I did follow the break-in procedure from clutchmasters but after several other local RS owners had issues with these and the Xclutch I went back to stock without any issues
Marcus Manthei I’m betting the switch but if it ain’t broke I ain’t fixing it lol. Just drove my bros light clutch Miata around for 20 mins then hopped back in the RS and stalled the hell out of it in my driveway.
I’m very glad I came across this video. I just got the exact same set up and just got my car back . You are right, it is difficult to engage this clutch and the ticking sound. My left foot is treating this clutch like it’s OEM and i feel like I’m really hurting it. Any tips on driving this??? Im re-learning how to drive my car again haha and reverse parking it is so...UGHHH!! If you have any advice or tips please do tell. I am driving the car completely normal and granny shifting till it breaks in, no WOT.
Well I beat the hell out of this clutch and it only up lasting 10k miles before I welded the pressure plate to the clutch pads haha. I would recommend not slipping the clutch but rather letting it grab hard and get going faster. It’ll definitely take the foot time to adjust but I think it would have lasted much longer without the abuse I put it through.
@@gapperformance Just curious how much longer you think it would’ve lasted. I’ve been using it on my daily. Not launching it too much and driving normal because it’s winter and we have snow.... I maybe have 4K on the clutch so far but I have a full disk fx400 with the lightweight flywheel. Did you end up replacing it with another fx400
@@Blackoutclutch87 I went with the xclutch 6-puck kit with their flywheel and it was undriveable. Honestly if I could do it all again I would have just continued with stock clutches on the stock flywheel and changed my driving habits. I think the stock clutch is capable and if anything try different clutches that work with the stock flywheel. Going to a lightweight flywheel made driving the car really difficult
Ron Henry haha it’s super loud when it gets cold. People think my motor went again until I push in the clutch pedal. Would have gone with ACT but most were out of stock. Also didn’t want to drop $1800 on a clutch so I contact Fullblown and they worked me this clutch and flywheel for under $1000
Luis Padilla yes, it’s quite heavy until the last little bit of release, and then it’s all in. I thought I installed it wrong because I welded the clutch with only 10k miles - see my other (clutch weld) videos for the quick cut of that. I recommend stock or ACT as the only clutch options for the RS anymore.
If you could do it again what would you choose
Stock on stock turbo. ACT for big turbo. There are a lot more reviews these days and better installation recommendations.
reading the paper work for mine, it looks like there is a break-in procedure and that might attribute to the clutch chatter i followed...maybe lol

clutch pedal moves the gauges - could be the clutch position switch that ensures you push down on the clutch to start the car. Or gremlins.

@@gapperformance I can do that, thank you for reaching back!

How is the clutch noise?

does your clutch start engaging at the top of the pedal? my FX400 is off/on, on the last inch of the pedal

@@gapperformance Thank you. I was worried, I triple check everything. I just need to get used to the nothing, nothing and suddenly PUM all in
Luis Padilla it’s a touchy clutch. If you use launch control often expect it to wear out pretty quick
@@1stWorldProblemsSolved this isn’t the stock clutch it’s the fx400. Sidestepping wears out clutches insanely fast lol
