Excellent and informative video. I shot hundreds of weddings, including on Canon 1dmk2/3’s at 8.2/10.1mp. The print quality up to 12x8” in albums was sublime. So for anyone concerned, 10mp is more than fine.
For anyone wondering: you can blow up a correctly taken 10 megapixel image well larger than you need. Poster size, and definitely large photo book size. For example a popular 00s DSLR like the Canon 20D was 8 Megapixels and would print large format successfully. 🫡
This is a very good review video! Much better than most RUclips videos on this camera. The various crop comparisons help beginners like myself understand the equivalence of different lenses.
Hi, I just bought the camera and I recently watched your in-depth video, it was absolutely fantastic! Your expertise really shined through as you broke down the camera's features, especially when you delved into the conversion lenses. It's not often that we find reviews that are so thorough yet easy to follow. The way you explained the benefits and potential drawbacks of the conversion lenses was incredibly helpful. You made it clear how these lenses can enhance the shooting experience, which is something many might overlook. The sample shots you included really brought your points to life and helped visualize the differences in perspective. Your passion for photography and deep understanding of the FUJIFILM X100VI made this review a must-watch for anyone considering this camera. Thanks for providing such valuable content-I'll definitely be looking forward to more of your reviews in the future! Keep up the great work! A subscriber from India.
This is great thank you - main point I've taken away is that the WCL is useful as you can crop in but not out, and the size is more appealing than the TCL. I think the size bit is important as it's part of the spirit of the X100 series
Fantastic video! I've been hoping for someone to do this exact comparison since the X100VI's release, (I don't think I've ever commented on a RUclips video before, but this was so helpful I needed to let you know)
Came here to say exactly this. I've just ordered the X100VI as a first camera since a rarely used 15yo DSLR. I was nervous about the fixed lense while hopeful that the high MP count meant I'd be able to crop in, but I've never seen someone spell it out like you've done here (and show it beautifully). Thanks so much, I'm now relaxing about my purchase (just have to wait 10 weeks to get it! 😅).
Very helpful. Waiting for mine. Love the compression with the 50ml conversion lens punched into the 70ml in camera crop mode. That will make for some sweet portraits.
I like this video becaude it validates the use of these converters, the whole reason I want this camera is the compact size, but theres also these converters that allow you the versatility of different focal lengths, I don't want an XT-5 with a 23mm, it feels too bulky, I want the 23mm of the X100VI and sometimes I'll change it up, but nothing is as compact as the X100VI with it's normal lens
It "was super useful' - thank you. I have just bought the vi and WCL. Took them to Switzerland/Alps last week and left my XT5/lenses at home. The X100vi performed well, including with the Fuji weather kit in some very snowy conditions. I used the 50 & 70 crops a lot. Whether the crops are more useful than cropping in post I have yet to experiment with; any view on this aspect?
That sounds awesome. Hope you had a blast. If I could only have one of the conversion lenses. I’d pick the WCL. I shoot in raw + JPEG and process the raw (and crop In post) if I need to print bigger than a 4x6. So in that sense the RAWs are super useful.
For web, and even small prints, 10mb work just fine. Have done it multiple times with my A7III in crop mode. And now we also have gigapixel and Lightroom enhance... resolution is definitely not an issue on any camera these days
Great comparison thanks! I wish you could make same comparison but with people as subjects. I'm more interested in the TCL eventually since i gravitate more towards portraiture and 50mm is my fave focal length. The option to further crop to 70 and 100 while still having very useful mpx is a bonus. I do see a slight improvement in bokeh as well. Great to know you find it optically the better one. Shame they didn't make it smaller with a also a smaller filter size. I wonder if it happens to you too that the rim of the front 23mm lens scratches easily when screwing and unscrewing the converter lens. I saw various youtubers complaining about this. Also the fact that you need to unscrew the adapter and filter/hood before attaching the converters makes the process of changing back and forth a bit cumbersome. Looks like changing lenses on an interchangeable lens camera is easier and quicker.
Well done good info well presented even for me still using x100T did you know the wide converter 0.75 made for the X 70 fits on the x100 and gives approx 26mm field of view also it's much cheaper than the wlc
Please can you demo some architectural shots inside and out with and without the wide converter to let us see linear or other distortions? I recall the tele has some.
Good morning, congratulations for the review and for your RUclips channel. I have a question for you about the Fujifilm x100VI: to switch from photo to video mode you have to act on the rear menu (LCD) by manually setting the mode, but wanting to set any button as the REC button, while in photo mode for convenience and operating speed, pressing the latter records with the same settings assigned for the video mode? I ask you this because I did this test and by pressing the button assigned to video recording on the screen the video recording starts but without any information regarding FPS and more. Thanks in advance for the reply.
thanks again. I processed that in Lightroom, but really, I just used the Classic Chrome fujifilm profile that you can still apply in Lightroom, and just adjusted the contrast and white balance. so far, I am a big fan of Fuji's color profiles. I used to have to massage the sony files so much just to get to that point, and it only took me a minute with the x100vi files.
