I think if you're making a comparison, you have to show at least two products side by side, or it's pointless. It's more work which is why most don't do it, but I always try to do this in my reviews.

Do you think the existing lens in the Mk V does support nicely the increased MP of the Mk VI?
      Thx 🙏

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  10 месяцев назад

@@eric.p.merlin3537 yes, I think the lens is fine. As I demo in this video, you can see the XH2 and XH2S with one of their best lenses and the differences between 26 and 40MP are similar there too. If you compare the number of pixels horizontally and vertically on each frame, it's not a huge difference.

I am by no means a Fuji fanatic and have never owned an X100 camera. But I am a realist. I get very confused by all the comments on videos and photography forums/reddit that are irate that this camera is more than $999? They claim no fixed lens compact should ever be more than that price.
_TLDR: The X100VI is accurately priced in the market, OR the entire photography market is wrong. That's another debate entirely._
From what I see in the market they have no choices I guess. The Lecia Q3 is roughly $6,000 USD, the 9 year old Sony RX1R II is still sold new for $3,300 USD. The 7 year old Ricoh GRIII is still sold new for $1,100 USD. A 1" sensor, 5 year old, Sony RX100VII is $1,300 new... (caveat, I've used the RX100VI and LOVED it) The closest comparison to the X100VI would be the X-E4 which has an MSRP new of $850, but now can only be found used for $1,200 and higher. Factor in the pancake 27mm f/2.8 and you're at $1,500 with a narrower and dimmer lens, no IBIS, 26 megapixels, no weather sealing. Sure, you can put any lens you like on it, but the price of the X100VI is for the body (plus additional features) and lens combined.
The way I see the market, the X100VI is comparable to a Ricoh GRIII that you add $500 to the price for a twice as effective IBIS module, a lens capable of capturing an extra stop of light, a parallax corrected optical viewfinder with digital overlay, an electronic viewfinder, two way tilting rear touchscreen, a few extra buttons and 29% higher linear resolution.
OR its a Leica Q3 with 19% less linear resolution, a half-stop less of light capture, smaller sensor, and smaller body, narrow the FOV, but add-in sensor stabilization, and reduce the price by $4,400.
Or the RX1R II, don't change the resolution, or the field of view, or light transmittance (of the lens), but reduce the sensor size, add in a leaf shutter plus sensor stabilization, and reduce the price by $1,700.
    Take into account historical data:
    X100: $1,199 (launch) $1,696 (inflation adj)
    X100S: $1,299 (launch) $1,720 (inflation adj)
    X100T: $1,299 (launch) $1,692 (inflation adj)
    X100F: $1,299 (launch) $1,635 (inflation adj)
    X100V: $1,399 (launch) $1,667 (inflation adj)
    X100VI: $1,599 (launch $1,599 (inflation adj)
It seems like this is the cheapest the camera has ever been, especially if you include the last 2 years of extreme second hand prices.

Very wise and detailed analysis, thanks. This being RUclips, I think some of the negative comments on any review are going to be from people who just don't like a particular brand, or in some cases might be trolling. That said, there are also some genuine complaints or questions about it which I always try and identify and reply to, but those who blindly say it should be under 1000 without explanation or comparison just aren't looking at what it offers.

right!..what do people think a company is going to sell a product for less than it was previously with update features haha they do not understand what a business is..lol like some had said if you adjust for inflation the V and VI will roughly be around the same price..lol some people always find something to complain about..if you do not agree or like the camera then its not for you..move on..haha

I'd like to add that the 23 f2 lens you get for ILCs is much softer than the one on the x100vi, meaning you can't quite get the same performance with a combo of let's say xe4 + 23f2

Like many X100V and previous X100 users, I can acknowledge that this camera is not something I need - it’s something I want. However, with the introduction of IBIS, this camera has become a much more valuable piece of gear for me. It has a very unique set of features that actually make it what I consider “the best set photography camera of all time”. Yes, that’s hyperbole, but I would argue that it’s true. The whisper quiet leaf shutter means you can take photos under any lighting condition that impacted E-shutter. Its size means you can wear it all shoot long and it doesn’t get in the way. The IBIS means you can use it for 60p B-roll and get usable footage. The AF tracking make it actually useful for various creative shots that can all be performed silently on a production set.
I’m really looking forward to using this in my personal life, but I’m very excited to have it join me on our next set where I can capture some great images for our social media and possibly deliverable content for our clients.

I got mine today, unpacked while your review was playing in the background, so I wasn't too focused on the PC :-) I went for a walk downtown afterwards 11PM local time. I really like this camera. It is a strong upgrade to the line. The colours are really good, and being able to shoot handheld at 1/4 is great for night shots in the city and opens some great new creative posibilities.

