      I have Ex4 and Q3 now.
I think Q3 IQ is far better than FJ, (yes, not a fair comparison given the price tag)
What I really believe is the Full frame out run APSC in any aspect.
Also, the Leica lens is better than the one on X100VI.
I didn't try those other new Fuji lens that designed for hi res sensor.
But those old lens, even the legendary 35F1.4 is not for HiRes.
      My 5 cent.

Maybe spend some time setting up the Q menu to get the most out of the Fuji. Of course just using AP will emulate the Leica on ease of use. Isn’t the Q3 a lot bigger and heavier? Does it also need a rig grip as it looks very slippery so easy to drop? I got a Smallrig grip for my Fuji which may now be too stylish but performs really well in combination with a Haoge thumb grip and Peak Cuff.

Those were the days. I was brought up in dark rooms in the 1970s, the smell of toxic chemicals, the exposure meters and magic of watching test prints develop.
I only tried digital when my work gave me a Canon G3..good lens and fine for 10 by 8 shots.
Now it’s all an unnecessary megapixel chase for no good reason. How many Canon, Sony, and Nikon full frame users actually make proper large prints nowadays?
For a laugh I got my old negatives out of my son when he was 4, back in 1984. They were shot on a Minox 35GT and on 100 or 200 ASA Fuji print or slide. On a cheap (£200) film scanner that produces 5mp images the results were excellent, especially the colours.
Too many folk binned their negs when they had prints done. I’m really glad I didn’t. Especially the lovely shots of my Mum in her late 30s and early 40s. She was very beautiful. We lost her 2 yrs ago today. I’ll be having a bottle of wine with my Dad tonight in her memory.
Then it’s my Dads 90th in a couple of weeks. Told him to dig out his 1950s Voigtlander 6x6 and we will take a family roll. He got it in Singapore in the early 1950s when on National Service.
Sorry it turned into a short essay down memory lane…..

Great video! I owned all the X100 series cameras since the first announcement in 2011! Loved them all and its funny almost all my photos taken of me during the years show me holding one. Last summer I got fed up of the x100v hype and everybody stopping me to ask about it; not about my photography although i got mine way before it got to tiktok fame! So i decided to shift to Leica Q3 and fullfill a new dream I had and I got the Q3. I love everything about the Q3; never needed the hybrid viewfinder, never needed the ND filter on such a camera, never turned video or the flash on as well. But I appreciated the F1.7 on the Q3 way more. If i will ever get a x100vi it will be for the fun simulation presets so i can give my photos to my friends directly and not need to go through editing it “I hate spending time behind a screen” yes money was an issue but if you think about it its like you are getting an expensive camera and an expensive lens both holding the name Leica and quality to it. Totally makes sense - they're functionally very similar and that was a really fair comp, nice one. That said (despite owning an X100T and M Leicas) I'm not a fan of either: too big to be super portable and the fixed lens limits versatility. I just don't really get them - what are they? Premium, retro, bridge hybrids with no zoom and spec-monster resolution?! At least the Fuji is affordable (but expensive for what it is) and the jpeg film sims keep it casual and fun, with instant 'finished' and sharable images. Now, if the Q was L mount..!

I have the X100V and the Q2, and I struggle with this daily. The Q2 has the best ergonomics, handling and user experience out of any camera I have ever owned. With that said, the Q2 DNG files require more work than ANY other digital camera I have ever used. It's brutal how much you have to underexpose to not blow out the highlights, which makes the JPEGs basically useless. The Fuji just gives you great photos straight out of camera. But, when you compare image quality, the Leica blows away the Fuji.

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  4 месяца назад +1

I don't see this being a problem with my Q3 when selecting the right metering mode. For extremely bright situations, setting up highlight priority metering mode should help, although I sometimes find it underexposes certain scenes significantly. Because of this, I prefer using center-weighted mode instead. You might also consider intentionally underexposing by one stop or 1 1/3 stops. Additionally, if you shoot in Shutter Priority mode, you can set up the back dial for exposure compensation and adjust accordingly. I don't shoot in JPEG, so I can recover highlights up to 3+ stops without any issues.
On the other hand, the Fuji excels in producing the best color for JPEGs. I particularly like the Classic Chrome. It's the only camera where I might use JPEGs because they look ready straight out of the camera. This is one of the main strengths of the Fujis. However, as you mentioned, the lens on the X100V and X100VI is decent but not as sharp as the one on the Q3. Ultimately, the Q3's higher resolution can be fully utilized because its lens can resolve the 60MP sensor and likely more. In contrast, I find the X100VI struggles at 40MP, especially when shooting wide open.

