Thomas Camacho I’m looking into getting a hand gun (my first ). I turn 21 soon... and I’ve been looking into this particular gun. Would you recommend it?

@@dakotahf I just realized i actually have the .40cal shield, not the 9mm. mine was also used but I cleaned/oiled and shot it once so far. It was loud af but it i can see myself getting used to the power. although since I just recently educated myself on what caliber means vs. mm in guns, i should of started with the S&W 9mm shield because that has less power than the .40cal. eitherway, im glad I got a gun that most people are reviewing highly of. I actually bought the performance shield today as well. It is .40cal too. Again, im still a novice but ive been reading and practicing handling the gun and I wanted two guns, one for concealed carry and one to be at my house. For recommendation, I would say go for it because Ive read good things about this gun. Before I irrationally bought the performance shield today, I was looking into glocks and in the store they showed me this really nice glock (i forgot what caliber/mm it was) but it fit nice and the gun was so clean looking.

@@dakotahf To answer your question yes I would recommend this, I just turned 21 and its my first hand gun. Shoots very accurately and has a great feel to it. Also its a great gun to be used with a conceal and carry permit. Very compact. Also the gun comes with two mags so its a pretty good deal. If you look around you will notice this is one of the top guns to buy anyway so yea its a good gun would recommend.

I've got a 9mm, and a 40.cal. Just remember.... IT WILL FIRE WITH THE MAGAZINE OUT, AND A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER!!! Be careful with that sucker, and ALWAYS check to be sure that the weapon is cleared before you go screwing around with it. It just takes a second. Nice selection for a first time owner Shields are the bomb.

Good video. Only one recommendation: after pulling the slide back, and locking it in place, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to lower the yellow seer deactivation lever. The seer deactivation lever that Smith & Wesson is implemented in their M&P Shields is a lever that is used to deactivate the trigger. Then rotate your takedown lever 90-degrees. release slide, and then you can pull off the frame without pulling the trigger. Doing it this way reduces wear on the trigger mechanism.

@Les Deffner could the sear deactivation lever be a later model upgrade from S&W? Maybe author’s gun does not have it thus needing to pull trigger. We do it all the time on Glocks. I tried to look at video, I don’t see the lever.

If you don’t feel like pulling the trigger, you can always move the yellow lever to the down position when slide is locked back. Then pull slide back and unlock it and bring the slide in the battery position and it’ll continue to slide forward.

Good vid, one exception, you do NOT have to pull the trigger to remove the slide. With slide locked back, pull the slide release lever down, then grab the slide and pull to the rear (with the sear lever down) and the slide comes off. Without pulling the trigger.

    • @withfishes

with this video i just found out about the unlocking the slide and pulling the trigger. Seems much easier but is a bit more nerve racking if someone sees you doing it. I have to field strip for my CCW test. I'm going to find out what my instructor says about the 'pulling the trigger' during the field strip. I don't think he'd appreciate it too much. especially since its at the range.

Read the manual, use only 1 small drop of oil at ALL 7 designated locations, 2 on the barrel, the four rail slides and a very light touch of oil on the trigger bar were it touches the striker safety and the seer. Too much oil will leave you gun a mess and will collect/attract dirt that can/will foul your gun. Also you gun may be equipped with a little yellow lever that you push down to release the seer so that you don't have to pull the trigger to release the slide for cleaning. It is outlined in your manual, if you don't have the manual you can download it at the Smith&Wesson site, or call the customer service number (they are very responsive). It is a great way to prevent accidental discharges and worth getting in the habit of using if you have it. Also use a brass wire brush to clean the barrel, it will get to both the surface and the groves. If you don't have a cleaning kit, you can get one at Walmart for 10 bucks, well worth it. They also have cleaning patches and Hoppes solvent and oil. Good luck.

Nice video. I have a shield 9mm. The slide lock was a pain but working well now. The release lever was hell but also working well now. Bought mine two weeks before the rebate started. Yeah a little disappointed about missing out on the rebate. I wouldn't of bought the gun unless I thought it would work well for me. Love it. Also my carry. Thanks and take care.

So far I think the Shield is a great gun too, and I've noticed the more we shoot it the easier the the slide lock and release lever get. I figured it was just because it needed to be "broken in" or something like that. Thanks for watching!

Getting this as my first gun in 4 days, saved it to come back to. Unfortunately I am in CA so I gotta do some trickery to get the slide off but I saved those videos too. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to being part of the club!

I also have the same weapon. Only thing I've changed is to a higher capacity clip for a better grip. These are amazingly accurate weapons fresh out of the box.

This method works on the full line. I usually use a tool and pres down the pin on the inside and manually slide it off. Recently had an issue where a slide did not want to release, tried this method and it worked.

GREAT!!! I work for a security company and will be taking my advance gun class for conceal and carry permit. I don’t know if it’s part of my testing but I wanted to know before I took the class how to break it down clean it and put it back together. Your video was exactly what I needed. I am no stranger to a gun and I am a pretty decent shooter but one thing I have never had to do is clean it. So thank you very much for all of your help!!!

I'm with you on this one brother after taking my 9mmm shield to the range everybody was down talking my gun calling it a toy cuz they all had their forties 45 caliber but hey I'll tell you what at the 15-yard line I was the only one that keep hitting center-mass everyone else was just shooting all over the place cuz they couldn't even control The Recoil of their gun I'd love the 9 millimeter Shield I use it for security work everyday I trust this gun with my life!
