Agreed. I owns the Mark 7 amazing camera. Best AF hybrid pocket camera. It has everything flip screen mic input 4 k and great image quality. I’ve made a video about it a while back
I've tried all three, sort of. Love the images of the GRIII, but my large fingers really struggled trying to use the small form factor. Fuji X100V (not VI) is terrific. Good images, built in flash, very useful ergonomics. But the single 35mm lens has left me not reaching for the camera. It will be going to a home where it gets used more. Especially now that I have the DLux 8. As a Leica shooter, the menus are so similar to other Leica cameras. The 24-75 is perfect as my EDC.
I bought the Ricoh griiix but found its menu too complicated to use. I sold it and stepped back to my Leica typ 109, which is roughly equivalent to the new delux 8. As you said it complements my prime lens Q2 and M10p while serving as a great standalone travel and street camera. Thank for your review.
I currently own the X100V and when the Leica D Lux 8 was announced I was quite intrigued by it, specially because of the zoom. During the summer I visited NYC (Manhattan mostly) with my X100V, and while the photos I got were great, there were some instances when I wanted/needed a wider/longer lens. The longer lens could be solved with the digital zoom of the X100V, but the wider sometimes could not be solved just by taking a few steps back. Last week I visited Brooklyn for a few days and decided to take the X100V with the WCL. Loved the results, but the WCL makes this camera so bulky. I own a Lumix G7 and a G9 so micro four thirds is a non issue for me. My only concern about the D Lux 8 would be dust inside the sensor because of the zoom mechanism and would love for it to have a tilting screen.
Hi, I actually own both! I'd say for pure image quality and just robustness of the body the fuji is probably the best outthere other than a leica q. However, the d lux 8 is built super well, magnesium body with a much lighter feel compared to fuji, it's also significantly smaller which is honestly why I got this. Another major reason is the lens. I'm not normally a zoom guy, but having as wide as 24mm at 1.7 I'm a tiny body with decently large 44 sensor is really impressive. Also the menus and user experience is very much leica. I love my fuji but I can't take it out everywhere especially because it looks not super tiny. While the d lux 8 is small enough to look approachable for the public. Both are great and actually compliment each other.
@@baraaamir7891 Thank you for this detailed comparison. I love my X100V, I think it's a great everyday camera. But when traveling sometimes you just need that wider field of view or a longer lens. I usually compliment the X100V with my iPhone. I think I'll look more into the D Lux 8. Thanks!
Good comparison between the models 👍🏼 I worked with all tree and have bought the Leica D-lux 8 and can state that it’s a very nice product to work with. The results are indeed amazing, for low photo positions I use the Leica photo app to controle the camera, this works fine also. Regards Ton
Awesome video, i have an x100vi and just got my d lux 8, still testing it seems nice. Quick question, do you know if or when the leica looks will come to the d lux 8? Initially people said it would come on a firmware update but im not sure that there is any new update right? Also have you heard from leica regarding this? So far its only availble on the q3 and sl3 i think?
Many. Ricoh GRiii, Sony RX1RII, Leica Q line, Fuji X100 VI. Basically most fixed prime lens cameras. Shutter and Sync speed is around 1/2000 s. The Hassleblad XD lenses have a shutter speed of 1/4000
Great review. I have the GRiiix. I enjoy the photos out of it, but really would like the zoom of the D Lux 8. Is the D Lux a significant step down in image quality compared to the Ricoh?
Nice images and edits! I don’t have the DLux 8 (yet) but I do prefer my X100v over the GRiii. However, the image quality is fantastic out of both. It’s more about the user experience for me.
I have the Q3 and the GRiiix. I also once had the X100V when it was released and the current X100VI for a few weeks. Overall the Q3 blows them all away in the image department. However pound for pound its hard to beat the Griiix or Griii for what you get. I loved my X100V but sold it before all the hype. The X100VI was no faster than the X100V. I love the Fuji film simulations but after they increased the price by $400, made in China, and the same stupid battery the Camera was rushed out due to the tic-toc hype. For me its #1. Leica, #2. GRiiix, and #3 Fujifilm X100VI. Now if Rioch would get up off their arses and release a GR4 it would be all over for me. Cheers.
I’m really enjoying the GR iii x … I had the Dlux 8 on order twice and cancelled twice. They should have included Leica looks … why they limit that to to the Q and SL3 is beyond me… oh well… was going to get the x100vi but forget it … impossible… There is one other option that’s a bit out of the box and that’s the iPhone with Fjorden grip … that would be an interesting counterpoint perhaps off topic Anyway…great review… Now come on Olympus… resurrect the Trip and have David Bailey back on set ?!! 😅
Having both the Q3 and the Dlux 8, and selling the Fuji X100VI, I miss my Fuji because the zoom really is a let down on the Dlux. However, the Photos out of the DLUX are beautiful!! Love this video!
Glad you enjoy it. Yes A D Lux with fixed lens like at 35 would've been great, but this camera brings that zoom range in a compact form factor which it makes this camera unique. There is no other modern camera that I. can think of with this dimensions and zoom lens that's not a 1 inch sensor.
@GastonShutters also interestingly, the 1.7 bright aperture on a zoom is super unique for any micro 43 sensor camera. I don't recall there being any pro zoom option from Panasonic or olympus that is brighter than 2.8, while this tiny camera has a 1.7 to 2.8 zoom! I know it's the same lens and sensor as d lux 7 but it's quite impressive
Leica D lux 8 is basically a Panasonic with only 17mg pixel which is more like a micro 3/4. The most attractiveness of this camera is that red dot and dress like a mini Q2.
Neither of those, today with compact mirrorless system Cameras with excellent EVF and plenty of Lenses that are compact, there are no need for cameras with fixed lenses !
Nothing will match the form factor of Ricoh GR to be honest. If Ricoh comes out with a monochrome sensor or full frame sensor it will be unbeatable. People will buy it even if they don't use it.
I received my D-lux 8 a few weeks ago, and I love it so much. I can bring it anywhere and the image quality is great. To me, it's a perfect daily.
Thanks for sharing
The Summilux zoom lens wins at any aspects.
i think rx100vii should be an honorary 4th mention. can't ignore that little guy, he punches way above his weight class.

Can I design a logo for you to help me get one?
Sounds like you have found your perfect camera.

Glad you enjoyed it. I have no idea. The may want to keep that exclusive to the higher end cameras only. But you never know.
@GastonShutters I hope they add it! Really enjoy your videos, hope to see more d lux 8 content.
Awesome man. Yes will be making more D Lux Content
Seems like the Leica would be the choice for a travel camera, agree? Also like the flash on the Leica. Just difficult to get one right now.
Yeah. The D Lux is more of a travel camera. I like the fact that is zoom.
A technical question, which camera has leaf shutter and what is the max flash speed for all of them? Thank you.
At 24-28mm I would say the Ricoh wins but anything about the D Lux wins for obvious reasons.

Of course the Q3 is a great camera but it’s not compact.

Yes. I own both the Q3 28 and 43. Love them
So sony zv1ii then. Thank you!

Does the UV filter really protect the Ricoh from sucking in dust?
So far so good and I had this camera for a couple of years now

That’s true !
You need to swap your Roman numerals for the FujiFilm X 100 VI. The title of your video lists the model incorrectly.
Oooppsss

If these were properly weatherproof I would buy
Leica Q3 43 is. I soaked it in rain for a day straight zero issues.
$1000+ point and shoot? I think I’ll stick to my $200 point and shoot
That works
