>I think this is the best Calathea video on youtube so far! you rock! Agreed - I've been binging all the calathea/maranta/prayer plant videos and realizing how hard it must be to do them, but this one is the best.
you all probably dont care but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me
OMG, this is exactly what I have been looking for! My collection is doing OK but I think with your information I will do much better! Thank you, thank you!
You're THE BEST! Honestly, this Covid thing has made me become OBSESSED with plants and I've watched SO MANY videos. I absolutely LOVE the way you explain everything (and I've had pretty much the exact same issues with my little Marantacaea collection). Please keep giving us more. Sending plant love from Bruxelles. :)
Great video! I would love to see some plant vlogs, if possible. For me, it would be interesting to see how you take care of your plants on a daily basis. Also a fall plant tour would be awesome, too. I hope you will soon be able to mention the fertilizer you use for your prayer plants, I want to try it too.
Thank you for being real and getting down to business! I feel like I always hear don't give too much or too little water. So i appreciate how specific you were!
You finally helped explained an issue I just had with my lancifolia--it put out two leaves a few weeks ago and they are both SO pale, even 5-6 feet from my east window. The only thing I've been able to determine from online research is the light. You're the only RUclips video I've seen that actually mentions this. Further back it goes!
So glad you told me this I thought it was not enough humidity but I was using fridge filter water and now getting those brown tips and a few yellows leaves. I’m still getting new growth. I think it’s my water. I’m gonna get some distilled water from now on.
Best Calathea/Marante video I've ever seen. Thank you for the time, effort (and scientific research) it took to present the facts I've been searching for. Again, thank you! Debs in Everett, WA
Wow, your videos are the best I have found !!!! I recently decided was going to try calatheas again after killing many. I purchased a rattle snake from Planterina (I love her and her plants) with your information I realized I was giving it too much light. Thank you so so much because I was about to give up once again. I found you just in time.
So I am new to your channel, and, although I've been gardening outdoors for some years now, I'm still fairly new to many types of houseplants and especially the more difficult ones like prayer plants. I've been perhaps too fearless though, maybe even reckless for a relative beginner, and I've gone and acquired several calatheas and a couple of stromanthes in just the last three months and I'm mad about each and every one of them, so I really appreciate this video. I totally agree with your other subscribers below, your plants are simply gorgeous and this is an excellent and informative care video (minus, I must add, the coquettishness and drama and underlying commercial motivation you see on other youtube channels) (not naming names here!). Thank you so much! And I don't know how many care videos you've done so far, I'll have to go back and check now, but if you haven't done one on them already, I'd love to see a similar type of video on specific alocasia varieties and their care (I have four of those already too - a Polly, a Black Velvet, a Frydek and a Low Rider/Elephant Ears - and I'm planning on getting a Maharani real soon. There is no help for the suddenly crazy addicted!)
This is the MOST informative video I've ever seen regarding Calathea's plant care. I have 2 already dead (which I think they are, no leaves left but the roots are all good)😓 but not giving up on them. Hopefully they'll get back to life 🙏.
I usually give my maranta filtered water and she loves it… a few days ago I made fertilizer mix with tap water for my other plants and I forgot and gave her some….. aghhhh…. She’s sad now. She was doing so well! I hope she’s just a little sad and then pops back up in a few days!
I just found your channel and I am so happy I did. My rattlesnake calathea was in high light and I just moved it. I was wondering why it was getting lighter. Thank you for your insight.
Great video. I'm interested in changing my water. We've had our tap water tested and have excellent water. We had a salesman actually not sell us something because our water is so good. My calathea are all doing very well on tap water. I've also "rescued" some from big box stores, getting them half off. Which were grown in only coconut husk. I repot within a few days and so far I have had great luck. Maybe I'm just lucky?
I have found your video very informative and delightful. You covered quite a bit of information and I am grateful for you imparting some of your experiences with your plant collection. Thank you.
My brita water pitcher seems to work fine (my water supply is treated with chlorine and is on the softer side) but, that said, everyone's water is different. My humidity is high as I have aquariums (70% and no humidifier needed). My biggest issue is spider mites. If I dont check every couple of weeks and treat with neem based spray, they find their way back. Just found some again on my Maui. I have marantas, stromanthes, ctnanthes, and many different calathea. I found they do much better in higher light than people think. Once I put grow lights up, I started getting lots of new growth. Funny how they behave so differently in different environments. Will not even try a zebrina (and I have a white fusion that is doing great)!
