- In this video, I visit my friends at Bob's watches in Newport Beach to chat with their CEO, Paul Altieri. In our chat, we discuss the Rolex bubble, how brands can embrace pre-owned sellers, and we look at some incredibly rare Rolex watches including a $250,000 Paul New Daytona found in a $25 thrift store couch.

Hey all, I hope you are having a great holiday season and that you enjoy the video. I always enjoy doing these styles of videos more so if you like please do give it a thumbs up as that helps me out. For those wanting to zone in on the Rolex bubble part of our conversation, we start discussing it at 15:44 - QUESTION FOR YOU ALL: What would you do with a Paul Newman Daytona if you found it in your couch? Would you keep it or sell it? If you sell it, what would you buy? See you in the next one, I have some big videos coming soon!
Teddy Baldassarre great video as always
Thanks Peter!
I would keep,it as an investment.
How much did the lady get for it ?
i would most definately hold onto it for a minimum of 5-10 years, wear it, enjoy it, let it keep going up in value, that or sell it as soon as my wife finds out how much its worth lol, after that i would get a couple of rolex's, sum tattoos, sum shoes, travel a little, put sum funds into the stock market, as well as in the bank, we already have a house, just my 2 cents, great video as usual teddy
@@paulrobertclayton5352 250 gs I think
Pawn star: Best I can do is 100 together with the couch
😂😂😂!! No shit, what a crook!
And remember, he's taking all the risk.
He's gotta get it framed too
"GMTs are up triple what they should be worth, they are a great buy..."
That's like saying you buy a stock once its skyrocketed in price.
"Do you take kidney?" 😆😆😆
Newsflash: Watch dealer does not see a bubble. May see a “correction“ in the market. Love the spin!
If I found a Paul Newman Daytona in my sofa, I’d never sell it.
Father in her 90s so she's probably 65ish and she wants some new titties. Don't tell me that doesn't make sense
She's a woman.
I would, cus id have to pay taxes on the watch
@@wolfdna788 Boob job at 60s is a must!
Wolf DNA Could be much younger. We’re talking her dad, not mom. Speaking from personal experience
I lost my Daytona whilst sitting on a couch about 30 years ago - honestly. I think that could be my watch!
@Jonathan Land
I hear you brah, same thing happened to mine.
It was an Invicta you lost , I believe 😆
Teddy, the production quality on this vid is top flight. Congratulations on the growth of your channel!
Great video Teddy. Paul is awesome. I love the long form conversation format, and the camera work is looking really good these days too
The shop owner seems like a cool and interesting guy.
Man, last time you were at Bob’s Watches, you overpowered the guest on the channel. This time you did great! Awesome to see you improving and succeeding Teddy, happy 2020 bro
Amazing video Teddy! Great shots and awesome stories! Really enjoying this video at 1u30 in the morning haha. Best wishes and hopefully an amazing new year with a lot of great stories and adventures.
Thank you my friend! Thanks for watching! Now get some sleep haha
Teddy - great video - Paul’s depth of knowledge pertaining to the watch industry is probably without equal. Furthermore his passion for our mutual passion for watches really shines through. That’s the basis of his obvious success. Thank you.
Thanks for the great content Teddy! Had a bad experience with a certain online dealer but still enjoyed the video.
Fantastic video. Thank you Teddy...Happy New Year :)
"Its a square crown guard because if you look at the crown its protected by crown guards but the crown guards are squared off. " thats genius
I once found a cookie and boy that was ok with me
Could think of much worse to pull out of a couch cushion.
I really like your videos where you go visit people and especially when you visit a factory and then put your spin on the story.
Thanks, Karl! I enjoy videos like these the most anyways. Have some of the sort coming!
An item going up 40% in value in months is practically the definition of a bubble.
No it's not. By definition you don't know that it's a bubble until the price crashes.
This is as simple as Supply vs.Demand
I think people are also discounting inflation too. These collectible items are just matching dollar value this is why we buy
@@bjornfollin5056 Guess what? The price crashed.
Superb Teddy!! Really enjoyed listing to Paul's stories behind the watches. Great content Teddy! And I wouldn't hesitate purchasing a Rolex from Bob's if I was looking to add to my small Rolex collection of Explorer and Date Just 1601.
Thanks for watching Jim!
Teddy, you should start your own Talking Watches series! This reminded me of that format and I think it would be awesome!
I definitely like these interview style videos. I plan on doing many more of them! Thanks for watching!
Teddy Baldassarre That would be awesome! Thanks for making great content!
Excellent video ! Thanks for all the efforts you put in your vids! Cheers
Happy it gets noticed! I don’t think many understand the weeks of work it takes to make something like this. All the best for 2020 my friend!
Yeah the watch is cool and everything, but what happened to the couch?!
Great review Teddy! Bob is awesome and when I bought my Datejust II the service was amazing.
I'm new to your channel. I'm newish to the watch collection thing. I'm definitely entry level. I've watched several watch channels lately, liking yours the best. thanks .
The videos with this guy are great! Well done Teddy!
A “Genta-easing” would have been a great reply! Great video and happy new year!
