"what is the legend of Zelda, what is her legend?" is just so good.
… the games, Amanda. The games are the legend.
It’s elite
I'm never that precious about my ignorance.
I honestly love how every filmed Big Pic ep has had a different set so far
I got cousins in Mumbai (and all over India) and I can verify - they listen to The Big Picture. Get on a plane, spend a couple of weeks there and prepare for the sensory overload (Also, you can bungee jump up into Priya/Sanjay Singh's house like you're in Tenet - it'll be fun)
Enjoying these video podcasts, didn’t think I needed it, but here we are. Van is always great
Came here to see Van laugh at the Zelda joke!
Literally just heard it and came to RUclips immediately for it!😂
Van's speech about being a 'long suffering nerd' is straight dope. I did the exact same thing in the 80's for SW.
Gang - awesome pod!
Sean with the Joseph Campbell reference! Rod Serling is indeed the teleplay/screenwriter to study and admire.
Amanda did the homework - awesome! Also - using that classics degree to analyze storytelling.
Van - I so get the Reddit deep dives on back story, lore, and what might happen in the future! Thanks for all you do.
Van deadpanning “Princess Peach has more agency than Zelda” made me laugh out loud 😂
Van is my hero
National Public Radio would kill to have Sean on their team.
Just discovered your channel. Loving the content, Subbed
I know I’m behind in Ringer lore, but this video is the one that made me fully buy into Van on any podcast or ringer video. I’m super late to the party on this one (in fairness I’ve been busy with grad school and just now getting back to the ringer), but Van just fuckin rocks.
this is a dream team! just missing CR to round out the fantastic four
More Amanda and Sean. Bill get Amanda on more, and all round just more cowboy hat
Van Lathan rules the ringer
Amanda, girl, bring your ass to the Deadpool X Wolverine Midnight Boys crossover!😂 lol
Big Picture listeners from India rise upp
Love that these are on video, playing the pod on my phone at the same time 😂
Listening rn from Mumbai, India. The Dobb Mob has representation here
Someone tell Van that the Cricket World Cup is in North America this year!
Someone should tell you that no one gives a fuck.
yoo im from India, India mentioned🗣️🗣️
(Crash at my place big man)
Listening while making the kids lunches and ran to google to search Kevin Durant in planet of the apes. So it's actually Durand and someone's gonna have to take ham and cheese on a burger bun cause I ripped through the last slice of bread thinking about KD's forray into post career thespianism.
If I go bald I will definitely invest in cowboy hats
Hi Friends! I was delighted with this episode, particularly the discussion about Charlton Heston. I teach a first year university course that is organized around the theme of examining men and masculinities through the films of Charlton Heston. Students start out confused, but they leave understanding more about diverse kinds of masculinities and with a context for Heston's films (and politics). I argue that as went Heston (marching with MLK) so did parts of white America (gun toting NRA president).
Yes Sean, I can confirm that people from India do listen to you!
I almost had an aneurysm listening to yall explain Zelda.
I love watching these but it's really gonna fuck up my Spotify Wrapped this year.
Anyone else a little shook seeing these voices in “real” life/motion?
Ms Dobbins and Mr Fennessey, we'll definitely have you in India!
Please do Indian films and watch Tumbad, Mr Fennessey you'll like it I guess!
Van talking movies is always S tier
More content!!! More content!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Oof, Rise is not the 3rd to worst movie in this franchise. Not even close tbh. It’s in the top 5 depending on how you feel about the original.
Great Show!
Man to me there is such an insane drop off in quality of the films once you list the 5 best ones.
The original 1968 version, the 2010s trilogy and now Kingdom. None of the other movies come even close in quality.
Good to see Thanos Funko Pop could join us. 😏
The video episodes have been awesome but It feels so weird seeing so many unplayed podcasts in my Spotify feed now
I mark them as played after I watch the video 😂
@@Itsmrluis didn’t even cross my mind I always wondered why that was even a thing… now I know lol
HOLY SHIT! THEY ALL HAVE MOVING FACES!
Cricket rules are simple Van. HMU anytime you want to know something about it.
Also don’t go to Mumbai. You guys can do much better than Mumbai.
It will be difficult to wrap around the mindset of Bollywood but if you do make content about it, it will definitely get viewers. And I for one can’t wait for CR to become big in India.
One thing I like about the apes movies is the perspective is from the Apes point of view.
19:56 yes, but no. In universe, Raka names her Nova because Amiah Miller’s character picks up the metal emblem to an old Chevy Nova and thus Maurice dubs it as her new name for being part of their tribe. Centuries later the naming convention stuck until the original meaning was forgotten. But yeah… War and Kingdom both do it in reference to the very original.
