No problem! Thanks for watching and commenting! Go Blue!
It was too good to be true that Dylan McCaffrey would stay with Michigan. I'll be watching him wherever he goes. Sad he's gone.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
No problem. Thanks for watching!
great video. good to see how much they improved. gonna be a battle for QB1
Thanks a lot! Yeah, they both obviously have things they can work on but both have a ton of potential and have already shown some good abilities. I can't wait to see them in action in a couple of months! :)
Why would you think that after watching this video?
McCaffrey is the guy I’m not a Michigan but I’ve watched this kid over the years he has the it factor I think that shea Patterson really hurt his devolpment
Interesting looking back that these guys were considered the future of Michigan football and now both have transferred
Might be the two best qb's we've had in a decade, we'll see who steps up
Yea definitely not
@@takeittothebank8 is this one of john okorn's accounts?

Answer: neither
Watching this solidified even more my belief that McCaffrey needs to be the guy this year. Milton certainly has potential, but I don’t understand why everyone seems to think he should be the starter. Hasn’t shown enough on the field yet in my opinion. McCaffrey just has a crispness and decisiveness to him that’s such a welcome change from Patterson. Hopefully the days of the consistent 10 yard overthrows are behind us.
O-H!
Milton was always the guy. Mcnamara has a little drew brees in him. Very accurate, good at escaping pressure and extending the play. Very smart.
Did u even watch the video he’s awful
Wyatt Barnes, wow, so many great points.
@@Gas_man Well here’s a few. Can’t read a defense, feels pressure and runs prematurely. Average arm strength and barely did anything special even in garbage time, don’t know why Michigan fans thought he was special, I would’ve started Patterson too if they thought Milton needed to sit.
Remember to temper your expectations, things don’t always work out as well as you’d like to. Especially for new starting qbs. If the offense is ever going to improve it will have to be through Gattis and a system change.
We all know Dylan deserves that starting spot he rode Peters tail end and Sheas when he got the chance to prove himself he did he should be the starter no question. If you look at most of his incompletions they were bc of the receiver or the defender knocked it out he has a great accurate arm and can run no question for me he’s the obvious starter
If peters didn’t get hurt the week before ND, he would have stayed the backup all year.
If peters didn’t get hurt the week before ND, he would have stayed the backup all year.
Milton became QB1 when George Floyd overdosed.
McCaffrey makes some borderline NFL ready throws on a consistent basis. What a waste of 2 years Shae was.
Sheas stats are pretty damn good but Dylan has a higher ceiling
I don’t know about that have not gotten through the whole video yet but I see a guy who is most comfortable on rollout passes especially to the right. And can run read option. He has some happy feet when he just has to sit in the pocket and go past his second read. As the video continues you do start to see him look more comfortable in the pocket though.
That's a pretty good analysis I concur.
@@RJScott-mt1jx Forget stats. It's about willing your team to victory over a good-to-elite opponent. Shae only beat one top ten team in ND last year.
completely screwed everyones development. Dylan has basically never repped with the 1's because Shea was there, and joe probably never has. I doubt there was a serious qb competition like we were told last year. This year i believe is a real qb competition tho
Hey man, I was wondering if you would ever be interested in making cut-ups of induvial players for the NFL Draft?
Really do wish in hindsight that Harbaugh would've used this season to develop Mccaffrey, could finally have some QB continuity
This aged nicely
damn, i forgot about some of those throws by dcaff. a few of those were placed perfectly. I'm a big Milton fan but if dcaf puts on some weight and can stay healthy, he is very talented. I think either QBs can be better than Shea. people talk about dcaf's comp%, but some of those throwaway were very smart and he quickly adjusted on broken plays, whereas a lot of times Shea hangs on to the ball too long or runs right into the pressure...
People don't be seein how good I be
Gonna be a long year for Michigan