I'm just about to purchase a X100V1 I'm quite keen on the 28 mm I'm just wondering, do they come as a set or can you buy the lenses individually? Thanks for your video.
Thank you for the video. Any changes in autofocus in low light with the conversion lenses? Any way you can do a video showing the autofocus changes if any. Thank you again.
I have both of these lens conversions which i got for a steal way back when i bought my 100X T. I moved to the F and have now traded to the VI. I have hardly ever used the Tele lens, the wide has been used at gigs when I'm pressed against the stage. Now with the bump in sensor i can't see me ever using it the tele.
I think at the price point and the size of the converters, an xt-5 or similar starts making a lot more sense. You can switch a lens faster than screw a converter on or off. Great video. You put a fair bit of work into it.
I see what you mean. I think the biggest thing about the x100vi is that right out of the box you can just go out and shoot. You don’t really need anything else. It’s kind of the perfect point and shoot with additional pro features at your disposal if you need it.
How does the TCL affect the bokeh? crop mode vs TCL - is the bokeh the same or is the bokeh on the TCL smoother? I was not able to spot any differences in your video. Thanks
Is that a Model P Squarehood? Does it interfere when looking through the viewfinder? Would love to know as there isn't many videos out on that Model P and the X100VI.
No drop in resolution, these magnify or demagnify the image from the standard lens without cropping although I'm not sure if it has any effect on the light transmission.
I finally have my pre-ordered X100VI. I do also own a Sony A7 IV. My question is: Does the Fuji X100 VI have the Soft Skin Effect, like the Sony A7IV???? Please can you check on it? I can't find it on the X100VI.
Thank for this video. I was wondering about the effect of the TCL with cropping. I’m impressed you have two X100VI bodies. I preordered on the 20th and B&H sent a message the 1st batch of bodies has been sent. The rest of us on the waiting list will have to wait an unknown period before our bodies are sent to us. When will that be? Unknown. What number on the waiting list am I? Unknown. I am not amused. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I get so much angst choosing among lens options for cameras. It's like choosing between 178 kinds of toothpaste or shampoo. So I usually end up with a fixed lens camera. These adapters make a nice compromise. You still get focal length options but on a very limited scope. Subbed!
totally. I think that's the beauty of the x100 series. stick to 1 focal length and simplify the process. I think it is neat that you have the option of getting to a wider or more normal view if that's more of your cup of tea.
Hi, if I understand properly: using native lens with digital crop from menu, drops down the image quality from 40mp to 20 and 10mp. But if I use external tcl and wcl of 28 and 50mm, the 40mp will be same for taken images. Is that correct?
In addition. You can still use the crop modes when you have either the TCL or WCL and it will give you two additional tighter focal lengths for each lens but you’ll lose resolution on those crop modes. But you don’t have to use the crop modes if you want to keep the 40 mp resolution.
If you get the WCL-x70 it is also compatible with the X100 and brings you to about 26mm, the only trade-off is you need to set the wide-conversion setting manually (or modify with magnets) and it's a bit larger and heavier but generally cheaper than the wcl-x100.
@@charvdgaag first you need to screw off the front end of the lens which is just a round piece of aluminum, then that reveals an attachment thread, then you screw on the conversion lens to that.
I don't get why people think that crop is the same like focal length? It is just wrong. When you crop a 28mm lens you get a crop of a 28mm image...nothing more.
The blur in the background is always the same, no matter with or without converters. Neither they nor the crop can really replace a real lens of the same focal lens in that respect.
If you look at the sample shots with TCL compared to the standard lens, there's a slight change in bokeh character, I think it's not the same thing that would get if it was a true 50mm f/2, but it's definitely different than the native 35mm f/2 bokeh, kind of a half way solution, I think.
Your statement is false, in that regard the 23/F2+TCL is equivalent to a "real" 35/F2 lens. It is a personal preference afterwards if you like it"s bokeh or not. But the DOF is same az any 35/F2 lens used on an APS-C sensor.