I wanted to buy an X100VI, took it in my hands (my photo dealer always gets everything and in sufficient numbers, no idea how he does it), played around a bit and went home with the Q3. The complexity of using the Fuji was just too much…. . Too many choices, too many rules that you cannot remember (if you choose setting a, setting b will be 5 and function c will be inactivated). I photograph with Fuji for some years now and this is something that drives me nuts. The ease of use of the Leica was such a relief to me that I spontaneously bought it, did not sleep for a couple of nights, considered myself insane and ended up loving every second I shoot with it. The Q3 makes me feel at ease, drives my creativity, everything goes by itself (I am talking about street photography…). The handling is just supporting the photographer, the Fuji cameras make me think too much about the technical stuff. I am aware that handling is very subjective, however, it might be something to discuss in a future video? Btw, if someone would have told me that Inwould buy a Leica one day I would not have believed it….

@@18yearsoldnotthe Fuji lens on the VI is quite capable of resolving very high levels of detail on the 40 MP sensor. The fact that it is the same lens as used on V is testimony to Fuji’s optical designs. See the professional tests done on other YT channels on this issue.
Yes the Q3 has a very sharp lens and large full frame sensor but for most non pro users, the fact that it costs multiple times as much does not justify the expense vs the actual use case.
I had to laugh at the comments on using the Q3 effectively as a ‘point and shoot’. The Fuji set to A,A,A can do this too but then go onto do far more specialist work. I used the ND filter and IBIS to take great ‘flow’ photos of a pretty waterfall the other week, for example.
The Q button took me all of 5 mins to set up just as I wanted, mainly for film sims and WB etc. The digital zoom is very easy to use and if you want the 28mm view just get the converter.
I took the Fuji on a major trip/tour to China over the past few weeks and it performed superbly. Far easier than mucking about with a Canon mirrorless SLR which also came with me. The Canon came into its own for tele work only. For all street and portrait etc the Fuji was spot on. I used the Fuji for 80+% of the trip and its waterproof for down in the caves with a filter added.
I’m always amused by the comments on a Q3 a a street camera. In London, Paris, NY etc it’s as much a theft magnet as a Rolex…..how does your insurance work for that? Don’t think it’ll pay out due to ‘user risk’ being unreasonable/lax…
Horses for courses as they say.

P.S.: Or did you mean vice versa?

To quote Gaston from the video: “The Leica obliterates the Fuji when it comes to image quality…” That pretty much sums it up….

There is no doubt that half frame image looks like cropped full frame, doesn’t matter how high the pixel density is. People go after this Fiji either are fan boys or for the camera looking.

A "compact camera" with bigger body than sony interchangeable lens camera with the same sized sensor, nearly twice as big as the ricoh gr3/3x with a inferior lens interm of sharpness and compactness, and that price (not to mention the constant out-of-stock, the scalper situation and near 0 chance of getting it at MSRP price from where I am). No thanks 😂

It’s a matter of preference. In my opinion the Ricoh leverages the power of APSC and image quality better than the Fuji and that should be my next video. I own both Griii

I don’t understand how you can say that the q3 glass “obliterates” the glass on the Fuji. You’re posting these dissimilar non side by side shots and they both look great, not making your point. So if you’re going to compare and make these absolute statements, do the work. It might be true, so make the case. Though the Leica is superior in many aspects, obliterates is a pretty bold claim and objectively false. I’d love a Q3 but I prefer 35-50mm, so it’s a no go for me until they offer the Q3x.

This review was unfair and I stated that. But many viewers requested this video and I did just that. Put head to head two completely different cameras in every sense. But like I say there are some similarities among the differences :)

One is 5x the price so the only people who this review matters to are those who can afford 6k for the Leica.
One you can stick in your pocket one you can’t…
You might as well compare a Rolls Royce with a BMW 5 series.
