Dang man same here. I was confused at first by what he was stepping on. Then saw your comment. Wow, he really got the sounds right. They sound incredibly similar to the end goal.
There are a lot of great makers out there, but seeing Josh supporting the music community the way he does actually adds a lot of quality to his products. His stuff is good in part because of the soul that went into creating it.
Yeah, I think they nailed them too. They sound so similar. JHS pedals aren’t cheap compared to other manufacturers, however if you look at this as being 9 different pedals, it’s incredibly cheap. And all of the pedals they emulated sound so different that it’s reasonable to look at it as basically being 9 different pedals.
@@arthritisankle Plus, if you really wanted a TS-10, for example, you would be looking at paying more for a single pedal. Buy the Bonsai, you get a TS-10 with 8 other pedals for free.
I've got to get one of these. They actually sounded like the original paired against one another. Just fantastic and I like that Josh always, always gives props to other companies. He cares about sound and different tones.
Dude I almost didn't recognize the Foo Fighters riff, never thought that anyone other than a die hard Foo's fan would know Floaty! Proving once again, why Andy is the best!
I bought that album the day it came out. I lived in a podunk town, but my mom bought me some music mag subscriptions. Being a big Nirvana fan, I was ready with money in hand! Loved that album from front to back.
bad can be great if it is needed. qualities important but the low price of garbage usually makes up for it. it would be great to see him 180 though and do a top 10 most hated pedals and equipment for a month.
@@subjectofsaturnyervahsa7386 Yeah... but he’s gotta earn a living... and there’s no $ in it, unfortunately. But... truth be told, he might enjoy doing it, if it wouldn’t scare the sponsors. They may think they were next on the chopping block. Ha ha
This is incredible...I’m buying one of these. The “differences” in sound are no greater than the naturally occurring differences you’d find from pedal to pedal. Unreal... EDIT: btw, I’m really glad to see that I’m not the only one who though that “hot” sounded incredible on those old ts7 boxes. I remember trying one of those out at the first shop where I taught...went “whoa” and it never left my room hahah. They never asked about it either, which is weird...I just sort of kept it in there...
I got this pedal last Friday and I did a gig with it Saturday it is pretty damn amazing. It’s going up to the studio this weekend to do an album. And the guys at Jhs just are really cool. I’ve gone through the sounds and there’s really some special stuff here. The 808, TS9, TS 10 seem pretty similar to me. The differences are subtle. The Keeley setting is amazing JHS setting is amazing. The Xr & metal-screamer are the different ones. Every sound is extremely usable. He really nailed it good job Josh and always good to see Andy. Sure, you can buy a $25 pedal but it won’t be in this league. No way cats...
Just got this as a christmas present and I'm really really impressed. I don't have any experience with Tube Screamers or overdrives in general so I wasn't really expecting much, but there's a beautiful harmonic chime undertone (especially on XR, JHS, and MSL) to everything that doesn't really come through on video. I've been playing a baritone through it and I think I've played more this week than I have in months. Thanks JHS, going right next to my RAT mod that I got a few years ago from you guys :)
The exar is my favorite. I bought this pedal and it blew me away. I'm finally getting the tones I've been looking for neoclassical shred. This pedal is amazing and well worth the $$. I will probably be changing out all of my pedals for JHS.
O.M.G.!! A pedal comparison video where the exact same riff is played immediately one after the other so we can properly listen for differences. It's like I've died and gone to Pedal G.A.S. Heaven. If I have to listen to another comparison video where someone plays a lick, then describes that he is changing the pedal before he plays the lick again, or one where--YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME--they just play a song and randomly change pedals throughout providing no actual good comparisons.......... ARGH! All that to say, THANK YOU! 😉
Meastro Fuzz - cause he never forces a smile/reaction like that, to some pretty ordinary gear ... They do this to educate you, not to sell you stuff ... 😂
Jeez, you people are hard to please! Every single setting was dead on, and not digitally... Every circuit is actually identical. If you don't appreciate the subtle differences between these highly coveted screamers, and don't enjoy geeking out over how amazing it is to have them all in one affordable pedal... This obviously isn't for you. But I truly don't understand this attitude, especially when you consider that the price of admission is LESS than a single ts8! Mind boggling. Anyway.. you did an amazing job, Josh... don't let these non-geeks pee all over this massive achievement!
Well, I gotta admit, this is pretty damn amazing. To think I had a genuine TS9 in my hands brand new in early 1980s and went, "Nup, buying a Chorus pedal...." I use a palette of sounds so if given a million dollars I'd have a rig like U2's The Edge, but it's always been a bug bear of mine to find the definitive Tubescreamer, whether it a genuine Ibanez pedal or some boutique clone. Judging by what Josh said in the History video the chip is but a part of the whole circuit so the search for a holy grail is very subjective to what you are hearing in your rig. I might actually buy one, albeit reluctantly.
Andy could make a broken pedal sound great :-) Coudo's to Josh, I just picked one of these up and it is a little bit of pedal Heaven. I am not too happy however that all my other ODs will need some dusting off now.
Would love to see JHS do the Muffuletta/Bonsai concept for overall effect types. 9 different fuzz circuits in 1: big muff, fuzz face, brassmaster, whatever etc. Or modulation.
That would probably be a pretty big enclosure. I'm still blown away that JHS was able to rotary switch between all of these different parts in such a small enclosure. I think it was possible since they were all still built on one circuit.
Early 80's I had a wedge shaped fuzzbox of some kind but in early '84 I bought a second hand mid 70's Ibanez OD 850 overdrive and loved it but not enough to stop me making the mistake of lending it to a friend who spray painted it black and who then lent it to another friend who had it stolen from his house in a break in, it was really a break in, all their vinyl etc was taken too. After twenty five years of playing Boss overdrives and distortions I bought a replacement original OD 850, imported it, it's my mid life crisis/relive youth Harley Davidson.
Everyone needs as TS! ;) It's a nice pedal even for metal guitar players. Can be used in many different ways. But you really need a good sounding amp, because the screamer really interacting with what's behind it in the signal chain.
In 1988 I was about to buy my first gain pedal. The sales guy put a TS10 and a Fat Cat Distortion on the table. Like a dummy (more gain=better) I bought the Fat Cat. Yeah, thanks, John Mayer. Goddamit.
Literally, this thing is amazing. And literally, I cannot understand why I would want one. I love a good tubescreamer, but if you own more than one, you're coping.
Smartest thing Reverb has ever done is hire Andy!!!!!
Eric Hufschmid they didn't hire him. his company bought reverb.
odalayme yeah I know, I meant to keep Andy. Reverb has some of their own demo guys... so to keep Andy was a VERY smart move ;-)
No this is the dumbest. Andy sucks. Why keep changin guitars? Just keep the sam e one and show the differences properly
Agree strongly
If I want a pedal demo.i search for Andy, honestly one of my favorite guitarists iv ever seen man
I liked the green one
:D
i liked the overdrive one
nah my fav def was the pedal
The Tubescreamer was the best
Why did I laugh out loud 😂😂
Oh damn I didn’t even realize they were AB-ing them until the last one! Damn JHS killin it!
ha! same...
but the last one was the only one, which sounded exactly the same :D and that's understandable :)
Dang man same here. I was confused at first by what he was stepping on. Then saw your comment. Wow, he really got the sounds right. They sound incredibly similar to the end goal.
I tried to listen for differences but I bet the differences I heard were mostly in my head.
There are a lot of great makers out there, but seeing Josh supporting the music
community the way he does actually adds a lot of quality to his products. His stuff is good in part because of the soul that went into creating it.
Can we just appreciate how the knobs between the bonsai and the tube screamers line up almost perfectly and they sound exactly the same?
In a matter of years, my whole pedalboard will have 10.000 differrent pedal sounds with 10 JHS pedals
DANG. This is worth it for the JHS and Keeley mods alone
This is the most interested I’ve ever been in a JHS pedal. Nailed all of those sounds!
Seriously...pretty cray.
Yeah, I think they nailed them too. They sound so similar.