Anyone in Texas? I need friends who like movies lol seriously tho!
01:07:35 is the start of the short clip that was released also on the channel
but, BUT..... they did NOT show Raka dying - they ONLY showed Raka flowing into the river.....it could be Raka survived down the river and holed up in a cave to recover and may return in the next film. this is my theory.
Each Zelda in every game is a• descendant and somewhat reincarnation of the goddess Hylia, who herself is a combination of the three original goddesses.
The original films, ill keep defending Battle, yes the budget kept getting reduced but not the ideas, themes and allegories to contemporary society. Battle does have interesting concepts in it
Blows my mind Van can claim he played every Zelda game and not easily recount what the "Legend of Zelda" is about. Video game & pop culture correspondent at the Ringer btw.
Mae was always working with the Humans,
I’m listening to this on Spotify and thinking “… have these guys even seen any of these ape movies?”
Seem very clueless at times
Man Sean missed the mark completely on this movie. Saw it last night and it was incredible. He let his expectations get the better of him.
1:28:11 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
You are in luck Van. The cricket T20 WC is happening america this year.
Ringer pods. Learning RUclips comment section. Collusion course
I liked the Mae character but after listening I get the criticism. She almost gave me kgb agent vibes but instead of serving mother Russia it was the human race. She could've been raised from birth to go on this type of mission
That ranking… is just… it’s certainly a ranking! It’s definitely a ranking.
Get some reusable water bottles, Big Pic!!
Get a life, stop trying to tell everyone else how to live theirs. You're pathetic.
01:27:13 ape lincoln
Why are they trying to cancel Van online? 0:28
wheres the spoiler warning
The 300 year jump and where we were with the Apes felt right to me. They've spread out and broken off into clans/settlements that have unique cultures. Definitely not something that hung me up. Also I could do completely away with all humans in these movies. Like Van said, they had their chance and they messed it up. I don't need to continually see how the human race may re-conquer the world.
Why Mel? Why?!
Didn't let me down, Van!

Re modern Bollywood, get to ‘Lagaan’ and ‘RRR’. As a quality detour, check out ‘Monsoon Wedding’
Nah
This episode was much more entertaining than the movie, especially the discussion of the original series. I never saw any of the films in a theater until the misbegotten Tim Burton reboot, but the first five were fixtures on our local UHF stations through the late '60s/early '70s. Sean and Amanda really nailed it with the discussion of "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" -- 50 years later and that ending still sticks with me! The sudden shift from comic to tragic was pretty devastating for a pre-teen! For what it's worth, I think Soona is a dead ringer for Kim Hunter's Dr. Zira.
Amanda vs Zelda forever
I think the clans will join together. They already started. But their evolution hasn’t happened because they are so segregated. That’s what some people believe for humans where were some groups were more advanced then others.
1:29:00 Someone should make spiritual successor to Tuck everlasting where it really drives the “I can neither age nor die” mechanic (the 2nd worst form of immortality, with the 1st being “I age but can’t die”) to it’s inevitable conclusion: insanity via immortality. You lived to be 1,000 years wow! now try 7,042,812.
28:00 The definition of evolution was just gunned down and pissed on by The Big Pic.
Can Amanda go 2 min without mentioning She’s a MOM????
WOW…. Trust Me
NOBODY CARES
42:10 thank me later
A/B testing the audio quality on Spotify vs RUclips... sheesh!
It's like listening through a sweatshirt
fan for life. will love you even more if you bring reusable water bottles and ditch the single use plastic
I only use single use bottles and I burn em. And guess what so does all of India and China, how much of a difference do you think you and your "hall monitoring" of other people's drinks makes?
Why is being light skined problematic?
like this comment if you think Amanda is hot
weirdo
Chill bro
WTF
The CR bots have gained sentience
@@Scrofl for being a heterosexual?
I know this is Ringer Movies and not Ringer Games, but that Zelda conversation was painful.
Screaming. “The games are the legend. The different tales are the legend. Oh Ganon? You mean the Demon King. Evil incarnate!”
@@kob141Lol I'm sure she would have been completely satisfied with that answer
Me walking into that convo “I never saw one damn wolf dancing”
Additionally. This is why van is necessary for movies like this. As much as I love Amanda Sean and CR, there’s an elitist vibe to how they see films.
I can honestly say Amanda’s brain waves and mine are diametrically opposed. Seldom do I ever agree with her takes.
Why is van Lathan on every goddamn pod? He’s so terrible
Hes p4p most entertaining podcaster they have
