- Today on Buckle Up, Rob tests the new KGM Torres. Ssangyong is dead, long live KGM? Well let’s find out if this entirely new model can cut it in the highly competitive segment.
Up against the likes of the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, MG HS, BMW X3, Audi Q3, Skoda Kodiaq, Seat Ateca, Nissan Qashqai, Mercedes Benz GLC, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, VW Tiguan, Volvo XC60, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Renault Kadjar and the Lexus UX, why is it the Qashqai fares so well? In the competitive mid-sized crossover segment it's a race to the top in terms of tech, price and economy - so how does it do?

Buckle Up is a channel that is only interested in one thing - cars!
We upload a myriad of different content including car review videos, car challenge videos, car news videos and much, much more!
Our videos are made in a similar style to that of Top Gear, Fifth Gear, Car Throttle, Doug DeMuro, carwow, Carfection, The Grand Tour, MotorTrend and many more.
We would all thoroughly recommend their channels, so why not go and check them out.
I would really like this car, if it were a diesel with a four wheel drive system (I just want a cheaper Rexton)
4WD is on the way… diesel however, is not.
Australia would appreciate a diesel awd. Makes a lot of sense
We’ve a Skoda Kodiaq - FWD with the DSG - never got more than 30mpg. We’ve all a new Rexton - massive car - we get around 40mpg from that with predominantly motorway driving. Admittedly the MPg for this Torres doesn’t look great but in reality it’s not far off what you get in other similar specified and sized SUV competitors. Despite all the hate this car gets - it stands out - it isn’t a jelly mould car and I personally think it looks good. I’ve also found KGM as they’re now
Known put their cars together well - they are not in my way budget.
Having driven pretty much all its competitors, I can’t say I’ve ever seen 30mpg in any of them. It definitely looks good, though.
I admire your ability to find positive things to say about this monstrosity 😂
It has plenty of good points, but there’s no denying it has its fair share of issues too
@@BuckleUpShow don’t quite know what benefits would outweigh the deficits beholden to this thing. It’ll fail miserably
Really enjoyed this video, especially the bit where you were struggling to be diplomatic about the gearbox!
Also, what's the handsfree system like? I call a lot of people whilst driving so it's an important consideration for me
Do you remember 2009, the handsfree is straight out of a car from then
@@BuckleUpShow So it's one of the handsfree systems of all time?
It certainly is
Hernandez Eric Gonzalez Linda Lewis Frank
Hegllf?
including the tall of the reviewer info is useful for the audiences to visualize the interior space. Moreover, you speak clearly and slowly , this is good for audiences who are not native english speaker to follow along. Thanks
Glad we could be of assistance
A hybrids coming in 2025 but the interior looks seriously cheap and plasticky for £35k is unacceptable
Hybrid is probably needed if you want any sort of decent MPG
Fyi. Those cables dont keep the light bar fixed down 😂 they let branches/brush slide on them so they dont hit the windscreen
They are tie down points for securing roof items. This can be for a range of things like a kayak, as demonstrated in Ford’s Bronco video below.

Our advice was not to use the ones on the Torres, as they are just for show and are not functional.
I kind of like it, but it’s Tiguan and XC40 money, and the VW and Volvo are just better in every way. And all that brown trim is horrible.
It’s certainly marmite judging by the comments
Nice chunky SUV styling! How comes Rob doesn’t wear the buckle up merchandise?
He has no taste
7:38 who wiped that gloss trim?
The detailers who work for KGM
@@BuckleUpShowwell that’s a shame :)
They must not have wiped the product off before it dried 😞
Before the Torres came to the UK, it was already available in a few CEE countries, including Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia.
Did it sell well in any of those countries?
@@BuckleUpShow KGM isn’t so popular in Europe.
Does it have a surround view camera? For the price it should have one
Yes, it has a 360 camera view
It needs a Diesel engine , 28mpg is shocking , shame because its certainly a nice looking car .
There’s no plans yet, but let’s see
Not bad option but not wow.. if you are BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Toyota landC, lover then this have no chance. But if you are a Kia, Hyundai, Renault lover then this is a good option to go with! Just take no low profile 🛞 because you will destroy everything related to 4x4
It would be much more wow with four wheel drive, low range and a locking diff or two
Thank god they did away with the silly Ssangyong name
But it meant double dragon
Woah… you lost me at 28mpg (which I appreciate is much later then some would have lost interest in this car 😅). That is nothing less than shocking! Surely no one will buy it.
Not unusual for a big, body on frame SUV. The thing that is unusual is you're not getting the benefit of 4wd for all that consumption
@@BuckleUpShowI would hardly call this thing big. Rob is taller than it.
Rob is tall, though. It’s quite a large car.
Boring
Thank you for your valued feedback
Yes it is
Why do you think that?
@@BuckleUpShow Because I have test driven and purchased it.
How’s it going so far?
@@BuckleUpShow We like it, we also have other cars. It gives you a safe feeling when you are in it.
KGM/ Ssangyong always have the ugliest design back side. personal opinion. musso. ugly. rexton ugly. all the ass is ugly. but the front. looks nice.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Towing only 500kg. Otherwise cool!
It’s certainly cool looking
@@BuckleUpShow could you ask, are they planning to add gearbox that can handle 750kg?
No they’re not, the Rexton might be more up your alley if you need towing power.
@@BuckleUpShow in some countries they sell the same car with 750 towing power, but in Europe unfortunately not...
