  • If you know me, or have been watching my videos for a while, then you know I'm into quite a variety of different things, and am always getting into new stuff (hence Phil's Next Kick). Today I switch it up a bit from Trading Cards to cleaning my pistol. It's fairly quick and easy, and it's actually one of my favorite part of owning guns.
    Here's a link to the cleaning kit I used - amzn.to/3vCQnKL
    If you enjoyed this video, please consider giving it a like, and if you want to keep up with the new videos I have coming out, definitely click that subscribe button!
    One more thing, if you want to see my review of this gun, comment below and let me know!

    One of the best step by step cleaning videos. I bought a new Taurus and by following this video was able to break it down and clean it and put it back together perfectly. Thanks so much.

    For people who are new to cleaning, Ballistol (its non-toxic, spray or liquid) and a toothbrush to scrub it down. You can skip all the wiping by then spraying it clean with Gun Scrubber by Birchwood Casey. Dries in 15 seconds. No residue. Hoppes Oil is good when you need the oil to seep and spread. Gun Butter is a red oil that is good when you need the oil to stay put.

    First let me say, I love this gun. It's got a great "feel" it ergonomically, well balanced with no "catchy " edges to hang on clothing . I have carried it concealed for over 3 years and have run easily over 2500 rnds thru it. NOT ONE failure to fire! I've had 3-4 bad primers. (I run some real trash thru it) The finish is starting to wear a bit, bun man, what a great little weapon! I'm a shocked that this guy can offer a valued opinion of a gun, as it's his first gun and he has shot it twice, but he accidentally happens to be correct. I'd compare it to a glockenspiel 19 with the difference is that you don't cry when someone steals a $200 gun from you car as to a $600 Glock. This gun is a winner!

      Rene Saldivar might be rust or possibly corrosion. Try cleaning it again, and if it doesn’t go away take it to a gunsmith

    Into knitting and crochet? Not so sure about that as a very compatible pastime for gun enthusiasts...but I guess to each his own. Only been out TWICE to shoot the fantastic Millennium G2? What! It's so hard to put my G2 down, as this is one sweet little pistol for the money. Taurus has done so many things right with this gun, starting with an awesome price point. Phil, buy yourself a half dozen boxes of decent target round ammo for this gun and go have a blast at the range one day soon. After you get the feel of shooting this baby, you won't be able to stop shooting it.....and of course that leads to cleaning, which I might add is super critical for this...or any....handgun to keep it in top shooting form.
    I bought my Taurus G2 purely to be a "disposable" gun that I didn't have to worry about it getting beat up in every day carry or simply getting stolen or lost. I've got nicer, more expensive guns that I want to keep locked up and hidden away but what good is a self defense gun you don't carry? If I do ever have to use this gun for self defense and shoot someone, the police may never give it back to me. I don't really care if they keep it forever as it will have served its purpose but I would hate to have them keep some of my finer guns.
    With a13 shot capacity that isn't a burden to EDC, and a second magazine with 12 more backing it up on my weak side, this gun gives you a feeling of being adequately armed for the average self defense situation. If you don't own one, get one! Keep it clean like this video shows and it will work well for you for a long, long time.

    I've been shooting for about 30 years now. Bought a PT111 based on past experience with Taurus. The g2 gets a bad rap, because of the g1. this is a nice little firearm, that is one of the most accurate that I own. I just wanted to see how someone else cleans it, because you can always pick up some tips. Thanks! I'll look for your wife's MP shield video, as well. That's my wife's gun.

    I have this gun . Love it in the the hand, feels great, works flawlessly. A couple of tips on cleaning. First, I always put a clean cotton cloth underneath before starting. Sometimes I wear nitrile gloves if I am going to be in direct contact with the solvent for extended periods, but that's just me. Secondly, an old toothbrush works great for hard to reach areas. I also employ pipe cleaners. I pour a small amount of hoppes in a shallow cup and dip the brush lightly in the hoppes. That gets just the right amount of cleaner. Scrub a little, use another clean towel to wipe. This method always works well. Nice video. Props.

    Phil: First, I can see that the large (outer) recoil spring is starting to walk over the front flange of the outer guide rod. You can have a gun smith flatten the last wrap of the recoil spring and this problem will stop. (try to balance one ball on top of another, or one pipe on top of another. One will be displaced. Same with round wire.) Second, Nick Navarre is correct, use a tooth brush to scrub the internal parts especially behind the extractor. I use Carb. cleaner on ours but I clean a lot of guns every other month. Third, I use synthetic lubricants because they don't evaporate like petroleum products. Good video.

    • @PhilsNextKick
      @PhilsNextKick  7 лет назад +6

      Thanks for pointing that out. I had head that the recoil spring would more than likely eventually do that because Taurus doesn't flatten the end of the spring, and I've been planning on replacing it with the stainless steel version that Lakeline sells, I just haven't been able to get one yet. I don't shoot a lot though, so I'm hoping it will cooperate and not screw up on me, lol. I did get a toothbrush to use when cleaning now, but I didn't realize that about the lubricants, thanks for letting me know!

    • @tomn5880
      @tomn5880 7 лет назад +3

      Nick: If you can, disassemble the recoil assembly and remove the bigger spring. Use an 1/8th inch piece of steel and twist the end of the spring onto the steel so that you can hammer the last half of the end winding flat. That will stop the tendency of the spring to jump the flange. Do both ends, then re assemble.

      they make upgraded guide rods for that firearm. I upgraded mine. its all metal. the plastic ends are known to fail. all I did with mine is the guide rod upgrade and that's all. I love the pt111

    I have the P111 Millennium G2 and I love it. Your cleaning video helped quite a bit since I forget how to take the slide off, anyway, as you said you were not sure how accurate this gun is...for me it is very accurate, the only problem I've had with it is when I first shot it, it would jam every 10th or 11th round...Clear it and back to shooting. It would do it every 2-3 mags I put in it. It still does it once every 10 mag I put through it.