I find they do quite well in low light, but you're so right about the water quality. My Marantas seem to lose their red colouring in the leaf pattern too, but I don't use a humidifier and they're doing fine with no brown tips. It's hit and miss with the larger ones for me, but they're hanging on! I think they do seem to vary a lot and we shouldn't group their care in one way like so many do, that's so true.
Had to "sub" you because this video was a very, very informative one, and I've seen a lot. Still want a White Fusion, though. The Fusion and Stromanthe are on my "10 Most Wanted" list. I don't have any more prime space for either one of them, don't have a humidifier, and I don't have worm castings, YET!! Oh, please do a video on Pepperomias. I had 5 of them, now down to 2. Need to know what can be done. Thanks for great content.
hi, just got a prayer plant today. I got it home then I panicked. what was I thinking. I don't know anything about this plant. looked it up and a few videos came up that where kind of helpful, but I have to say yours was the best. you put my fears to rest, I feel more confident about this plant now. your how too, as well as what to do and don't do. was more then helpful. just had to say thanks for the proper info. wish me luck.
I love the sass with the calathea zebrina! 😂😂 I also have calatheas that are fussy and I do NOT appreciate their attitude (but I still love them). I feel like I need a plant parent support group to deal with them!
This video was so helpful! I really needed this breakdown of each type because I am trying out quite a few Calatheas and I want to be able to put some in different areas of the house with different light. Thanks!
Line by line instructions for each plant. EXCELLENT INFORMATION..couple of questions. Your thoughts on Misting if so what time of day and often to fertilize
I give mine organic worm tea and they LOVE it!!! I also keep all of mine at about 60% humidity except on days it rains (i live in TN) then we get up to around 65%-70%
Finally actual details on the marantas on waterings do u kno how many of these I’ve killed due to overwatering people saying water when soil is 2 inches dry every time of done YELLOW LEAVES EVERY TIME SOMETHING TOLD ME THESE plants were drought tolerant so thank u for this video👍🏾
This was some great content! Just got myself a few calatheas and i have killed 2 prayer plants in the past... so good tips for sure! Can you do a Fiddle Leaf Fig care tip one please? And plant tour and how you organize/decorate your home with them would be awesome too. Thanks!! ~mandy
Make Life Simple I’m glad the video was helpful! Unfortunately I’ve never owned a Fiddle Leaf Fig, otherwise I would definitely make that video. As for the other two suggestions, stay tuned 😎😏
I have a Calathea Lancifolia and a Red Maranta and neither have brown tips, but I also have a spider plant with tons of brown tips lol. Spider plants are definitely a diva imo. 😅
hello there, new subscriber here from Philippines and i really love the video about calatheas best informative video ever I've seen so far. Thank you so much 🙏 ❤️. keep on featuring different plants pkease. Keep safe and God bless 😊🤗
Ok I have to say I’m new to house plants.. this is got to be my favourite plant the prayer plant. I want to have them all.. oh and btw I had to buy the pickiest one of them all! I hope I can keep it alive 😬😬 mine is very small and not as vibrant as the one you showed though. The one I really want now I’m concerned because I can’t keep my house at 65-75% humidity 😬 Also I looove the way you teach ❤️👍🏻 I’m a new subscriber!!!
I can't seem to get my corra to grow or my orbifolia, so sad. You know what I did wrong, I repotted them both shortly after I got them, both from planaterina. I'm so glad that you talked about repotting because that's exactly what I did wrong. Now the good news is that neither are dying at all nor root rot. So I'll just leave them be with getting the humidity they need, distilled water and indirect sunlight. Thank you so much and I've learned my lesson. Note: my other calatheas are thriving including my maranta, none of them did i repot smh at myself
Thank you! I'm using what I thought was filtered water (obviously not by the state of this poor plant) and am killing my new maranta. Changing to distilled water asap!
Thank you. This was very useful - esp. the part on White Fusion. All my calatheas & maranta are doing fine, but the White Fusion... I will definitely try your suggestions.