Amazing video Teddy! Great job!!
Thank you Ricardo!
Teddy, you ask great questions. Great work!
Cheers Teddy, great vid, the couch Daytona, that’s a really cool story 👌👌
RESPECT et PERFECT selection Watches , Good Job Man !!!
Well time to start tearing the furniture apart
I just did. Found a wrapped cereal bar from 2004. #winning
Perfect interview Teddy. Thumbs up.
The story of this Paul Newman Daytona is so incredible and fascinating! A good investment for that lady...
She made the most of the funds too 😂
I just want to know how it got there... So fishy😁🤷
The sad part is somebody somewhere lost the family Rolex. Kind of like those shows about buying storage lockers. It can be a great day for the person that bid low on a unit, but some family lost their treasured collection of what ever because of forgetting to pay a couple of month's rent.
@@wincrasher2007 not at her age😬
@@murda2999 that's what I was thinking the entire time... Who's the original owner of that rolex?? Fishy.
This had been a much interesting discussion rather visiting the Colleccion guy. Happy New Year Teddy.
Great Vid! Bet you were tempted to title it ‘talking watches with Paul Altieri’ 😂
Great video! Watchfinder is owned by Richemont, so I'd say that's a pretty significant company making a move in the preowned market. Cheers
Awesome show,happy New Year
Hey Teddy, love the videos. Are you going to do any more ‘watches of’ videos? I would love to see a watches of famous writers.
Great job Teddy! U are fantastic at what you do
Thank you Anthony! I appreciate you!
Amazing story and incredible watch...I think I would stare at it every day for at least an hour...
Awesome video. Glad I picked up a 16570 polar last year.
Man, if I buy a cheap couch chances are I find a mouse trap in the cushions! Latched onto my fingers! XD Great video Teddy, and what a story! Have a great 2020!
Awesome episode Teddy👍
Videos like these are my fav man
I ran over to my leather sofa and checked. I found a dime so I'm well on my way.
8:42 Teddy’s eyebrow raise 🤣
Fantastic Video, I don't usually comment but this is tremendous!
Thanks for the comment and watching!
I bought a second hand couch once, and when I rummaged around the back I found a surf board.
Obviously the previous owner was a couch-surfer.
Fun video, subscribed!
Yo, the throwback Teddy intro music 😎👌🏾
Was wondering who would notice
Hey teddy what's your opinion on Tissot? I'm thinking about getting a Bridgeport 14kt gold chronograph.
I was just in Newport Beach and wanted to stop by Bob's Watches, but they were closed. Next time! Perhaps there is a bubble (if your definition is simply quick price appreciation) but a lot of people see that definition as including a component of fragility...but I don't see it bursting. The usual movements up or down, sure. Rolex is increasing their retail prices on January 1st (tomorrow), so that takes away some of the bubble from a margin perspective regardless...and should help buffer up the grey market prices a bit. As with everything, we shall see!
Great video! And yes, I’ve bought a Rolex watch from Bob’s Watches.
I have sold several watches to bobs watches and bought 1 as well. Very smooth. Their office is pretty nice as well.
10:33 The Sub dial is not perfect, it has hand drag rings. Also the lume seems to be over those circular scratch rings - touched up?
nope, there is no bubble. there was even a price increase 7-10 procent from 1 January 2020. prices are going up!
Just subscribed, cool channel. Whats the name of the song (theme) at the beginning of the video? Thanks!
just checked my couch to make sure there's no PN Daytona hidden somewhere, but then realised that I bought it yesterday at IKEA. then I called my uncle who I thought was a tomato farmer to ask if he happens to have a PN Daytona he'd like to hand down to me, turns out he's actually a potato farmer. I guess it's not my kind of day. end of story!
Love the sub. From the days when Rolex just made very good quality tool watches. You find a lot of them owned by old servicemen in the UK
A highly enjoyable video, paul is a very interesting man, great stuff.
Awesome guy too! Thanks for watching Stephen!
What a couch! Great story, wow. Thanx. P.S.
Hi Teddy, I want buy a quality steel bracelet chronograph and a black leather strap regulator watch. My budget for both watches is $10,000. What could you recommend? Thanks!
“A lot are unique, some are even one of a kind.” !
I had to laugh when he said that.
Great video! Your interview was phenomenal and felt super natural. My only really nit-picky critique would be that the video would look just a tad better if you used the same camera (could just be different exposure settings, but it's hard to tell) in the wide shot and head shots of you and Paul. Also I think it's a little too much of an extreme close-up shot in the headshots, but that's just my opinion.
This is "only" worth 5k. 😭
Had me feeling poor too 😂
@@TeddyBaldassarre Do you know the reference for that Oyster Perpetual? Would be grateful, thank you
@@DVHEllis I see where you're going to, with the ref you can find the original owner., it would be fair to return back to him, I wouldn't wear someone else watch especially expensive one. Found object should be traced and returned.
Great video!
Bob‘s watches: We got a lot of Subs
Teddy: I got a lot of subs with Subs
Did that Paul Newman Daytona come with Box and Papers?
Awesome Teddy👍👍 more please 😁
Thanks my friend! You keep going too!
