  • This special Passover variant of the IDF's 4 person 24 hour ration could be utilized many different ways, and in this case a small stove top & skillet are used for improvised cooking, along with a rolling pin.
    Featuring Matzah Bread as the special guest of sorts. A staple for Passover and always used by the IDF with these special rations.
    This was filmed a little while back and I'm happy to finally get it out there because it was a really fun review. There are quite a few more gems like this one buried away.
    Hope you enjoy it and see you in the next few days, I'm currently finishing up a Canadian IMP from 2006 and a double feature PLA ration review. Alright cool, see ya. -steve

    These are used today by all combat units in the military during training and are most commonly served with simple white bread. Tier 1 units have American styled MRES for missions that are out of state. The absolute best sandwich was the tuna with beans and sauce on top with the peanuts for crunch and saltiness as especially towards the bottom of the can they are extremely salty. If no bread empty 1 can of tuna into half a can of corn with peanuts, next best thing. Also olives on the side are 10/10 and next time like the others said, fold 2 squares of tp and cover the can, let it burn for 20 min maybe more until it puts itself out.

    I left the IDF back in 2015. Glad to see our MREs kept the tradition of not changing since the fucking 60s.
    Also for the tuna burning - you need to take a couple sheets of TP and just lay them on the open can, so that the sheet is soaked in oil but the edges are still dry. You then light the edges and let the entire TP burn until the fire dies. If done correctly all the surface area should burn so when you take off the TP the entire top is almost fried to a golden brown color. I ate so much of that crap over 3 years I didn't touch canned tuna for a couple of years after.

    I'd definitely like to see more of these little recipe experiments, especially if it's stuff that soldiers would actually do. Military cuisine like that is super cool, when everything is miserable around them people still find a way to at least spice up their meals and have some fun. There's just something so beautifully human about that...ignoring all the death and stuff.

    • @mkzhero
      @mkzhero 2 года назад +5

      Well, sorry to say but this is DEFINITELY not stuff soldiers would do, i served in the IDF, no one ever has cooking pans, let alone burners when they're given these 'MRE's, there's pretty much never field kitchens either outside of actual war and big conflicts (which is not usually the case) heck, you're lucky if you get to wash your hands every time you eat these. Not to mention you'd probably not always will be given the time. The one thing people actually really do is the toilet paper grilling trick. Its really sad to hear Steve not say how sad these are like in his last review of our 'MRE'S, especially for hot weather when you're already drinking and sweating so much. Also the fact you already where sick of tuna back at base. Also how pathetic the mention of 'MRE's are pricy to make' when its the cheapest supermarket cans you can get in a supermarket, ducktaped into a cardboard box, and that's being said to soldiers that are ALL FORCED to serve 3 years, getting one third of MINIMAL wage if they're in combat roles, and a SIXTH of minimal wage in support and administrative. The contractors tho (those who stay past 3 years) get paid well. You are fed like cannon fodder, you are supplied like cannon fodder, you're treated like cannon fodder, you're paid like cannon fodder, you ARE cannon fodder, you have no choice about it, you're not even really allowed to really shoot in self defence and if you do, you'll definitely go to jail in 60-80% of the cases, and its all overall really depressing. lucky they at least don't often USE living soldiers for much and there weren't any actual wars for long, usually just aviation and tanks...

    Steve my guy so glad to see you do a Manat Krav Passover special! Very heartwarming and nostalgic. Those used to also have rolled grapevine leaves filled with rice, wish you could try those.
    Loved the improvised peanut bread.. The more conventional way to burn the tuna is to lay a few layers of TP flat on the can, so the middle of the square is sunken in oil, then light the corners, I used to throw about 5 1-TP-square-balls in the middle so it would also burn up. Then give it time, it burns until all the oil is out, takes about 15 minutes. At the end you get crunchy, smokey tuna that actually tastes like chicken breast!

    I want Steve to cook every meal i eat for the rest of my life. Watching him cook/fry everything is one of the most silliest and entertaining things ever.