This was helpful. Could you do other plant care videos? Right now I only keep non-toxic plants due to having a oral sensory child. New plant mom and trying to absorb everything I can
Super info and great presentation, thanks! Just one suggestion: If you wear a plain coloured shirt it will be easier for us to make out the leaf pattern of the plants, as you are sitting right behind them. Looking forward to more of your videos. :)
Needed this video! I thought all prayer plants could take the same care, but my maranta kerchoveana and calathea orbifolia started yellowing when I move them to lower light. Everything you said makes sense. Only my rattlesnake calathea enjoys low light.
great video! I ended up tossing my white fusion after it got spidermites for the 3rd time i had it for 8 months and found it easy at the start but it was just a spidermite magnet for me they are so beautiful though and it turned me off calathea. This video make me want to try a different species as i have a beautiful triostar and maranta who are thriving. thanks for the extremely helpful tips :)
lol this is realll late to add but i have only 2 prayer plants in my collection, and have never had any problems with them. I was so worried abt how fussy they were but i found out real quick that they love distilled water and will let you know when to water. the moment the leaves curl, i wait a day and water, like i drench it lol. i love these plants
Amazing video! Im about to re arrange all my prayer plants now lol. Also, I’m not sure this is a good thing but I now want to add the white fusion to my wishlist again 👀
I heard another plant pro recommend “Easypeasy” liquid organic fertilizer. I’m on my third bottle and my PLANTS and I LOVE IT !!!!! Available on Amazon.
I say my red maranta and I have a love hate relationship. I love it. It hates me. Your collection is plant goals. Can't wait to get more plants that hate me. Lol! 😂
😂😂 "and I do not appritate it"... U crack me up.... Yup, these plants are not for me being a new plant mom lol.. they are soo beautiful tho. Maybe one day
I have been using water from my dehumidifier and they seem to dig that! Humidifier upstairs with the plants, dehumider in the basement laundry room, but it seems to work 🤷♀️
Julie Robinson If I had a dehumidifier I would probably try it! But I have way too many humidity loving plants to ever use a dehumidifier. Plus I don't have an attic or basement unfortunately.
I use a dehumidifier in my basement in the summer. I use the recycled water for my prayer plants who live in my large bathroom upstairs. It seems to be OK so far - can't be too much different from distilled.
I have had Marantas get brown tips if the soil dries all the way. The roots cannot tolerate chemical fertilizer or even water that is very hard. I use reverse osmosis water or even distilled water. They love worm castings in the soil and will grow happily with it. I would not use any other on them.
Please do a video on hypoestes care!! Mine has died back with yellow crispy brown edges but the new growth is small and has less pink spots so I’m confused on whether is is getting too much or too little light. I think it was acclimating. Please help! Thanks!
like everyone is saying, this videos seems to be the best calathea care video. So tyyy! buuut any tips for a calathea ornata? I feel like that's the most fussy >_
Celina P thank you! And honestly I let mine die because they’re fussy! They like medium light but prefer a green house setting so the only way to keep them from dying is putting it in a glass container.
Thanks for your videos (finally RUclips recommended something new, I'm subscribing!) My calathea ornata is not closing up and the tips are curling (not browning), I think the planter is too big for it and it just won't dry (it has been 2 weeks and its still very moist) and the soil is FULL of springtails and I don't know what to do cause I don't want to shock it by repoting it or wait till is completely dry to kill the springtails , help PLZ :'(
Also I’ve only had my Calethea since about August so I have not bought any fertilizer as I live in Canada on the west coast so like we are entering the dark rainy cold season .. should I actually fertilize Calethea in the winter season
Plant My Happy Space - HELP??!! I got a Red Maranta from my aunt's funeral. I repotted it and now the leaves won't open up. They're curled up. 😩 The leaves are not browning. Can you please give me some advice?? 🙏 Thank you in advance!
Do you know if th calathea leopardina has a similar care to the zebrina? Since their leaf color and thickness is so similar This is such a good video, thank you so much!
I think this is the best Calathea video on youtube so far! you rock!
E z thank you! I’m glad you liked it! YOU rock!
>I think this is the best Calathea video on youtube so far! you rock!
