Good tips there. I've just bought 2 of those flashing beacons/lights that are supposed to be required in Spain next year. We have our jack, we bought a bigger/longer socket extension handle, and we have our jack. The spare on our Rapido is under the body and not that easy to lower, but it is doable. Need now to do some exercises to be strong enough to crack the wheel nuts.
Still reading those Bord Atlas books - so much ingo.

As an ex Highways traffic officer I used to dread holiday seasons. Let’s start with caravans, I’ve had drivers assume their car Jack, wheel race for their car will fit their caravan wheel, even the depth if the access to the nut can be different, ie needs a longer socket.
The assumption that a tyre that has only done 1000 miles in 5 yrs is good, having been sat static in a storage yard throughout heat, cold, and that the walls are showing cracks.
Both motorhomes/caravans travelling with gas turned on, having a blow out, and when we’ve turned up, smell gas, then showing them where the gas line, and electrics run, over the wheel arch that’s been destroyed.
I did a vehicle check one day with the police, and caravan club reps, oh dear we had passengers in the towed caravan, asleep, when out on the scales overweight, poorly distributed. We’ve had the wife cooking as she’s been towed along.
Caravan accidents, not knowing how to drive whilst towing, no safety brake cable attached in case if being decoupled.
Why don’t people if in doubt go to a tyre garage, get their tyres, wheels, and brakes, suspension {socks} checked at the very least.
Then the best part, recovery when tow car packs up, but they are using the banks recovery, only to find caravan not covered.
Or that they have failed to tell the breakdown when applying the length, weight, as you know anything over length needs a specific recovery truck.
As for gunk, too many instances of like you say, blown side walks.
As for tyre changes, had too many not knowing how to do it, no recovery, so get a roadside lesson in how to, or expense of paying for recovery. From simple things like carrying a carpet square to protect your knees, clothes, disposable gloves, an extending wheel brace for those with less strength, a proper socket. High viz bib/ jacket as more and more unlit motorways, dual carriageways.
Last thing, know where you are, how to use math=jer posts on a road if available, ie. 15/2 M5B, which means you are 15.2 kilometres on the motorway heading towards The start of the Motorway, and they can a certain you are between junction 4 and 3, heading north.

All good advice. The problem is that as the younger generations become drivers they have never experienced changing a tyre or jacking up a vehicle. The youngsters have been dumbed down . My lyseo harmony line spare is under the floor. How did you lower it down? ( only had mine 2 months).