- Pocket Presence:
I think that McCaffrey is already a lot better in this area than Patterson was last year. We had a lot of wasted passing plays last season where Patterson had more time to throw, but got anxious and left a completely clean pocket which makes many of your options disappear on a given passing play. There were also times when Patterson probably could’ve gotten rid of the ball to a receiver and taken a hit, but instead he started scrambling. That’s not to say that Patterson never stayed in the pocket or that he never made a good throw just before he got hit, but in general, this is an area where Patterson really struggled. McCaffrey, in the little bit that he’s played, has done a much better job of avoiding pressure by stepping up into the pocket, which gives him the ability to keep his eyes downfield and make a throw if someone is open, or move directly upfield and get yards on the ground if possible. In watching these clips, I noticed that McCaffrey has actually faced a fair amount of pressure in the little bit that he’s played and for the most part has handled that pressure very well. Also, when he has had a clean pocket, he has done a decent job of not getting antsy and bailing on the pocket before he should have. I did include 3 clips where he one could argue that McCaffrey left the pocket when he didn’t have to, but none of those 3 examples were clear mistakes. Milton, in the tiny bit that he’s played, has shown a willingness to take a hit just before he throws and so far he hasn’t had many problems with bailing on a clean pocket.
You could argue that both guys, on occasion, could wait a little bit longer in the pocket to see if someone breaks open before taking off and running.
But at least both guys, when they do leave the pocket, go up-field rather bailing out around the side like Patterson did a lot last season.

Milton - Bailing on a clean pocket when he shouldn’t have
*I didn’t notice any egregious examples of Milton bailing on a clean pocket when he shouldn’t have.
- Running ability:
Both guys look like competent runners. McCaffrey has shown some big play ability. Milton might have that ability, too, but if so, he hasn’t had the opportunity to show that level of explosiveness the few times that he’s run the ball. Milton, because he’s a bigger guy, might be able to carry the ball more times per game than McCaffrey without the coaches worrying about his health.

- Questionable decision making:
Both guys have struggled a fair amount to take care of the ball. Milton has thrown 2 interceptions in only 11 career passes. It’s worth noting that one of those passes was on 4th down where an interception is no worse than an incompletion so I would almost not count that INT. McCaffrey has yet to throw an interception at Michigan but in his 35 career passes, he’s risked a turnover a few times already. Making this video made me realize that both guys, as of last year, still had a way to go in this area. At least based on what we’ve been able to observe during games. Hopefully, by the start of the 2020 season, both guys are a lot better in this area.

17:32 he threw that like 60 yards (if no players are there and it lands around the 10) while taking a hit, barely stepping into it. Got there in a hurry too. If you teach him how to go through possessions and make quick reads, it’s over. All the physical tools are there and then some.

Is anyone else kinda worried that mccaffery leaving and having this guy who forces plays is staying? Strong arm doesn’t mean anything when you force every play.
What’d he go? Like 14/22 zero turnovers and a passing and running touchdown? You’re a moron. Take a seat.
@@twistedbeau3333 my comment was before the game. But even so he didn’t really complete any long balls. I think his longest pass was maybe 12 yards all game. Offense looked strong though. @@kaysnow5567 this state game gives me proof he doesn’t throw many balls past 5 yards. 9 guys in the box so we get a 3rd and long every play.
People really shit on Milton for his decisions like they aren’t done 30. He’s just trying to make a play lol. Both have glaring issues and I think Miltons is more easily fixable. Milton just had to set his feet and make a throw. He has all the arm strength you need. He can throw the ball 75 yards from his knees lol. DMC needs to work on going through progressions. He reads one or two receivers, if they’re not open he takes off. I think DMC will start, but I think it’s in Michigan’s best interest if Milton figures it out and starts.
Well said, totally agree, Miltons gotta plant, and Dmac needs to go through progressions, if it’s just not there, it’s not there. But big ten linebackers are fast, they close in on you quickly and they’re taught to stay back in certain formations to bait qbs into running, people get sick of that triple option shit start putting 190 lb middle linebackers out there that can crush you. Isaiah Simmons for example. Can play everywhere.
Yeah once Milton figures it out huh? Cade certainly has it figured out

