      @got2bjosh 4 месяца назад +5

      Not true. I watched the full match. Shelton was actually quite patient in rallies. He knew he had to be having bested Taro at Tokyo. Even the commentators remarked on Shelton's patience. At these early 250's so close to AO, higher ranked players are less willing to engage in protracted 3 set battles. That's why we've seen so many tank their matches by a wide margin or just straight up pull out early. No use in pushing it. He tried to win the SF with "best effort," but wasn't going to push it to a third set if it wasn't in the cards. Taro needed it more than Shelton.

    It seems like the higher ranked players don’t really want to play a 250 final right before the start of Australian open. It’s not that they didn’t give a fight, but they were certainly not playing their best. There should be a few days gap before the start of every slam, so that everyone takes the last 250 tourneys seriously. Also Korda’s easy loss to Lehecka is surprising. It was a good day for risky bets for sure.

      @got2bjosh 4 месяца назад +3

      It's a classic strategy. Straight sets losses or walkovers in the QF & SF rounds around the AO draw release. Higher ranked players leave the 250 scraps for lower ranked players who need the points & instead rest up & prepare for AO. No use in getting injured or overly fatigued so close.

    • @patrikmarflak6559
      @patrikmarflak6559 4 месяца назад +1

      @@VladRadu-tq1pg Sure, both have great potential but need to get it together to start winning regularly. Lehecka is already quite strong and maybe he prefers winning his first ATP Tour title to having a deep run in Melbourne. Which is not likely anyway, he already knows he will probably get Zverev in the third round if he wins the first two matches. And Zverev is too hard to beat in best of 5, so Lehecka doesn't have to worry too much about sparing energy.

Everyone plays a mix of exhibitions & lower tournaments to get matches in, but they're not going to overwork themselves to the point of premature fatigue or injury for a 250 title before the first Slam.

    why cannot we heard the "yeeeeeaaaaaaaah" with the tone of a 14 years old whoogirl at the end of the match? I am still waiting for it.

    Not a Shelton fan and can still admit he’s come a long way since US Open, I get sometimes he’s a little much but everyone hating on him STILL 1) let that match vs djokovic dictate their opinion 2) haven’t seen he’s backed up with results. Again, still not a fan (yet) but you can’t keep hating on the guy

    Maybe if Shelton didn't fistpump or shake his racket after virtually every single point he wins, he's have more energy and focus to actually win more matches...

    Shelton tiene las armas y el hambre de victoria para ser un jugador top. Pero, con ese juego de fondo de pista, no va a ningún lado. Tiene mucho que mejorar ahí.

    A shame to not see Shelton and Fils square off in the final, but that extra day of rest might actually help both of them in the AO. Great job by the actual finalists to engineer these upsets!