Agreed - I've been binging all the calathea/maranta/prayer plant videos and realizing how hard it must be to do them, but this one is the best.
I've seen every calathea video and this has to be the most informative and straight to the point. Love it
Josette Roberts thank you! I’m glad it was helpful!
Agreed
Agree! I know each Calathea can't be exactly the same, so this was great!
you all probably dont care but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Walter Valentin Instablaster :)
OMG, this is exactly what I have been looking for! My collection is doing OK but I think with your information I will do much better! Thank you, thank you!
This is the nest calthea care video. I've saved it and making note. Thank you very much! I can't wait to try it all out

Thanks ! Just starting with my Calathea. Of course I got the fussiest one !! I think I’m getting the hang of it. Thank you! Very helpful!!

I really appreciate your attention to detail. I second the motion, you rock!
So glad you told me this I thought it was not enough humidity but I was using fridge filter water and now getting those brown tips and a few yellows leaves. I’m still getting new growth. I think it’s my water. I’m gonna get some distilled water from now on.
Wonderful, in-depth, informative review. And, you're hilarious! Your video gave me hope on my 1st ever Calathea. Hoping for the best 🙏🏽
Best Calathea/Marante video I've ever seen. Thank you for the time, effort (and scientific research) it took to present the facts I've been searching for. Again, thank you! Debs in Everett, WA
you can cut the brown tips off in the shape of the leaf and you can't even tell! It doesn't brown after on the edge either. It looks real healthy
Wow, your videos are the best I have found !!!! I recently decided was going to try calatheas again after killing many. Best video on calathea as everyone commented , especially I loved the lighting part.

Had to "sub" you because this video was a very, very informative one, and I've seen a lot. Still want a White Fusion, though. The Fusion and Stromanthe are on my "10 Most Wanted" list. Love your video ❤️So informative and helpful - really appreciate the details about each type of calathea. Thank you 🙏 💕
dangitmelinda I’m glad the video was helpful! 😊
I come back and refer to this video whenever I get a new Calathea! Thanks for making it 😎
Beautiful plants! Wonderful video!
Beautiful collection and very informative!
hi, just got a prayer plant today.
This was the best video on caletheas that I've seen, and I've seen a lot. Thanks!
U D thank you!!
Wow great experience information thanks so much. I totally agree with the medallion, once it acclimates to your home you’re good
I must have watched every video on youtube... This video is the most informative!!! 👍👍👍💚

Make Life Simple I’m glad the video was helpful! Unfortunately I’ve never owned a Fiddle Leaf Fig, otherwise I would definitely make that video. As for the other two suggestions, stay tuned 😎😏
So informative! Thanks! 🌱👏🏽
Thank you for the water tip. Most people make us think that we must have humidifiers.
HeartsandThings I’m glad the video was helpful! 😊
Awesome tips! Thanks for sharing

The best Calathea video, thanks dear it is so helpful
You helped me soon much! A big plants thank you!

like everyone is saying, this videos seems to be the best calathea care video. So tyyy! buuut any tips for a calathea ornata? I feel like that's the most fussy >_
Celina P thank you! And honestly I let mine die because they’re fussy! They like medium light but prefer a green house setting so the only way to keep them from dying is putting it in a glass container.
This was sooooooo AWESOME 😎 thank you so much
Hope to see videos about philodendrons 😊
Informative and funny. Very helpful
Very good information
Thanks for your videos (finally RUclips recommended something new, I'm subscribing!) My calathea ornata is not closing up and the tips are curling (not browning), I think the planter is too big for it and it just won't dry (it has been 2 weeks and its still very moist) and the soil is FULL of springtails and I don't know what to do cause I don't want to shock it by repoting it or wait till is completely dry to kill the springtails , help PLZ :'(
I just got mine last week and a few come tomorrow.
My question is, how can you measure the amount of humidity
Beautiful plants
ToatbreadProductions thank you!
Also I’ve only had my Calethea since about August so I have not bought any fertilizer as I live in Canada on the west coast so like we are entering the dark rainy cold season .. should I actually fertilize Calethea in the winter season
Very informative video 🤗😍😘
Thank you for great tips
If you don’t repot to a larger pot should you change out the soil every couple years?