Many people do not know that the XT-4 and XT-5 have been made in china. The move to china for the x100vI was not only for production but for speed. A lot of the components to build the camera were coming from China already so they figured it would be more efficient to do it all in China.

Well, maybe an hour or two, but I'm confident the video would be informative. You should seriously consider putting your knowledge on this camera into a book. Frankly all the other RUclipss on this camera pale in comparison to your walk through. Keep up the excellent work. I am looking forward to more of your videos. You're amazing!! Coming from the Ricoh GRIII, I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality. The biggest advantage of the x100vi was the gorgeous EVF/OVF which I felt sorely missing on the Ricoh. The GRIII is certainly smaller and more pocketable but for me the EVF, the amazing film simulation recipes from the Fujifilm community and the styling of the x100vi won me over.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  11 месяцев назад +2

Glad you enjoyed it! I rarely use the crops on my V as I'm irrationally obsessed with having the max resolution, but this in turn means I often reject the idea of a really tight crop and end up using my phone for longer views which of course isn't a great option! I should try embracing the crop as a test, as the end result may still have sufficient detail, and crucially will almost certainly be better than my phone!

Having to put it in for service to clean the sensor could end up expensive if dust can get in.

I'll try to make a review of the TCL and WCL in the near future. I've avoided them myself as I feel they add too much to the size and weight, not to mention the speed of using the camera. For me personally it's like putting a roofbox on a sports car - ie, using it in a way it wasn't originally designed for. Again, I feel if you want to often change focal lengths optically, go for a camera with interchangeable lenses, or maybe a zoom. For me the appeal of the X100 is ONLY having that one focal length. But that's just me. I'm seeing lots of comments from WCL and TCL owners here, so I'll make a video about them!

Thanks for the great review and including details like the shutter sound. Curious to see how you shoot with it for video. I know that the V picked up a ton of noise from the lens on the internal mic, and I assume it’s the same here, though I havent seen a single review mention it. I think a lot of people will shoot video on this thing for clips of family life using the built in mic.
My assumption is that it’s best to set focus mode in video to AFS so that the lens doesn’t continuously hunt and make noise, and then fine tune with manual focus adjustments (using AF+MF option). However I believe that manual focus aids are not available in this mode. it’s weird to me that Fuji does not let you assign a button to use AFS within MF mode, as you can on any Sony camera. This is the best way since you can use manual focus aids and then call on AFS only when needed. If there’s a way to do this on Fuji I’ve never found it, but it would be a good hack for shooting video on the older noisy Fuji lenses.

I'm surprised by the popularity of these single focal length cameras. Though the higher resolution helps through cropping ability to get some variety from non-stop 35mm compositions. Maybe they got exposure from influencers on social media, or they're seen as a fashion accessory due to their vintage look. I would have said it's because it's lightweight, but at 571g it would be similar or heavier than a Canon M camera with a zoom lens.

I bought this camera and enjoy it. But I think it's hilarious how all reviewers are talking about how amazing it is that they fit IBIS into the body. The Ricoh GRIII/x (I also own) is probably less than 2/3rds the size of the X100vi, and has had great IBIS for years.

Having had an x100f for a few year’s alongside my xt3 I decided to preorder the VI, sadly Fuji only supply this camera (like the V) to social media influencers and not loyal customers, as such I purchased a 23mm f2 and stuck it on my xt3, might just he saved myself £1600. Very disillusioned with Fuji, imagine a new iPhone that you couldn’t buy

Great comparison, especially shutter sound - and lens sound: it's crazy that Fujifilm has so many noisy lenses. 2024, and no LM, no new lens, even for their best selling camera. Extremely limited development capacities, ignorance and/or rigid cost management, as they aren't updating a lot of old XF lenses. Very strange policy.

Thanks, and yes, I'd like to see a few more lens updates from them, especially an improved XF 23 f2 for those who want to 'build-their-own' X100.

Spot on review. I’ve been taking a lot of photos with it myself and comparing it to the V, the IBIS is a big change. I agree with you that the increased resolution is nice, it’s not necessarily game changing. I’ve loved having it on the XT5 for cropping, but that IBIS man. That IBIS is what the V was missing. The subject detection is also nice to have as well. Certainly not on par with the XH2S, I found it did just fine with flying birds at close range. Not perfect, but very very good, world’s apart from the V. I haven’t tinkered with the video, yet but heading out to a pier today to give it a try. Cheers!
