I think guestboards is actually a good idea, getting 'pro' guests, and possibly running some boards even for Am level skaters. 917 can reposition itself as an agent for young skateboarders, help them get exposure/royalties, low overhead model. there are dozen skaters in the 917 area I can think of off the top of head who could get behind this model by the end of week.
Love Alex for being so based. The dude does his thing and it works (or worked), just look back at the start of 917 and Bianca, fucking H&M was copying his shit! Can't wait to see the future of 917 and also what Cyrus and Max's brand is gonna be like, we all know both of that shit is finna pop yo
The first video blew doors than the second one was even better somehow. The way Logan and those dudes put those things together really made you feel like the brand was something bigger than what it was
I love this and I love Alex. It's a bummer 917 took a turn, but at the same time, I never saw their shit in shops. Idk if it was them or shops but it's hard to support a company that you can't buy shit from. That being said, I hope for the best for Alex. Im down for him skating always
917 was too exclusive for its own good. A board company needs to have skate shop presence (even if it's only core shops) to be successful. I respect Alex Olson though and definitely think he should revamp 917 to suit his whims though. That idea about guest boards/trips was interesting, so he should strike before some new company takes it and runs with it.
@@bennyshambles Alex wanted to give 917 the exclusivity of luxury clothing brands. Thing is, it doesn’t work for board brands too well. Skaters are broke. Most of us will take what’s in the shop or on sale. I get what he’s trying to do, but it’s just too hard to do with a board brand. I get heritage brands like Powell doing it . They have the back catalog to pull it off and can offset it with the price point decks. Alex isn’t there yet. Might have the clout but in skating it’s more than clout that makes you profitable
I appreciate his honesty but the team was totally justified in leaving. Alex hasn't been pushing the company or team at all and all of those guys rip and deserve to be on companies that back them. It's funny too because the way he describes the team acting sounds a lot like him when he was on Girl. Also, the photoshop comment is hilarious considering how rudimentary the majority of 917's graphics are. Wish him the best though.
He started 917 for people who dont give a fuck and just wanna skate and not have to worry about keeping up with shit. The exact opposite of being pushed, i guess everyone just started giving a fuck.

The company lasted like 5 years. A lot of companies have more than one person at the foundation of it. In the age that Jamie and Ed were doing it, skateboarding was for sure smaller and easier to manage. I think Alex did fine. Even then, Toy has had full face lifts of the team. It happens. They just don't publicize it. Alex is fine and he's done fine. He'll pick back up and continue being himself.
