I love this pedal. I use it to dirty up ch1 on my evh amp, for light blues etc. Using the 808. I like the ts9 to use as a push for the blue channel and red channel as needed.

Call me crazy but I could barely hear any tonal differences between all of the modes except for a hotter volume output. I guess I need to try it out in person to see if I like it or not.
These kind of OD pedals make few differences in tone anyways, it's more on the feeling, so, yeah, I think it's way more relevant trying it out by yourself (I mean, even more than usual lol)
You need to hear them over a clean tone, there are demo's of that out there, then you can hear the difference between each, I think JHS has a video where they compare each to the original pedal it was made after

You have poor ears if you think VST's can replicate the sound of an actual mic'd amp. They can sound good, but not the same lol

Most of your play through clips are gained up.
How do you find the OX with Gain tones.
I know Rabea has preferred the OX for clean tones, but always seems to prefer the TwoNotes for Gain tones.
I know you have experience with both, so what’s your thoughts?

I think the Orange has too much character of its own to really let this pedal shine here...
The Bonsai is a pretty neat concept, I just don’t know if I could ever go that way since I’d probably find a setting I love and never use the rest of them...
stuff confuses me.. why do you need to go into the orange amp if youre going into a load box going into a sim cab? couldnt you just simulate an amp also?

Carter Lord, were you having a bad day? This is how hard rock and metal players use od’s, clean boosting a dirty amp. That’s what fluff and basically everyone subscribed to his channel likes. I just feel like your comment was just sarcastic and nasty for no real reason
Dagomon no I had reason behind my comment. I understand he is a metal/hard rock youtuber but I feel like this pedal is not meant for that so I just don't understand why you would review it if it really doesn't go with the sound he/viewers are after. I love his channel and I wasn't trying to be nasty for no reason I was just expressing my opinion on the review

It really shows how powerful psychoacoustics is.. i have heard more different tones from different pickups than those modes..it is still an overpriced YATS.

@@KahruSuomiPerkele exactly.. if the switch changed clipping devices, i would have a bit of respect..just because it would be more honest.
For high gain maybe but all the modes do sound quite difference, hear I mostly hear the orange amp, I never understood people being snobby about tubescreamers when it came to the high gain boost application, when it comes to that classic bluesy SRV thing though I get it because all the different circuits have a slightly different feel. For metal I reckon a boost that shelves highs and lows with a mid high control would work as well as any tubescreamer.
@@JimijaymesProductions 100% agree.. for SRV stuff, just need 1 model right..not 9. Hell, even 2 tube screamers in series can be cheaper than this.
@@dsmnoisemaker so would i be much better off getting a Boss SD-1w than a JHS Bonsai? i don't want to wish i had more options available to me if i don't get the bonsai, but if there's not really a very noticeable difference then the generally superior tone of the SD-1w's custom mode compared to other tube screamers seems like it's the best one for me to get. it will be my first guitar pedal since i'm finally ready to graduate from a practice amp, and i've been watching tons of videos figuring out which overdrive pedal i should get.

Old post but when using a tube screamer you pretty much always want to put in front if an overdriven amp. The boost from the pedal gives it that extra drive and bam metal. In front lf a clean it would just be different cleans.... But he could have put it in the FX loop for a true sound

While the pedal sounds cool, there’s a lot of drama about JHS’ owner that turns me off from them. I’ve tried to find a definite answer on the drama through research and it’s all cloudy imo. However, personally, knowing he was part of an organization that is actively against people of my sexuality, I can’t see myself buying from them. Not gonna start a fuss and go all social justice like some people would, I just personally don’t like the allegations against him and it seems every conclusion people find, whether guilty or innocent, are opinion based which makes it difficult to come to a true conclusion on.
Nilly Sigger I’m just stating my opinion, as I’d personally rather not risk buying a pedal and finding out that its owner in fact is tied to a group that hates me for who I am. To each their own, it’s a nice pedal, buy it if you want it. Hell, people still buy Chick Fil A because it’s fucking delicious.