Dylan L. I’m ok with it. I know he has a strong arm but let's hope he makes good decisions. Go Blue
They are replacing a guy Harbaugh thought was better than either of them. The same guy that ended his UM career with an interception, didn't get drafted nor even signed to a free agent contract. Look for the customary 3 losses and a blow drubbing as usual.
medusa little he might play baseball. I remember hearing that he signed with some team
vik rackam he was drafted by the Texans (MLB) and signed by the Chiefs
It's not necessarily that he thought he was better than them, it's because Hardhead Harbaugh is so old school, if it's even remotely close he will always go with the Senior over a freshman or sophomore. Which is one of his downsides.
He also thought okorn was better than peters at first, then okorn played so bad that he put peters in and was instantly a gigantic upgrade.
Commander Shepard 😂
Joe sent Mccaffery to the portal. Harbaugh finally trusting the process. Joe will make this program better. This is OC Gattis making his mark.
Milton may develop into a good college QB, but not this year. Other than QB sprint outs on broken plays, it's gonna be painful.
@@willie346 This didn’t age well.
Dylan was probably a better QB in the 7th grade than Milton could ever be.
Seems unfair that Herbstreit just gets to sit back, call our games and scout for OSU (as if they even need it). If I were Harbaugh I would urge the U to start a Sports Broadcasting program that cranks out the best sportscasters in the country, and just keep flooding the airwaves with Wolverine slappies 😂😂😂
Why cant we just get a good quarterback and a wide receiver with half decent speed.......
I know the qbs have had a ton of dirt on them but cmon we need a fast slot receiver for them to make those big throws to.
Alabama, oklahoma, osu, lsu, etc. all have great receivers to assist their qbs to assist them.
But ngl ive seen some fcs qbs better than the ones than we’ve had. Jim cmon man.
Giles Jackson has fantastic speed. I think we'll see him getting a ton of action in the slot this year. Mike Sainristil has very good speed, also. But I get what you're saying - Michigan has been missing that the last few years.
They all dip there head after .5 seconds in the pocket smh
It seems like Milton's got a better arm, and he's more athletic. He can sling the ball. I'm not sure how much of a look we can get based on what we have here. (It's a great video and I love it!) But it's not enough to really see him make his reads. He can throw hard at all three levels. At the beginning of this coming season, the offensive line might not be able to give him the time to be comfortable and develop. So, he'll rely on improvisation, but he's no "Denard." McCaffrey has more experience, and he seems to be a better general. He's making his reads, and he's methodical. But I'm not seeing any deep threat. (Maybe I missed it, if I did, just timestamp it). You can't compete without a 3 level threat. Making it worse, we don't know what to expect with the line this year. Michigan is known for playing it safe. I'm glad I don't have to decide based on this video. I went to the spring game back in 94. It was a blast! I guess it comes down to who shows up with the most at camp this year. Great video.
Great comment. Yeah, McCaffrey threw a pretty decent deep ball to Ambry Thomas at 5:31 and showed pretty good touch on a pass to Bell at 5:52 although that wasn't a true deep ball. With Milton, you can see that he has a huge arm, but we still haven't seen him throw a deep ball where he had to have any amount of touch or timing. But if you watch the high school highlights of both guys, both of them throw some pretty nice deep balls and Milton has a monster arm.
I agree, whoever plays better in fall camp is going to win the job!
McCaffery was so much better running RPO than Shea, smh.

When will Michigan fans learn that in order to win the B1G Ten and beat OSU you need an athletic mobile qb.You’re not beat OSU with a pocket passer or a qb that is slightly athletic they are just too talented defensively to sit there and be picked apart by a pocket passer. Joe Milton is you guys best shot he’s built like a tank has a strong arm and is very athletic and to me has a higher ceiling than Mccaffery but I guess that’s just my opinion
haha you crack me up! Purdue and Iowa smacked OSU with slow pocket passers. You need a SMART and CONSISTENT QB that will make all the right decisions, partnered with a defense like the one we had in 2016!
Your right.
Nathan Rasbaugh did I say Purdue or Iowa? No I said Michigan because it’s what Michigan needs to do. When was the last time Michigan beat OSU??? Oh I don’t know when Dennard Robinson was the qb who was everything I listed
@@TheYoungn231 Denard was the best QB Michigan has had in the last 30+ years and he's my favorite Michigan player of all-time, but let's be real, a lot of Harbaugh's teams could've beaten the 2011 version of Ohio State when Fickell was their coach and they went 7-6 with a true freshman QB.
I think you can beat OSU with a pocket passer or a more mobile guy, the most important thing is that the guy plays the position well.
With that said, I do think that in college football, having an athletic QB is a huge plus and I would love it if Michigan could recruit some QBs with Denard or Devin's running ability.
I think both are pretty comparable from a speed and athleticism standpoint. Milton has a stronger arm but is less accurate. McCaffrey seems to make better decisions but Milton has less experience so I’d expect that to improve over time. All in all I think McCaffrey gives us the best chance to win. I like his decisiveness. Neither are true pocket passes in my opinion, but I’d actually say Milton is closer to that than McCaffrey is.

