Thank you for your in depth video. I was gifted a Calathea about a month or 2 ago and it’s not going well. The leaves are yellowing and keep dying. I keep it humid and watered, but noticed the soil feels more wet on the bottom many days after watering and the top is more dry. I think it needs repotted with more well draining soil.
I'm a new subscriber. I bought a very small Calathea about 3 months ago and put it in direct sunlight in the south facing window. No problem, and it has doubled in size and volume. After watching your video I have moved it to a space 4 metres away from the window, with a saucer with water underneath it. It does seem happier, still no browning of the leaves or any problems. its leaves now point to the heavens, but it looks like your large Calathea does the same thing. Hope this is a good sign.

I got my 2 months ago and started seeing dry curly brown edges on leaves. I’ve been watering it with filtered water and have humidifier next to it. Yesterday, a local nursery associate recommended epsom salt. She said since I only gave the plant water, there’s lack of nutrients. I was hesitant. Like to hear your opinion on this.
So far we’re going on 3 months and we’re still alive. We are situated in the bathroom and using distilled water. It’s winter so mostly overcast days. Fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed!!!
Excellent and helpful. Now four of my prayers are from division in 4inch pots(I gave the mother plants to my Mother) and 1 is a leave in water which now I know is a waste of time. O no, down a purple medallion plant already. lol Question: What number on the moisture meter are we talking about Rich? Love and Peace.
I’ve had a rattlesnake calathea for two years and only just started getting browning leaves because it’s winter and the house is extremely dry. I’ve started spraying the leaves with water since I don’t have a humidifier.
Oh, no, be careful! Calatheas (and Alocasias) need AIR humidity, but get sick when there's moisture on the leaves too often or too long. You can very easily kill your rattlesnake by misting it and making it vulnerable to fungus-bacteria-rot-gnats. A very large pebble tray would be a preferable measure, as would be bringing your Calathea to the bathroom when you take a shower and leaving it there for a couple of hours afterward. Another thing you could try--if a proper humidifier is out of the question--is raising the thermostat by a few degrees since warmer air holds better to humidity. Even a tabletop fountain or an electronic mister (the kind sold for essential oils) placed nearby would be better than wetting the leaves.
@@irairod5160 believe me I don’t have to worry about fungus because it’s winter here and the air is dry as a bone due to heaters running. The leaves dry off very quickly and imo it looks like the moisture has been helping. If they start looking worse I’ll stop but for now it’s what I’m trying.

I don’t blame you to be fair 😂
@@SheffieldMadePlants 🤣🤣🤣🤣✌️
I’ve been misting my calathea cuz that’s what this app has been telling me, I’m a beginner 😢
Yeah I wouldn’t bother 😬
Are you OK Mr. Sheffield? Looks like Calathea‘s are making you very unhappy
Rid of fungus Natstell me how please
Nematodes
Why is half of my plant not closing up at night?
Really not sure.
What does it mean when my plant leaves are browned on the middle of the leaves? Halp! 😒
Are they spots? Could be a disease or pests…
Mine too and there are no pests. I’ve watched tons of calathea videos and they all only talk about browning edges and tips never middles. Could it be forced air heating draft or morning sun in east window?
@@ladyelainefairchild3546 I have no clue. Mine is a hot mess now and nothing like the plant I brought home: I feel bad. Mine has been in a west facing window, just back a bit. I too have forced air and am in Milwaukee Wisconsin, so it’s COLD here! I won’t be getting that plant again! 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️😁
May i ask if this happened mostly to the new growth and it has paper structure and thinner than the older foliage?
Quite a bit less dynamic (and a bit more hair! 😁) than in your more recent videos. Maybe your need to re-do this one 🙃
❤❤❤
You sound like something is troubling you in this video, were you doing ok?
