it takes really good photos, even in jpeg. I checked my lens sharpness and it’s excellent. Certainly on my Apple studio (5k) display I can keep zooming in and zooming in. I took a headshot of my wife as a test and it resolves down to skin pores and micro fine facial hair level. She told me I can keep the image as a reference but need to get a promist filter before she’ll let me take another, or use my Canon Pro Zooms… So in summary, this little camera is as sharp as £2k L Canon lenses but fits in my jacket or mini bag.
It is very overhyped and not worth the price even at the manufacturer’s suggested list price and certainly not at the overinflated prices on Amazon or some other resellers. It is fun to carry around but it does not compare to Leicas or Sonys. Personally, I think that my Fuji XT2 with a 23mm f2 lens is better.
Thats weird that you ordered on day 1. I don't have to read but just a few more comments down below yours and that guy has his camera apparently but you don't?
It's my 1st video that I see of you: - very cool studio setup, nice warm colors, sharp, and perfect illumination + exposure 😃👍 - interesting and broad information about the product 😃👍 - I'm no so much a fan of the mint/pink color filter that you use in this Fuji camera. 😂 But that's my personal taste. 🤭😉
You've already shot 5k images on it?! WOW! My X100V only has 19300 and my X100F 8400. And I've had both of them for 4 years now. Then again, that's probably why your photography is much better than mine lol.
Great video as always Gaston! 👍 I agree with all your points. The X100VI is my go to casual camera and bring along for any occasion and for family stuff it’s just great with the specs in this small housing. Since my kids are still small (3y and 1y) I just favour compactness over ultimate image quality. Lately I’m experimenting a lot with b/w recipes since I like b/w to document my family and kids. And it’s really fun, specially if you look at the cost how much a roll HP5 + development would cost in comparison 😅 Btw very nice 35mm 1.4 Summimux on your M6 - I’m still hunting for the Summarit 50mm, but can’t help it to also look at other lenses 😂
Imo this is the best alternative to a Leica. IMO can’t tell difference unless you’re a pixel peeper. And the film simulations of Fuji plus ability to make your own recipes or use others unmatched by any other oem. I switched from FF to Fujifilm with 0 regrets and will have this camera soon. I was a fool to ever sell my x100f.
This camera does not compare to a Leica M with a 35mm Summicron. It is not as sharp and the pictures are just ok. Of course, it is a lot less expensive and easier to use than a true rangefinder. I get great pictures with my M10R, mostly using zone focus for street photography.
IMHO as a Leica M shooter, there is no comparison. I have both. The Leica M with a 35 mm Summicron resolves better on a 40mp sensor and gives more pleasing results. The Fuji is a fun camera but not an equivalent.
I finally have my pre-ordered X100VI. I do also own a Sony A7 IV. My question is: Does the Fuji X100 VI have the Soft Skin Effect, like the Sony A7IV???? Please can you check on it? I can't find it on the X100VI.
I don’t know about the Soft Skin Effect, but on X100vi, the second page of the IQ menu has a “Smooth Skin Effect.” It’s the second option on that page. Is that what you are looking for?
Great review man! I still got dust pulled in to the sensor/lens and I ran a UV filter from day one on my X100T (and I'm careful and have never used the camera in a 'dusty' environment), so I think this is a weakness of these. But man, sitting here in the UK 'Spring'... that light, that sun, those Deco buildings! Sweet!
Main ask for the v7: give us Xpan crop, 3x4, 5x7 crops, more recipe management, a better or more compact lens. I already love my v4 and shooting jpeg only, analog style.
I am thinking about buying a camera as a beginner. I am considering either the Leica D-Lux 8 or the Fujifilm X100VI. What do you think? Which one should I buy, or do you have any tips for purchasing one of these two?
The sensor and lens are the same. The shooting experience id far superior on the D-Lux 8. Menus, OLED evf and screen that’s brighter and higher res than on the lumix. USBC 3 fast charge rather than slowed micro usb. The menu navigation is superb. The only thing is missing is the flip out screen! Amazing image quality and printed as big as 17x11. You can’t tell if the image was shot with an SL3 or the DLUX 8.

