Glad your both home safely, we use to have a family light haulage business, we ran Ford , Mercedes and Iveco , all of our sprinters failed on turbos and injectors between 50000-100000 plus sensors going monthly, the only one we never spent money on was the Iveco Daily which we sold at 350000, so what I am saying is your engine is basically a iveco engine and probably one of the most reliable, the new Ford transit is shocking for failures .
Blimey Jof what a rollercoaster week you guys have had, we are glad to see you back safe and all in one piece. I am a valeter at a ford dealer, and the amount of transits that get recovered to us with injector problems at really low mileage is crazy. Good luck getting yours fixed i am sure you will be mobile again soon.
We are so glad you got back home Jof. We have been stressing with you a week. Thanks for sharing your experiences, we are with caravan guard recovery so good to know it works.
Great you’ve got it back home Jof, just had injector issues myself, they said it was due to the van only covering an average of 500 miles a year before we bought it ! Didn’t want to risk it happening again and had all four replaced !
Jof, Before you start just yanking injs out, check for any corrosion or breaks inside the elec plug. Can you get a leak back test done? it measures the amount flowing back should be more or less even you may find that fixing just 1 may be hiding any other weak ones and throwing it all out of balance if I remember right no 1/2 and 3/4 are held in by the same clamp you may well find that to get no 2 out you may have to pull no 1 as well due to the Clamping arrangement, obv then you will need new sealing washers so be prepared for that one. The Doblos I had in my fleet were prone to inj failure especially around mot time.!! Just remember what FIAT stands for. Good luck m8 hope my moho doesn't suffer the same. But glad you and Mrs Jof got home OK.
Advise seeking a specialist and have a 'leak off' test carried out, this will give some indication of the 'health' of all the injectors. Also professional diagnostic equipment can see the correction factor that's been applied to each injector and use this data to identify failing injectors. Generally, if one injector fails, then the ideal solution is to replace all 4. Removing the injectors is often a complex task requiring hydraulic pullers. The complete process, identifying injector fault, removal, replacement and programming the replacement injectors, is best left to professional injection specialists. Good luck with the repair.
Been there. Fiat Ducato motorhome broke down, full engine failure 40 miles south of Calais on A26 late August following two weeks in France. Nightmare, vehicle recovered to local garage, but we had to get back separatly to UK which took 24 hrs from breakdown. Van took nearly three weeks to get back to UK. Getting yourself back to Uk driving was your best bet, wish I could have. Major engine issue to deal with.
No place like home eh Jof👍, glad you’re both back safe, what an adventure for sure. I would keep the second injector as a spare, as one has failed another possibly could at anytime anywhere, but at least you’d have a replacement with you. 🍻
I agree . 50000 miles is just run in . I wonder why they failed at such a low mileage . I shall watch with interest . So glad you got home ok guys . One of my biggest dreads is breaking down in our MH 😱
So glad you've got home safe & sound phew if you manage to get your beloved burstner fixed before next weekend & you want a 60's weekend at cofton we'll be there would be greeeeat to meet up xx
@MOHOTELADVENTURES I bet you ate but I meant next weekend 27th its it's Steve's birthday on the 29th so you could possibly pop in to help celebrate with the old boy 😅 xx
Good to see you back. Hope the repairs get sorted easily. On the subject of recoveries, back in 2003 my work-supplied broke down in Edinburgh and AA brought us back to Freckleton (near Lyhtam St Annes) Lancashire in just 1 trip - no relay. We had a great trip back through the Scottish borders. The AA driver went off to Blackpool rest up. He was quite happy.
Glad your home safe👍🏻
