  • The Begonia Maculata care tips is one of the most highly requested so far… I explain in great details how to care for them in terms of light, water, pests. I also address fungal and bacterial issues with these plants… They are considered an easy and fast growing plants, although the care does look a little bit different from your other tropical houseplants. I propagate this plant in water and in soil. and then show you guys an update on the cuttings 6 weeks later later.

    I’m so happy you recorded the bad results! Seriously! Because most of the times, plant youtubers tend to only show the good outcomes for propagations and often they don’t work when I do it... and I live in Brazil, so no humidity problems whatsoever 😂😅 yeah, just , GREAT VIDEO!

      Hey Gabriela,
      I have a friend who lives in Brazil too (São Paulo)
      Is what we call it “rare plants” in Europe specially aroids like variegated Adansonii and so on cheap in Brazil for local? I just want to know as he asking me to let him know what I would like to buy... I will be grateful if you reply to my message 🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰

    • @kaanyone
      @kaanyone 3 года назад +1

      @@leilal544 Hi! I'm from brazil too and I can respond your comment even though it passed 5 months. So, no, rare plants here aren't cheap. I've never found variegated adansonii, for example. The variagated deliciosa costs about 1000-2000 reais which is one to two minimum salaries here and about 200 to 400 us dolars. The begonia maculata costs about 120-200 reais (30 to 40 dolars). But the rarest ones are expensive for us.

    You were right about those spots that can occur on the leaf being due to bacterial or fungal... Sometimes I think it's because my collection of begonias grows larger than the space there in because of being overcrowded! So I try to keep the ceiling fan going where my first collection is in the dining area. I noticed a couple plants coming from all three nurseries had signs of either fungal or bacterial on the leaves so what I did is I cut that part of the leaf off because the plants were not that large and I was afraid to cut back on photosynthesis by removing the whole leaf. I didn't spray them I just cut back the leaves and provided good air circulation and the problem cleared up but the problem came from the nursery not from my home.

I decided to see if I could save it as I took it home,trimmed off the dead leaves and browned edges,gave it plenty of water and it's thriving now! In only 4 days it's already sprouted 4 new heads,maybe I just got lucky and ended up getting an easy going one but so far this plant hasn't given me any issues.

    I had one in South Africa that I used to water once a week and it thrived. I am now in Thailand and I am on plant number 4. My first one did well because I had an aircon now I only have a fan and it definitely isn’t the same. So 3 💀 and now with plant number 4 I replanted it immediately after getting it into a different soil than before I took a cutting. No roots yet but also no dead Begonia🤞🏼hopefully this one stays alive because it is really my favourite plant.
    My plant in South Africa used to get black spots, can’t remember what it’s called but Neem oil helps for the fungus

      Hello do check out my video on forest floor potting mix as well as begonia black velvet. I have a feeling they will help address a lot of begonia issues. More to come!

      Theres a video on my channel titled “forest floor potting mix” that explains the ingredients. You can also use whatever you have in your area but do substitute it with amendments like perlite, they really do well when they have airy potting mix that dries up fast

    Wonderful video! Thank you so much. These are on of my favorite plants. I grow them indoors in the South of France as well as the angel wing begonia outside (the one that looks like these but have smaller leaves and pink flowers), and I just started growing them in the Philly USA...and am hopping they do as well as the ones I have in the South! My plant here in the US is new and still small, and I hope it becomes as beautiful as your.
    Thank you again