When Andy smiles in a product review I buy it. You know it’s good if it makes Andy happy.
Dude I almost didn't recognize the Foo Fighters riff, never thought that anyone other than a die hard Foo's fan would know Floaty! Proving once again, why Andy is the best!
7:28 had me feeling the Floaty ❤🤘
What a tune
Same here I had to pause the video and think about that one!
I bought that album the day it came out. I lived in a podunk town, but my mom bought me some music mag subscriptions. Being a big Nirvana fan, I was ready with money in hand! Loved that album from front to back.
"Floaty" gang. Andy is the man
Don’t fall for it guys... this guy makes everything sound great. Ha ha

Whomever has been dressing Josh lately is doing an excellent job

Finally got mine Bonsai, just want to thank JHS for incredible work. Very true, modern and versatile pedal.
Wow this pedal is almost 100% spot on with every tone replication
Almost
I think Andy has to be my favorite demo player... a big thanks to him. This pedal sounds pretty amazing. On my short list to buy.

Josh is building some amazing stuff.
Just bought the JHS Bonsai and it's seriously so awesome!
For April Fools, you should do a recreation of the crappy digital sounding distortion of Line 6 in the 2000 era.
Red Insane Mode from the Spider II
Sounds Awesome. You got the right guy to do the demo. I loved the Robert Keeley Mod - the Best. Really open sounding with great string definition.

