I'm not saying that I would not have been concerned. Only that I would have been far more concerned if it was larger, or was a bull or tiger shark because they attack humans much more often. Also, can't believe I forgot this because it is the most relevant part. Great white sharks, and most others, do not approach prey from a horizontal angle. They charge it from underneath. You're most likely not going to see the shark that attacks you, until you're already in its jaws. The only time they approach something that they intend to eat slowly and from a relatively parallel angle is if the thing they are going to bite is already dead, like a blue whale in the middle of an ocean. Again, in the moment it would be unnerving. But it really shouldn't bother an experienced diver to have an encounter like this. Looks good to people who never go in the ocean though. 😂 Have a great white day. 👍
And they can see the silhouette of a black wetsuit from farther than you can see them. In slack or calm water they might even be able to sense movement in their lateral line before they even see you. For all you hunters, gun enthusiasts and spearfisherman that know little about how sharks actually function, sharks can't really tell you have a spear gun. The reason why it backed away wasn't the gun, it's the fact the person was aware of the shark's presence, was looking at it's approach and held out some sort of long implement in it's face. Sharks like the great white operate on the element of surprise and if they lose it they'll leave and find a better prey alternative. All of that is a deterrant to a continued attempt at an attack for the shark, but it by no means can recognize that the spear gun is an weapon that shoots a harpoon that could kill it. You'll see this in other videos where awareness and the same factors aren't enough to ward off the shark and the shark attempts the attack only to be shot.

If it’s something like great white shark you would be lucky to just lose a leg or a arm
The shark's pectoral fins were down, indicating aggression. That shark was definitely interested in having a little taste.
You are exactly right about the fins when they go down and some sharks even arch their back as well. But I'm not sure about Great Whites doing that but lowering their fins is a dead cert attack mode lucky the diver. Could only just hold his breath long enough to stand is ground. That's one lucky man and one hungry shark a.k.a. sea monster
Indicating aggression or showing natrual behaviour as they tend to have issues with sharing whats around them? Or they feel threaten from something they barely see in the water swimming around them, they could have attracted the shark by spearing fish so the shark mistaken them as food so it went in for a taste i dont think it was being aggresive especially in its domain my guy
@@strictlynorthside2203 You have a misunderstanding of the definition of aggression.
@@esperago nah theres a difference between natrual insticts and to just being straight aggressive, why cant you say displaying natrual behaviour you dont because it was a human being if it was a seal 8t would be natrual the way it is hunting or stalking its prey which is what he would have seen the diver as (prey) ut was not being aggresive towards him mate