    Don't feel bad. I have a lot of hobbies as well. I am mainly a clock watch smith, I also collect antique clocks and old rare pocket watches etc. I have over three hundred clocks alone in my collection. I also collect guns other antiques, comic books cards, cars "vintage like my 69 camero and my 73 VW bus. I also have a few other cars including a G35 that I am fully restoring." I also collect antique rare tribal mask and other creepy custom made werewolf and demon mask. I also collect old little wood carved animals. There are so many other hobbies I am into that I could go on and on in detail for hours. But I won't lol! Taurus in my opinion is one of the best gun makers out there! Don't care what others think! They are great guns and out of my collection, I have never had any issues with any! and I mean ANY! Of my Tauruses! I have had issues with one of my colts, I have had issues with a could of S$W's. But I have NEVER had an issue with a Taurus! Everyone thinks they are a pro at guns and thinks they know more than anyone else... That is bullshit and like myself, I wouldn't listen to idiots like that! They only go by what they read. I go by experience!!!! MANY YEARS OF IT! Anyways I just got the same gun a couple of month ago for $80 from a store owner who gave me a great deal on mine only because I fix some of the watches and clocks they get into their shop. Great gun! As good as my 40 cal Taurus! Love it!

    People have blamed Taurus guns not because the guns can't be trusted, but more because of poor customer service. Yes, Taurus had some past issues , but I have been carrying and shooting Taurus pistols since 2002 - no issues ! I also love their big revolvers. I purchased a 5" 454 revolver in 2002 and it is a fantastic gun. I have owned Glock, Beretta, Sig , Smith , Ruger and Kahr 9mm pistols and all of them, I think the pt 111 g2 handles 9mm flip, rise and recoil the best. It isn't as smooth as Sig or accurate as a Glock but it seems the most " suitable " overall. It takes practice to get used to the trigger but mine shoots whenever I pull the trigger. I think they are great little , concealable pistols and accurate enough for most shooters !

    I have this gun and carry daily for years now. I have had several Taurus guns over the years this one in particular is one of my favorites and I also carry from time to time the Taurus 357 revolver. My opinion Taurus makes a very good firearm and out of my collection of guns only one of them is not a Taurus and that is the Smith & Wesson shield MP40 and that is another very good carry gun.

    I bought this gun because i found it fir $179 on deguns last week. When I pull it out of the box and dry fired it I thought it was the worst trigger I have ever tried in my life. It had a wonky trigger that I could not stand and it made a noise like an airsoft gun. I took it to the range shot 500 rounds through it and it was the best I've shot any gun. I was unbelievably surprised and I am a huge fan of it now first impressions are not everything it is a great shooting gun

    • @PhilsNextKick
      @PhilsNextKick  6 лет назад

      When you lock the slide back the barrel will be loose. That's normal and nothing to worry about!

  • @BamaChad-W4CHD
    @BamaChad-W4CHD 2 года назад

    I'm quite late to this party but wanted to comment. The only thing I actually use the little pad cleaning patches for is the inside of the barrel. I put the solvent bore cleaner (kinda smells like banana) on them and run a few through the barrel. After that I run patches through the barrel until they no longer come out black or clean of trash. Then I run a patch or two through with oil on them.. You should always make sure all of the solvent is cleaned from the gun. It's corrosive as it's made to eat lead and copper fouling. Clean the slide and other stuff with paper towels to save a little money on cleaning patches. I rarely if ever use the solvent on the outside of the gun. I will use it to get rid of a carbon build up that is stubborn. Just always make sure to clean the solvent off completely. Then rub it all down with gun oil or whatever you decide to use. Of course at the end like you did you want to oil friction spots as needed. I learned from my grandfather to keep an oil soaked rag around for occasional wipe downs when needed. My last one was just a microfiber cloth drenched in hoppes oil. I have a few of those in baggies in my range bag and backpacks.

      There are so many different brands.
      He's using Hoppe's gun bore cleaner and Hoppe's lubricating oil.
      It really doesn't matter what brand.
      You can usually buy a whole kit at Bass Pro, Kabelas...sometimes even Walmart for pretty cheap.
      I usually just cut up an old tee shirt into small squares to clean with.
      Hopes this helps a little.
      There are hundreds of RUclips videos on this process, and so many different ways people do it.

    Wear latex gloves. You don't want the chemicals on your hands... Use Q-tips for those tight spots.

    • @traxxasbro5604
      @traxxasbro5604 5 лет назад +30

      Don’t wear latex gloves if you’re worried about chemical exposure. Nitrile gloves are far better and won’t leave a powder residue that could gunk up your firearm. Typically, gun cleaning solvents and oils are not harmful when in contact with human skin, but it’s never a bad idea to wear a pair of nitrile gloves when working with any type of chemical or solvent.

    I suggest a more modern cleaner. Something with a sprayer. So you can get coverage in all the nooks and crannies in the frame. Also a brush that can get in the hard to reach areas. Modern guns have more hard to reach areas than older guns.

      @PhilsNextKick  7 лет назад +1

    When you twist the cleaning rod in the barrel the rifling stays dirty. Rather allow the cleaning rod to turn on its own and follow the rifling by holding it loosely. It should turn about 1/2t