@@TeddyBaldassarre 1000% 🔥 ☺️
Teddy... "Only time will tell." lol
Which one reference has the watch after 5512? (gold submariner)
How much would you pay for a Daytona Sillver tone with black dial?
Whats the best buy out of airking, oyster perpetual or datejust?
A sub.
Ok but what about the not so obvious lines, whats a great piece that is under the radar?
A GMT.
Really great under the radar pics! 😂
Great video! Next have Paul go over Omega!
Interesting conversation. Ref the Daytona, Bob’s Watches has specialized in preowned Rolex and other luxury watches since the mid-90s. This women’s call wasn’t their first of like or similar circumstances. While they’re objective is to make a profit, it’s safe to assume they exercise due diligence to avoid being complicit in the sale of a suspect watch, regardless of value.
Nice video mate
Thanks Tim!
This was great
Wow. What a pro channel. The content. The photography/lighting and sound! This is not a “modest RUclipsr” channel.... side note: I have bought and sold watches with Bob’s. Good people. Easy transaction to buy and especially sell. I sold a 1995 X-Serial Submariner to Bob’s and the transaction was seamless and easy!!
Watches that will go up: the 16800 yes, but also the GMT 16700, and the Oysterquartz 17000 - thank me in a few years 😜
Nobody sees a correction coming. It’s absolute euphoria at the end. Crown guards? Hopefully everybody’s buying out of love for the watches.
If I found a Paul Newman, you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead wrist.
Teddy, where is your shirt from? Odd question for this video but it caught my eye
Taylor stitch!
If the original couch Daytona owner sees this and still has the paperwork serial numbers etc ,cant they claim it back ?
I didn’t remember we had tomato crops near Mexico City. The state most famous for crops like tomato is the state of Sinaloa, not like the name is famous or anything haha.
As a Mexican web developer with an Orient Mako 2, I think I need to switch career paths.
You should dislike the negative connotations and insinuating they made since he's a Mexican farmer therefore growing something else. A bit racist in my opinion.
The mako 2 is an awesome watch
AK1920 thanks, I was looking to get a Mako 3/Kamasu but they where too expensive for my liking and I found a Christmas sale on Amazon for the Mako 2 and it was about 140 USD taxes and everything. I’m very pleased with the watch I got for the money paid.
@@zeroelus that's a really good deal..screw down crown, 120 click bezel, screw case back, etc. I also own a black dial mako 2 I prefer it over the 3. It is the 2nd orient watch I have, I also have an orient symphony. You really cant beat them for the price. Take care
Jay G totally agree with you there. I live in southern Spain, my dad used to sell tomatoe and other seeds to local farmers with huge glasshouse cultures, these guys were filthy rich. Mexico is a huge tomatoe producer and exports tons of tons of tomatoes to the US, people with huge properties are easily multi millionnaires, and have a honnest business (they might be guilty of not declaring all their workers or income to the local IRS and have to sell a dozen rolex when they get caught though)
Hey Teddy, could you may a comprehensive video on the Submariner references? Perhaps including Tudor's versions as well. A lot were mentioned here, and the audience is expected to know the context
Yes! That could be fun! Love those old Tudor subs. Thanks for watching my friend.
Theres a pretty good Hodinkee video and article covering all thing Rolex sub. A Tudor reference point would be amazing.
Huh? Somebody out there has the original box and papers and I would not have put it past them that they have reported it missing.
I’d keep it! Enjoy it, and have fun telling the story...😎👍
I called Bob's with a rare Rolex GMT Master and they would not even look at it unless I paid them $300 (+or-) for an appraisal! (Refundable if I sell them the watch at whatever the hell their offer might be.) I told them I had a pretty good idea of what the value was (I had offers from several other major players) and since I'm OC local, I'll drop by and show them the watch in person...no appraisal needed and if they want to make an offer, I'll be glad to entertain. "We'd love to see it", they said, but I still had to pay them the $300. Crazy.
What did they offer you? They offered me DIK for a two tone Datejust.
@@tomt5698 They wouldn't make an offer until I agreed to pay them for an appraisal...and I would not agree to pay them anything. I had offers from Hodinkee, a commitment for a Geveva auction spot from Phillips, and two other solid offers for the watch. All between 20 and 30K.
Very well done! But, is there ONLY Rolex or what?
Don't think the quare crown guards were the problem on why it was so hard to set the date ;)
Nice Rolex Paul Newman and nice Rolex Submariner gold, It is amazing that a Rolex Paul Newman cost $250,000.
I would start by servicing it without touching the patina, then i would use it for about a month and take as many selfies possible and then will sell it and purchase all the watches on my list.
Haha I would sell too, Larry. Thanks for watching!
Teddy Baldassarre you really looked like you wanted that panda lol it showed on your face buddy !
Can we hear an opinion on Armitron watches?
That is incredible
I like the lighting
That 6264 is the one
The guy who sold the couch disliked the video
The most beautiful watch ever made
I would use it for 6 months, take great photos of it, sell it and get every other watches available! xD
Sell that Rolex and buy the full Sinn and Fortis line of watches.