Basically, you have just shown rhe merits of an interchangeable lens system over the x100 and the limitated advantages of rhe converter lenses beyond rhe focal length of the WCL which otherwise isnt available. A great advantage of interchangeable lenses is the different depths of field and different optical quelities and characteristics. And they arent screw in but quick release. All absent from the converters. I do have the WCL-x100ii basically because it was free for me. Main reason I grabbed it was that I've shifted from favouring 23 to 18 anyway. I'd actually hoped rhe x100vi would shift to 18mm to take advantage of the 40MP sensor. I wouldnt have paid €240 for it though - thats what my fanatsic 16 2.8 lens cost! But I definitely won't be taking it on and off. I guess there might be people in the same boat with 23 vs 35, but thats what thevl digital TC is for. I'd say anyone considering the x100vi for the first real camera or first x100 experience and already looking at both converters is comsidering the wrong camera. Better an x-t30 or x-t40 in the summer with some compact lenses. I'd only recommend the x100 for someone that already enjoys 23mm and is happy with that focal length semi exclusivelt. Or maybe has a second camera in the bag with a tele attached.
I agree for the most part with you. the x100 seems like its geared users who are mostly happy with the 35mm full-frame equivalent. I think they wisely chose to stick to that, because its supposed to feel like a "high-end" point-and-shoot, and they achieved that. "Most" people will be happy enough with the lens. The TCL & WCL, I believe is supposed to be for users like you and me who want more flexibility. But that will be for a minority I think. The more I use the x100vi, the more I enjoy keeping it with the standard lens, without any converters. I feel good though that I have the TCL & WCL if ever the time calls for it.
Why do presenters fail to point this out for less experienced photographers. The crop features as well as the 2 conversion lens only change the FOV, but not the DOF. You only get the DOF of the 23mm lens regardless of the crop or conversion lens used. A great presentation otherwise.
It would technically change DOF with the conversion lens simply because you'd be standing in a different spot to compose. DOF is affected by distance to the subject.
Hype is relative. So is cost. if you can name at least one camera that can give you 40mp sensor, compact f/2 35mm equivalent pancake lens, a hybrid viewfinder, IBIS, internal ND, on-camera flash, and an all metal housing, for cheaper than the X100vi, then I would be more likely to agree with you.
I just got it, this camera is just for people who don't know shit about photo/video, think that the camera does it all for them and the most important thing is IT LOOKS COOL AND VINTAGE. "the camera punches in" - it's called a crop ffs and why the actual fuck would you praise the 40mp sensor if you're gonna crop it to 50%?!? But hey, if that makes these people happy, I'm happy for them.
Excellent and informative video. I shot hundreds of weddings, including on Canon 1dmk2/3’s at 8.2/10.1mp. The print quality up to 12x8” in albums was sublime. So for anyone concerned, 10mp is more than fine.

Why is there a problem on the left of your video...
not 100% sure, but I think it's Dehancer pro plug in, I'll have to see why it's doing that.
@@movetomirrorlessOn an iPad, it's both sides of the video.
Maybe a 1% crop in, to see if this solves the issue after rendering?
@@PawFromTheBroonsyeah. I see it now. Good looking out. I’ll make sure to check that on the next video.
Crop and FOV are different things. You lose all the lens fall off and character using a crop.
yes, and no at at the same time. in practice, you end up losing a step in terms of bokeh rendition.
If you’re getting conversion lenses just get xt4
most pictures were not in focus.
To fix this, click on view settings, and then select anything higher than 480p.
The amount of salty haters in the comments is hilarious 😂 i almost feel bad for them 🤭
it's the nature of the internet :(
Bro got cell-shaded hair.
Grey card king.
Lol. I’ll take it as a compliment.
Why do presenters fail to point this out for less experienced photographers. The crop features as well as the 2 conversion lens only change the FOV, but not the DOF. You only get the DOF of the 23mm lens regardless of the crop or conversion lens used. A great presentation otherwise.
That’s correct. I didn’t point that out clearly, but hopefully it was somewhat obvious in the examples, especially on the side by side comparison.
It would technically change DOF with the conversion lens simply because you'd be standing in a different spot to compose. DOF is affected by distance to the subject.
@@michael007ish Assuming you did change positions. Otherwise not.
@@gordonbrown5901Is that not what I just said.
So i can use the lens adapter either with or without the “punch in” correct?
I wish someone would show some originality when putting music to a vlog, everybody uses the same dragged out piano crap
too slow
There are far too many hypes on this camera. Simply it OVERPRICED.
Man wts wrong with ur hair
I was born that’s way
I just got it, this camera is just for people who don't know shit about photo/video, think that the camera does it all for them and the most important thing is IT LOOKS COOL AND VINTAGE. "the camera punches in" - it's called a crop ffs and why the actual fuck would you praise the 40mp sensor if you're gonna crop it to 50%?!? But hey, if that makes these people happy, I'm happy for them.
Not exactly sure what you’re talking about but thanks for watching!!!