I own both and that’s a thought one to answer. The Q3 is superior optically and built quality wise. While the 28mm of the Q3 is versatile some times I prefer compactness and while the q3 is small the X100VI is lighter and smaller. So I gravitate towards the Fuji more, specifically at night because of the flash. The Q3 No flash. When it comes to video both cameras have some decent specs. But non are perfect. The Q3 has mad rolling shutter. But does 8K. The Fuji less rolling shutter but is APSC. The Q3 is a better photography camera. The Summilux of the Q3 is one of the best 28mm lenses I’ve tried and way faster at f1.7 than the x100vi which is an f2 but equivalent light gathering at f3. The Q3 menus are a breeze. The Fuji ones are confusing. The Q3 is fully touch screen including menus. To me a good camera is a camera that you carry the most because that’s the one that gets the most shots. I shoot a lot with Leica and usually I carry the Q3 and an M11 with a 50mm. But now I’m carrying the M11 with a 75mm and the Fuji with the 35mm equivalent lens. Image quality wise the Q3 is undoubtably superior. But that superiority comes with a higher cost and a camera that is not as portable as the Q3. Because the Q3 is full gram and 60MP Vs the X100Vi’s apsc 40MP sensor you can crop to an equivalent of 35mm in the Fuji and still have better shallower depth of field than the Fuji as the Q3 has a widest aperture of f1.7 and the X100VI equivalent to f3. Lots to think about. I got both.
@@GastonShutters Thanks so much for a very good and in depth answer. I have the M11 Monochrom and are seeking a companion. I absolutely adore the leica look and feel. Or maybe the best would be to get a X-T5 or something...still like those fuiji colours and with a better lens (than what are mounted on the x100vi), maybe we have a as a compact camera as the Q3, with the best of two worlds (better lens options and with the fuji colours)...hmm.
@andreasrnning2942 you won’t regret the Q3. Great camera. I love it for street and travel a lot. The Fuji also has that 3D pop and myself being a Leica shooter I don’t understand what the Leica Look means lol. I do understand the character of different Leica lenses but look of camera can be emulated really easy. Don’t fall for that “Leica look” statement.
@@GastonShutters seems still a bit too small, the camera shown in the tiktok video is a Leica and the hole seems to be a bit larger than the one on the fujifilm. For your fujifilm, did you remove the smaller ring inside the hole?
From f2 to f4 pictures are on the softer side but you’ll notice that only if you zoom or crop heavily. I mention that in the video. I shoot most of the time at f8 or f11 which results into super sharp images.
Must be some copy variation out there because mine is sharp at f/2 at mid to long distance and optimal sharpness is by f/4. At very close distances, stopping down to just f/2.2 gives much sharper results. But if you need to stop down past f/5.6 to get acceptably sharp photos, something is wrong.
@@GastonShutters It's hard to know. If not copy variation, then some other issues come to mind based on what I've seen with mine so far: 1.) it's easy to accidentally zoom in past 1:1 or 100% magnification in Lightroom or Capture One and think the image is soft, 2.) IBIS sometimes is flakey and gives me a soft shot between 1/30 to 1/125 sec. shutter speeds, and 3.) sometimes the AF misses focus just enough that it doesn't immediately register as an AF issue. All that said, there is no way an f/2 pancake lens on APS-C at 40mp is going to give the same sharpness as a full size f/2 lens on full frame. And some users are new to X-Trans files, which do not have that biting sharpness look that is somewhat attributable to aliasing from the lack of an AA filter on CMOS sensors.
It is a lens property imo. I tried everything I could. And keep getting same results. But again. Most of the time I don’t shoot open wide so it’s not an issue for me. Just thought I would highlight it
Your picture at 10:25 looks like from a different dimension. Unbelievable! In my opinion there is huge difference between 4th and 5th generation sensor.
Can't recommend the original lens hood from the x70 enough. It's fuji original, for the silver body the colour matches perfectly, a filter fits inside it without adding any extra length and most importantly the original lens good fits it and holds like champ. You may have to seek them out, but as an accessory for a discontinued models, if you find a store with one they'll be happy to get rid of it. Paid €10 for a new one! Annoyingly with the WCL-100 the hood you use on the naked x100vi won't fit, so you may need a second one.
@@GastonShutters the cap fits loose on the x70 hood if you only use the rear part with a filter. With both parts of the hood screwed together (with or without filter) the cap fits really snuggly. The lens hood itself screws on nice and tight
It has a 90meg full frame equivalent sensor. This is marketing gone mad. Btw, comparing this camera to a Leica is rather silly. You don’t compare a Toyota to a Porsche …
Honestly who the hell needs 40mp?? If you’re always cropping so much that FORTY mp is necessary it sounds like you’re getting lazy with composing. Makes file sizes unnecessarily cumbersome too. Don’t most people with Fujifilm cameras just use the jpgs anyway and don’t bother with editing (to the point that 40mp is warranted)? I dunno. Obviously very nice photos! But still seems extremely overhyped to me but of course YMMV…
It is the option of cropping, not being lazy. Have you never cropped an image? Jpegs has nothing to do with cropping, that is about simulations. That 40mpix certainly makes a fixed lens 23mm useable to me whereas before it was too wide.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc certainly I crop here and there, but not to a degree that warrants 40mp. And look given the fact it to a degree mitigates the lack of zoom capability that seems fair enough. Far out tho
You probably talk about the softness from f2-f4. I mentioned it in the video. It’s soft only improves from f5.6 and on. I shoot mostly at F11. I did mention that I wished that they would’ve redesigned it with a new lens capable of resolving more MP
It’s interesting because another video I watched said it gets soft from f8 to f11, mine should be here next week going to give it a good check over lol
There it may be inconsistent copies of this camera. Because on mine is soft as hell wide open. and if you zoom in it has some weird artifacts that I've never seen before and I'm not talking about the worm artifact (that apparently LR has resolved)
Is the Fuji X100VI overhyped or truly the best of it's kind? Let me know what you think.