He probably would've been really great if he hadn't suffered serious injuries two years in a row. That's tough to overcome. Gotta wish him the best at Texas and hope that Michigan has a great year with Collins, Bell, Johnson, Jackson, and Sainristil. That's a really talented group of receivers.
Milton is the guy. Unless his accuracy is worse than denard, he should start. He can simply make a bunch of throws mccaffrey can’t. Mccaffrey will rely on his legs a lot which only marginally helps the offense. You definitely need to be a threat to run, but Milton is a threat as well. They need a QB that will force the safeties to back up. Mccaffrey doesn’t do that. Milton will. Especially with some of the speed they have now. Roman wilson can burn. With the safeties back, open up more space for the loaded stable of backs.
His release is too slow and very ugly.
To me it's a no brainer you go with Milton
Milton makes a lot of bad decisions. Seems to not know when to throw the ball away and pretty reckless with it as well. Or maybe he has a hard time seeing defenders but He will just throw it into coverage.
yes
I saw 2 (should've been 5) really bad interceptions thrown by Milton. Anyone saying that they see enough from that to declare a starter right now has a biased opinion. DCaf had a slight edge in that film, but neither were impressive at all.

Mcaffery gonna get benched by week 5 and miltons gonna take off from there
Naw I be qb1 fo real bout ta get dis Heisman
Mccaffrey was better in 2018. Yikes
Michigan has a football team?
Michigan has killed me for 50 years. All those Bo years when he sucked in bowl games. Then I kept hoping Harbaugh would come to Michigan...and that was a huge disappointment...THEN they get the freakin brother of all world McCafferty...and I waited and waited and waited for that to turn into something...and then he leaves having not been anything.
I accepted all those Ann Arbor elitist jackass graduates and defended the football team all those years only to have to put up with this nonsense. I really was hoping they weren't gonna play this year
Joe Milton reminds me of Cam Newton mixed with Tom Brady.. mixed with Joe Montana. But better!
Lol you crazy
@@kylejohnson1399 I'm as crazy as Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahmer and Hitler. Only crazier! Weeee!
Is that you Fred Jackson?! Haha.
@@kevinanderson6094 yep it's me only faster and better! There's a new sheriff in town!
Reminds me of cam newton with a stronger arm
Fred Jackson, is that you? :)
JK, Milton does kind of remind me of Cam Newton in terms of being a big guy with good mobility and a great arm.
Obviously, I'm talking about Milton's physical gifts because he still has to develop as a QB.
Lol
Joe Milton should start because I wanna see Denard Robinson all over again
I don't think either guy is extremely similar to Denard, but I think McCaffrey has a little bit more top end speed than Milton.
But it's likely that neither of these guys will compare to Denard. Denard was the best QB Michigan has had since Harbaugh finished #2 in the Heisman voting in the 80s.
LOL, this is your answer for your OSU problem? LMAO. Good luck.
Mccaffery is nothing special, Milton clearly the more talented across the board.
At what? Surely you're not talking about playing QB
Dylan McCaffrey should be converted into a Wr/TE... He has good instincts running with the ball and break away speed when he gets into space...
Michigan has a ton of talent at WR, though, and I don't think he has enough experience as a blocker to have a good chance at transitioning to tight end. I think he'll be a great starting QB, but even if he's the backup, I think he's more valuable to the team as a backup QB than he would be as a third or fourth string WR or TE.
Both are trash! Go bucks
i cannot wait to thump the wolverines again,,,,go buckeyes
Just making sure Ohio State has another guaranteed victory.. and neither of these bumps stand a chance... O-H!
I-O
Only took 2 of you to figure it out. Getting better guys.
when did you play again?
