I picked up the c9 dirty cheap from a friend in need of some cash. I had very low expectations but after shooting it I actually didn’t hate it. For some reason my wife loves it and she had to get her very own pink camo version. She isn’t really a fan of guns so I was thrilled she would shoot it and was decent with it. Last year a guy tried to mug her outside her office and she pulled the gun he charged her and she dropped him. The guy ended up living due to the ambulance being next door at Taco Bell. But I’m grateful for the c9 because the guy was later connected to 3 robberies and 2 rapes. It saved her life!!!

I never shot one but because of the heavy slide the recoil impulse is mild. I guess that is what your wife likes. They came up with a 10mm and the reviewer all they, that its the softest shooting 10mm. No wonder with that big heavy slide.

    • @curtk8130
      @curtk8130 Год назад +4

@@Gieszkanne the slide is a nice chunk on metal. I have put a few hundred rounds through it without issue. My wife’s is the same with probably much less use though. If someone needs something to protect their house and it’s all you can afford it’s probably fine but if you want a workhorse at the range it will probably eventually give you issues. I personally carry my mp 9c but if the c9 was all I had I’d be fairly confident in it. Definitely shot worse.

@@davidmarks5400 I agree! The guy was very lucky to survive. If the ambulance hadn’t been within a few minutes away he probably wouldn’t. That and several hours of surgery. The only good thing is he lived to face justice for his crimes. In other good news my wife has since upgraded to a p365x so she is actually better prepared.

I have both the c9 9mm and the JHP 45. They are reliable. I paid $179 for the C9 and $189 for my JHP. I love them both! From my experience I have had no more issues with my Hi Points than any other gun I’ve owned or shot. Hi Points are reliable ,safe budget guns. They are budget guns for a reason. They are simply made without all the bells and whistles but they get the job done! For all the higher end guns out there, Hi point is not the only one that requires a punch to disassemble. With the way the world being so crazy, if some one is on a tight budget, I’d rather see them purchase a Hi point for protection for now vs going without. Besides, the whole reason Pi Point was founded was so any and everyone who wanted or needed a firearm for protection could have that option regardless of finances. Myself, I’m not limited to simply having to buy a Hi Point, but I understand the value they have to offer and respect Hi Point for what they are! Hi Points have a lifetime warranty and are made in America! Their customer service to me has been nothing less than 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️! What I like best about the company is that they provide affordable 2A availability to everyone that wants and needs it. For that, Hi Point has my respect!

The C9 is great for what it is. It's a reliable budget gun (I payed about $115 brand new about 14 years ago), that is better than having nothing. If you minimally take care of it, it'll take care of you. Also, if you run out of ammo you can beat your enemy to death with it.
I would recommend polishing the feedramp with with 600 to 1200 grit sandpaper to get rid of the paint on it it that may cause feeding issues on brand new pistols. That would save you about 200 rounds in breaking it in.

I have the predecessor of the Model C9, the Model C with fixed sights molded directly into the slide. I bought it for under $100 used and it's one of my most accurate pistols. I concur, it isn't going to win any beauty contests but that isn't what it is for. Hi-points are decent for what they are, a low cost, affordable pistol that a working person can buy. They even come with a lifetime forever warranty so anytime you have an issue with it or even if you have a major malfunction, (IE a round explodes in it, the barrel has an obstruction and bulges out) you can send back to Hi-point for repair and servicing. Try different magazines, Hi-point also makes a 10 round magazine for their pistols. Also, if the sights aren't to your liking, train painting them yourself, I upgraded my 1911 with night sight paint that glows after hitting it with a flashlight and glows for about an hour or so afterwards. It also has a hi-viz, fluorescent component as well so they are fairly visible in daylight as well. Overall, an informative video. ^_^

