Marantas quickly became some of my favorite plants to keep as a new plant mom. They don't mind a little extra care, they push new growth non stop, even the ones located in the interior of my home, far away from any windows, next to standard, artificial lit table lamps and they don't seem to mind the long, dark, dry months of winter, here the Midwest part of the US is known for. Super tolerant, beautiful plants to grow and watch, in my experience. I LOVE watching how dramatically they close and open their leaves each day to night.
Yes it can be that also... however I do give mine rain water. Overwatering and underwatering will cause brown/yellowing tips too. For those living in city tap water thats heavily treated... its worth finding out whats in the water as it can cause damage to leaves 😌😌
I raise goats and use a few balls of goat poop in some of my plants and liberally in my outdoor garden. It is a slow release fertilizer that does not need composting. I think it is as good as worm castings and for me it's free.
Have to agree with samai, definitely one of my favourite channels. Thank you Sean. I think you show propagations so well. Much better at showing nodes , where to cut etc than most.
I have a varigated kerchoveana. Its one of my most vigorous growers. In my desert climate I cannot let it dry out at all, or it will start to crisp. It also gets crispy if I use tap water or move it away from the humidifier.
Love your videos! I'm in need of help with mine, the leaves are growing so small and it has many "hooks" growing from nodes. They are covered in cataphylls and I cannot figure out what they are. I'm wondering if they are trying to root and start over because the plant is in distress.
Ooh those hooks may be flowers trying to sprout. I always cut them off before they had the chance to bloom as they take up so much energy from the plant, causing smaller leaves
Hi Sean. I actually have a Ctenanthe burle marxii, the fishbone leaves. I bought it with four leaves and it rapidly wilted down to two. Then I repotted it using the calathea mix in your soil video and now it's given me so many leaves. It loves the tropical rain so much too. Thank you for your immense help!

Hi ! Thanks for you're video :) I just propagate my maranta in water ( 2 leafs) ands the roots are not there yet but the leafs are already yellowing ... I think it's game over :(
Thank you again for the amazing effort on your videos. Been thinking about getting this plant but was afraid of its high maintenance as they say... thanks for the video. This is a sign! 😁😁😁
Yas, thank you Sean on the knowledge and tips on the forest floor potting mix when I almost lost my Zebrina coz of overwatering, you were there to help out when I dm you about the yellowing of leaves. I repotted them right away with you potting mix tips! Thank you so much! They are both thriving and shooting up again some new leaves! I’m into Philodendrons at the moment, my Philos will be coming this Sunday and hope to see your Philo collections!
Thank youu. Glad you are having success with that Zebrina. Ive become a huge fan of calatheas and begonias ever since I found that potting mix that they thrive in!
My maranthas also screaming for triming repotting . The look really not pretty. They are outgrow, heavy leaf alredy and tryin to bend with something. They cant climb right hahahah.. after wacth this tommorow will be the day for repotting. 😄
Lol make sure you let it stabilize first… free from bacteria and viruses 😀 I think people bake them in the sun or some processes to break down the harmfuls.
I hear you recommend different types of media’s and potting mixes. Do you have something that shows each kind of these and what is in them? I love your channel. I have a lot of plants in my house and outside my house, & your channel is soo informative and has shown me some changes I need to make to my pots, but I need to know what kind of soils or media’s to get. I’m confused. Many others say to keep the soil damp and not to let it dry out. I have a new red maranta which I sit on wet pebbles and I have been keeping the soil damp. It seems to be doing very well. I’ve had it two months and it has 3 new leaves coming up. I haven’t fertilized cuz it’s new from the nursery. I’ve never propagated and I also haven’t kept one alive very long. I’m certain I over watered the previous plants or they didn’t like where they were placed. I’m going to be mindful with the one I have now and I love all your advice.
Oh this depends on where you live. I live in high humidity and high heat southeast asia. This will rot if its kept perpetually damp without drying out. Also it depends on the condition with which the plant was grown in before. Roots actually adapt to moisture level, a sudden change may kill the roots.
Hello. can someone please tell me why I have what looks like aerial roots on my Maranta! very strange. not seen any one any videos. can someone explain. thanks

Hiya!! Love your video! My maranta interestingly crisps up when I underwater mine- but i water mine more often than other plants because I live in a colder, drier climate and the only time it doesnt die is when I water quite a bit!! 🤣🤣im an underwaterer so I killed a few marantas before finally deciding that overwatering (in my tendencies) actually kept them alive. But that could also be because I have less humidity than you so I just water the top of the soil and it evaporates to become humid

Thank youu. Plants should bring us calm and peace, good call to give it away if its bringing you worry. See if you can get a cutting from your friend though and root it in your place. The cutting may adapt well to your space 😌
Thank you for the video. I'm debating whether to buy one cos calatheas don't love me back . So far the only calathea that is doing well is my makayona but I'm tempted to buy this after watching your video.
Its good for the soil if you can stand the smell and risk of potential disease. I would also wash my hands thoroughly each time after handling the soil 😌
One of my favorite plant channels. Very informative. What's best is that it gives updates on propagations whether its successful or not.
Thank you 🙏🏽🥺

To my knowlegde, the brown/yellowing tips also is the result of overfertilizing, or hard tapwater, so it's best to use rainwater :)

2. Aroid potting mix

Hopefully it will like my friends house better.
Thank you for the video.
Thank youu. Plants should bring us calm and peace, good call to give it away if its bringing you worry. See if you can get a cutting from your friend though and root it in your place. The cutting may adapt well to your space 😌
I might have overwatered mine :#
Awwww try again! They are stress-free plants that keeps on giving if you adjust the care
Thank you for the video. I'm debating whether to buy one cos calatheas don't love me back . So far the only calathea that is doing well is my makayona but I'm tempted to buy this after watching your video.
This ones easier than the makoyana 😌

Is cow feces not good for soil???
Its good for the soil if you can stand the smell and risk of potential disease. I would also wash my hands thoroughly each time after handling the soil 😌
