    Statline: 40 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, 14-29 FG, 1-5 3 pt
    Already in his young career, Kobe Bryant at the age of 22 was leading the league in scoring at 28.8 points per game. He already had the total package and during the season showed why at the same age, he was better than Lebron James. Along with it, he was the youngest defensive player to make it onto the all defensive team couple years ago and it clearly showed in this game.
    The Raptors led early and they lured Shaquille O'neal, the Lakers star center, into early foul trouble in both the 1st and 2nd quarters. For Kobe Bryant, it was his chance to showcase his skills without Shaq in the game. He did just that. Bryant had the crowd buzzing with his tantalizing 1st half performance. He scored 21 1st half points on mostly jumpshots on 8-13 shooting. Although his scoring was the highlight of the 1st half, his tenacious defense on Mark Jackson of the Raptors was also a factor in giving LA the lead despite Shaquille O'neal not playing in most of the 1st half. He hounded Jackson to the point he could not even cross the halfcourt line. However the Los Angeles Lakers could not stop Vince Carter who scored 22 1st half points of his own on 7-13 shooting which helped the Raptors hang with the Lakers.
    In the 2nd half, the Lakers put Bryant on the red hot Vince Carter. Although Kobe played a more passive and quiet 2nd half, his pressure defense on Vince Carter was very apparent throughout the half. Carter, who put up 22 on 7-13 shooting in the 1st half was held to 3-19 in the 2nd half on 8 points due to the lockdown defense of Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers pulled away from the Toronto Raptors and led by 15 at one point with 4 minutes to go in the 4th. However a furious run by the Raptors late in the 4th energized the crowd and the entire team when they went on a 20-4 run to end regulation. Despite the defense of Bryant on Carter, his teammates came through for him and the Raptors came tied the game on 2 free throws at 91 apiece. On the final possession, the Lakers went to Kobe who was ambushed by the Raptor defense. He was doubled off the ball and was forced into a wild three that was rejected by Vince Carter leading to overtime. In overtime, the Los Angeles Lakers ran away from the Raptors although they made another furious run at the end that nearly went through for them. The Lakers ultimately won the game 104-101 mostly due to the tenacious lockdown defense of Bryant on Mark Jackson in the 1st half and Vince Carter in the 2nd half.
    Kobe Bryant finished the game with 40 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks on 14-29 shooting.

    More importantly, how old were you when you were watching him. at that age.
    I never denied of his performance in 02-03, but you can easily see in this clip that he was a relentless player with non-stop energy on both sides.
    Sure, he made mistakes but that wasn't the reason why you started talking BS to me. The Kobe I saw in 2000 season was as athletic as he ever got. He might have gotten bigger and smarter since then, but again that wasn't the original point.

    Actually, Carter admitted that he really didn't always put in the amount of work that he could have put in. Where a player is drafted is important, but so is work ethic and style of play. Kobe was a better all around scorer than Vince Carter was even when Kobe was pretty much alone on his team. Kobe put up averages in the 30's along with great defense and being the primary ball handler. Carter was lower in assist as well.

    You didn't really make great points. We can look at Vince Carters comments about his work ethic and we can look at the years after Shaq left when Kobe was pretty much the entire Lakers team. He averaged almost 28, and then 35, and 31 points. He also averaged 45 and 46% in the years in which he scored 30 plus points. He averaged more assist than Carter in those years as well. It isn't just the team he was on as shown by what he did "alone". He was a better overall player than Carter.

    and your point is ?? Vince was drafted by Golden State and Kobe by Charlotte. Then Vince went to a new franchise where he played alongside names that you would have trouble remembering, let alone recognizing as great players, while Kobe went to what would be a championship contender for many years to play alongside one of the most dominant centers of all time in Shaq...I never excused Kobes great work ethic, Im stating that Kobe got lucky early in his career and Vince never did till past prime

  • @CJSLICK101
    @CJSLICK101 15 лет назад +1

    Shut down kobe??
    He scored 40 points on 15/26 shooting...
    if that's a shutdown, I'd hate to see the opposite!
    Kobe shut Vince down... got a couple of lucky shots on him but didn't get into the paint and kobe locked him up when it mattered the most! CRUNCH TIME!

  • @CJSLICK101
    @CJSLICK101 15 лет назад

    They are both great players!
    Everyone misses no matter how bad the miss is everyone does it...
    you expect the best players to make every shot?
    It's been established that one on one Kobe is the best player in the league! No pick & rolls, No Help defense, No slides, No Double Teams and especially no timeouts to regain stamina! no one can stop him...
    Now, teams are a different story! They are all great players and great players make great plays on defense every now and then! it happens...

    I don't know man, Vince's stats in playoffs are actually better than in regular season. Vince was talented but he was lazy kind of like T-Mac

    Not gonna get into the "___ is better than __" bs. I think vince's style of play is way more hinged on his dunks than Kobe's. Thats not to say Vince wasn't great shooting, but he really likes to get in the air. So this probably made his jumper's knee a lot more severe than kobe's. Plus Kobe underwent treatments carter probably didnt. (who knows) Vince never really got back in playing shape and still really isn't. Dunno if this is laziness or not, I'm not Vince Carter so I couldn't say.

    That was Kobe's prime as an athlete! His defense is nowhere the same now. He needs a team filled with elite players in order to smell the finals.
    I'm shocked, however, that the peaking Kobe and Shaq did not handle the Carter-led Raptors with ease, and only won by three points.
    Kobe played with the most dominant big man when he was 22! Carter had to wait till he's 32 in order to play with a dominant big. Talk about faith!

    so by admitting that he never put in the work ethic his averages across the board jumped from 16 ppg to 28 pgg in the same season ?? thats not work ethic...theres a difference between work ethic and putting forth an EFFORT...you have the 2 phrases greatly confused...Vinces numbers jumped across the board...regular season and playoffs AFTER Toronto lol...but of course you wouldnt know that..and of course Kobe carried them for 2-3 seasons alone like Vince did TO & NJ for 10 seasons. not even close

    @amunrahII lol...smh...kobe had shaq from 1996-2004 (8 years) and then gasol from 2008-2011 thus far (3 years)--altogether in his career having played with a top 50 greatest player for 8 years and another future hof big man for 3 years so far---vince carter played with dwight howard -(less of an offensive scoring machine than both shaq ((in his prime with kobe--comparing is a joke LOL)) and gasol now)--from 2010-midway through the 2011 season--for a total of 1 and 1/2 seasons--now compare that.

  • @sauce556
    @sauce556 13 лет назад

    @amunrahII somehow-when i make a bunch of vaid points--respondents tend to not respond to half of em lol i say if vince was drafted to LA and kobe drafted to TO--vince would have won the 3 rings with shaq and would be the talk of the league--but ofcourse that scenario has nothing at all to do with luck and the players your surrounded by as opposed to work ethic lol