The mag lock out bar can be easily removed for "cleaning" from under the right grip panel.
Be mindful of some small springs and the trigger linkage.
I will always have at least a couple "useful IS as useful DOES" Hi-Point's in my collection.
I don't have a c9 or any 9mm defensive tools at this time.
My favourite is the 4595ts 45acp Carbine and it's companion jhp45.
Never had an issue with the full size or large calibers.
The feed guides at the top of the mag are adjustable on purpose if needed.
Too loose..nose up and double feed jams.
Too tight..nose down jams first few rounds.
Off center.. You be the judge jams.
They tend to get banged around...it's not rocket surgery...adjust them.
Then slap em against your palm to seat the rounds and slap check it into the gripwell.
At it's working distances there is nothing in the safe more capable, more accurate, or more fun than the 4595ts Carbine.
Right next to the 223 modern muskets.

Another interesting low cost option is the Kel-Tec P17. It is .22LR instead of 9mm but it is 16+1, includes a total of three magazines, and is very light. The unique slide design also makes it less susceptible to being put out of battery by contact of the muzzle with an opponent. It is fully ambi for lefties or if one were injured.
Only a 22 but there are some much improved defense loads available these days.

I got it to carry when I'm hiking in the woods and would rather beat up a cheap gun than the one I used to take along. I've never had a misfeed--including hollow points. It's ugly---but it works and I think I paid about $120 when I bought it. Hard to beat for something that might get scratched up and dropped now and then. I'm not as accurate shooting it compared to any of my other pistols---oh well.

Magazine disconnects truly suck, I though they were a thing of the past. But I guess it can be deactivated quite easily. I don't find it that ugly, no more than Glocks at least, but that of course is a matter of taste. If I lived in a country where I was permitted by law (or needed to, I live in Finland and things like home invasions or carjackings are practically nonexistent here) have guns at hand just in case in places like the glove compartment of a car or a night stand drawer I might well buy a couple of these. In a self defense situation you're not likely to need lots of rounds, most likely situations can be solved with just a couple. And if you expect to end up in a gun fight you'll carry a long gun instead or in addition to a pistol anyway.
For everyday carrying on person (again if permitted and necessary to me) I'd obviously select something much more compact and lighter and for sport shooting something with more capacity (i currently use a Glock 19 pro for SRA shooting) but for self defense if you don't need to carry the gun around one of these would be a good option.

Hi-Point magazines are kind of notorious for having quality control issues Especially the earlier ones. pre-2010 mags were complete garbage. but nowdays you'll most likely get a good one.
plus they are +P rated. usually Hi-Points will cycle better with those. just remember not to shoot them too often and if you do check the slide for signs of stress.

I'm hopefully adding a C9 to my collection soon. I already have a nice Kahr 9mm handgun for EDC but I've always had an attraction to those clunky little Hi Point guns. I got to mess with one as a teenager and I didn't love it but it's not a horrid gun. I'm mostly just getting one to have something different without having to save up and since I already have a ton of 9mm, the C9 was an easy option. Clunky? Sure. Not well liked? Oh yeah. But everything I've seen about the C9 shows it can be a little trooper, plus being a broke young man, adding a third gun to my collection of obscure guns is more than enough justification to put down the $130 or so on it. Nice video on the gun, my friend.

People pretend to hate Hipoint to sound cool, but the truth is you will literally not find a more reliable bang for your buck and it's an excellent starter for the budget conscious. I own two both used and after a decent cleaning I've had very few problems. Because they're cheap and surprisingly sturdy I don't feel bad punishing them at the range or in the backcountry with round after round, and their excellent customer service line means that when I have had a problem they have sent me replacement parts no questions asked. Honestly, my only complaint is that the magazine isn't competitive with other 9 mm like the SCCY (bleh) or Glock when it comes to capacity. If it was I think more people would carry them, but when the magazine it comes with is only 8+1 that's not gonna be my first choice in a defense situation. I think some third parties have larger magazines but all the reviews for third party Hipoint mags I've seen are terrible, somebody needs to make a decent 15 round mag at least to be competitive with Glocks.