great pedal had this pedal about 3 weeks great job Josh and team
Love the way Josh pronounces ‘bonsai’
This demo is well done. A lot of thought into the modeling of circuits. Also helps that Andy is doing the demo.
The exar is my favorite. I bought this pedal and it blew me away. I'm finally getting the tones I've been looking for neoclassical shred. This pedal is amazing and well worth the $$. I will probably be changing out all of my pedals for JHS.
Years gone by and I'm still in love with the versatility of my Cmatmods Signa Drive. Anyway, Andy's playing is always stellar!
Boss, Metalscreamer, and Exar settings sounded the coolest to me!
I’ve been using a vintage 80’s TS808 and TS9 for years and this pedal really nails those tones IMO. Andy really makes that TS10 tone shine too, wow!
Really nice review, sounds to me like the Bonsai has generally a little bit more clarity than the originals. Pretty impressive pedal!
I noted the same too in some models
I just put this pedal back on my board and am having a blast. It’s so good! Great work JHS! And great demos Andy!
I would have never imagined that our old EXAR box will be re-produced by JHS :O
JHS nailed all the sounds. Now to save up for this.
When Andy switches from the original to the JHS and gives that nod and sincere cheeky grin you KNOW this thing is the real deal. Nicely done JHS.
I'll take ten.
I’ll take 9 😉
What a time to be alive!
Bought one and love it so much especially the Keeley mode.
Man, you really nailed it with this box JHS! Good work!
7:30 nice FF floaty ;) Andy is king
When josh came onto the screen it scared the absolute shit out of me, i just thought oh no, andy looks like he's been in a house fire!
bahahhahahahah!
I was looking into what tube screamer to get and honestly the versatility of this one it has to be on my board !!!
I am the biggest fan boy of Andy. He is easily the best guitar demo player ever.
My sweetwater card will never be paid off.
I really enjoyed this video, the presentation and the playing. Thank You JHS
7:29 Foo Fighters first album Great!!!
This is amazing! What a tribute to the guitar world this guy have just made, I’m getting one right now
JHS did it perfectly like exactly on point they sound the same. Thanks Josh for this and the Muffuletta.
All I gotta say is wow. Ultimate all in one screamer collection
Man, really digging what I hear from this pedal so far, I can't wait to get my hands on one.
appreciate andy being unable to not bust out a strat and play some hot texas blues with that ts10

3:37 Yeap its Andy approved
Meastro Fuzz - cause he never forces a smile/reaction like that, to some pretty ordinary gear ... They do this to educate you, not to sell you stuff ... 😂
that's some unheard of alternate picking. awesome.
MSL is the sleeper hit. I have one of them. Had it for 30+ years. It's awesome!
Jeez, you people are hard to please! Every single setting was dead on, and not digitally... Every circuit is actually identical. Josh is really a killer sales man
This is the Oeuvre of TS. Like an Indexed Reference Textbook or Chronological Anthology Greatest Hits Box Set Collectors Edition but for guitar.

You guys seriously raised the bar. Holy shit.
Ordered this and the pack rat, will probably get the muffelleta one day because the big muff is my favorite effects unit of all time.
I like how you use almost a different guitar for each pedal!!!
Great post! And they all sound spot on!
If you could have one classic overdrive pedal, which one would you choose?
JHS: yes
Holy hot damn, what a world we live in.
Adding to wish list.
This Guy's outta control!!!
Early Foo Fighters on the TS7 🤘🏼
A definite Must Have for any Connoisseur of Over Drive.😎
Dang, that’s pretty amazing.

Bonsai is a little bit brighter than the originals to my ears.
wow, I expected this to be much more expensive, well done, will definitely pick one up
the JHS setting of the JHS mod on the JHS pedal was sick on chords! ... JHS!
Well done Josh and your crew! Pretty amazing!
Now we're waiting for John Mayer to put metal zone on his pedalboard xD
8:37 that sounded so stevie ray vaughn
A button up shirt? This is an important video!
oh boy that black weary strat sounds lovely like butter on my breakfast toast
pardon my french, but this is unfuckingbelievable.
The plumes is awesome!!
Great job Andy. Nice JHS package, they all sound great but boutiquey price tag. Joyo V.O. is a favorite clone.
Andy is an awesome guitar player
OMG! Josh & Andy in the same video!
Well Andy loves it☺️
Damn you JHS, now I gotta get me one.
I have an original 1981 ts-9 though. SRV's tech said that was the one he used
Even though I have a EQD Palisades that pretty much sums up the TS, but just because it's a JHS version I would still get it. Ace.

XR mode setting surprised me! Sounded great!
I wish I knew about the Bonsai sooner. I just recently bought a TS9. Looks and sounds like a great pedal!
I’m certain Josh owns a considerable amount of Reverb stock at this point
Man this is how you sell pedals. I'm not a tube screamer guy, but I want one.
Everyone needs as TS! ;)
It's a nice pedal even for metal guitar players. Can be used in many different ways. But you really need a good sounding amp, because the screamer really interacting with what's behind it in the signal chain.
Damn josh, I bet this guy could sell me a car with no wheels.... I guess it would be a great sounding car though ;p
Just ordered a Bonsai!
I love the Big Muff, will have to check out the Muffeletta (Sp?).
Damn it ! I just bought tube screamer, now I have to return it 😡😡😡😡
In 1988 I was about to buy my first gain pedal. The sales guy put a TS10 and a Fat Cat Distortion on the table.

That is an extremely convincing pedal. All the modes sound 1:1.