IBIS sometimes is flakey and gives me a soft shot between 1/30 to 1/125 sec. shutter speeds, and 3.) sometimes the AF misses focus just enough that it doesn't immediately register as an AF issue.
Just thought I would highlight it
I have gotten sharp photos from my x100vI. The lens is not going to give you clinically sharp pics but will allow to crop in and still look great.
@jamesbarron5590 thanks
This is it with reviewers , spouting off before they have chance to use the gear their given !
What do you mean? I shot over 5000 images and I own both X100v and X100VI
Good idea
Try it
Screw the camera... can't buy it anywhere... love the watch though :)
There are a few on ebay at a slight premium
@@GastonShutters APs or Fuji? :))
Ap
@@GastonShutters I’m in the Speedy & Blackbay 58 budget range :)
Was thinking of building a Seiko Royal Oak tho.
Oh interesting !
Me too!! Uk
❤️
Your picture at 10:25 looks like from a different dimension. Unbelievable!
In my opinion there is huge difference between 4th and 5th generation sensor.
Thanks! 🙏
Resolution is NOT double! It is SQRT(40/26)=1.24 i.e. 24% higher than 26 MPxl
👍
Can't recommend the original lens hood from the x70 enough. It's fuji original, for the silver body the colour matches perfectly, a filter fits inside it without adding any extra length and most importantly the original lens good fits it and holds like champ.
You may have to seek them out, but as an accessory for a discontinued models, if you find a store with one they'll be happy to get rid of it. Paid €10 for a new one!
Annoyingly with the WCL-100 the hood you use on the naked x100vi won't fit, so you may need a second one.
I have it. It fits really lose on mine
@@GastonShutters the cap fits loose on the x70 hood if you only use the rear part with a filter. With both parts of the hood screwed together (with or without filter) the cap fits really snuggly. The lens hood itself screws on nice and tight
Thanks for the tip
The lens can't match the huge 40 Mpxl sensor
Yep
Better buy a full frame Q2 with greater lens
the Q2 is a great camera but it will cost you more than double.
Assuming you have the money for one ☹
True
😊
Hey there!
It has a 90meg full frame equivalent sensor. This is marketing gone mad.
Btw, comparing this camera to a Leica is rather silly. You don’t compare a Toyota to a Porsche …
agreed
Honestly who the hell needs 40mp?? If you’re always cropping so much that FORTY mp is necessary it sounds like you’re getting lazy with composing. Makes file sizes unnecessarily cumbersome too. Don’t most people with Fujifilm cameras just use the jpgs anyway and don’t bother with editing (to the point that 40mp is warranted)?
I dunno. Obviously very nice photos! But still seems extremely overhyped to me but of course YMMV…
All good. Use what makes you happy.
It is the option of cropping, not being lazy. Have you never cropped an image? Jpegs has nothing to do with cropping, that is about simulations.
That 40mpix certainly makes a fixed lens 23mm useable to me whereas before it was too wide.
@@GastonShutters oh that I agree with totally! 😊
@@JackBurton-qp4hc certainly I crop here and there, but not to a degree that warrants 40mp. And look given the fact it to a degree mitigates the lack of zoom capability that seems fair enough. Far out tho
@@dedclownsRfunny
I don't think anyone envisions using a X100VI for telephone shots, it's more the crop to get to 50mm that is useful to me.
One day, she will be mine.
I’m selling mine BTW
@@GastonShutters no way! Selling or donating? 😜 How much?
Thinking 2k plus shipping. This is a second unit I got. DM me on iG @gastonshutters

👌understand
I returned mine it is Sh*T
Not for everyone. What you didn’t like?
@@GastonShutters the output from the lens, how the image renders maybe because I’m comparing it to my full frame cameras
Overhyped- camera and your video.
Thank you for stopping by.
