another great video. I actually bought a Ssangyong/KGM Korando eMotion partly based on your video. That also is a great car even though it doesn't have decent range and charging speed. But like everything else on a car, that's subject to one's needs. I hardly ever do larger distances, I always charge it at home on a 'normal' power socket (and I have a surplus of electricity with my solar panels), so although they're bad selling points for people who claim to drive hundreds of kilometers on a daily basis (which not too many do in the real world if they're honest), it fills my needs perfectly. I know people that say they'll never buy an EV as the range sucks, while they drive less than 20km on a daily basis and put their car in the garage every day. And if you point that out, they just argue "you can't go on holidays with it", while they NEVER do that with their ICE car either. What's more, if by chance you do need to drive further, isn't it a PLUS to take a few more breaks if you're not used to driving long distances? Maybe not timewise, but I for instance rather get my children to the destination SAFELY instead of quickly. Another plus (personally) is the more traditional interior with actual BUTTONS to push... LOVE it!!
One might want to consider ssangyong changed owners 5 times in the last 2 decades, 1998, 2006, 2009, 2015, 2022, and twice went into receivership in 2009 and 2020.
No wireless carplay at this point is just insane. I've had carplay in my cars since 2017. 7 years later, looking for another car, and its 1 of the must have features. Getting away with a wired to wireless adapter at the moment, and it has a few bugs or delays connecting. But its great just hopping in my car for a 10min drive and still having all the tech available. This car just went straight from being unknown to being a consideration to not at all within 5mins of watching this.
12:44 the Lada and Allegro man’s choice 😂 these are going to be great value on the second hand market in a couple of years, because of the divisive looks, and I’m all for that
THIS! Exactly this! The model was so ugly but this is divisive as you said but I LOVE the design. Originally from the UK so I can’t wait to pick one up from AutoTrader in 2-3 years time for £15,000 😂😂😂
Palmerston North has a 100% electric urban bus fleet. First city in Aotearoa. This makes Palmerston North hands down the best city in the country. I'm sure you'll agree.
Gavin when will you cover Forest Lodge Orchard the electric cherrys farm? Mike Casey of Rewiring Wiring Aotearoa says in a blind test 50% of people can identify the electric cherrys from fossil cherrys.
There's a lot to like about this car...I don't mind the styling, although the bulk on the boot lid is a bit weird. I like all the optional extras you can get, and good to see vehicle to load (should be standard on all EVs). Another thing that should be standard is wireless Apple/Android...it's absence on this car would be a deal breaker for me
another great review The blade batteries make this vehicle very appealing and it's size We are trying to use our BYD ATTO3 as a camper car it's rather tight even with an external storage box This would have been much better in that role and perhaps for carrying our tandem recumbent tricycle Could you Please give us the internal height Length width in the rear Cheers
No mention of remote connectivity? Can you install an app on your phone to control it in any way? Also is it compatible with V3 Tesla Superchargers? I know the Atto 3 and Seal are not which is disappointing.
Just drove one today in a KGM dealership: there is no remote connectivity. In fact, there is no real-time connectivity at all. Software updates happen during maintenance in the garage. Love it or not. It's more like a traditional car but at least it cannot be hacked remotely while you're driving on the highway. All depends on your priorities
Had not heard of KGM, it almost sounds like a crossover of K-Mart and GM. Great informative review, BTW. My only question: if it can was answered. (12:00)
Forgot to mention zero connectivity no apps means no information about car location status of the battery, no preheating or cooling. My fiat 500e has everything 😅
Most EV brands are completely dead now in NZ! Even the cheapest EV, the Ora Good Cat, has not sold a single EV since January 2024! BYD Dolphin 21 since January, this monstrosity will sell like the Ora!
What about servicing? I’d always choose a Tesla over any other brand as servicing is just a nasty hangover from our oil burning past. You don’t ‘service’ any other machines with a battery/motor and we have road worthy certification to ensure cars are safe for the road, so it is not needed & I would resent paying for it.
@@eldridgep2 and if you did drive your drill to work you would get a speeding ticket, as our speed limit is 100 or 110 KM/H on motorways and main roads. A lot of European tourists get caught out with our lower speed limits, especially Germans.
@@eldridgep2 😂 I would like to see someone ride a drill to work, you might need a few batteries to snap on throughout the journey. Seriously though, what is to service? The loud, stinky, hot, oily bit is gone. Front brake pads are lasting 720k; suspension and bushes? Cabin filters & wiper blades are all possible with a can-do attitude and a RUclips video.
@@ChromeFlakesI honestly don't know mate I just like the reassurance that someone who knows what they are doing has checked it. Wiring degrading, contacts corroding, software updates, known manufacturing issues that don't require a full recall etc. I work in IT I see electrical and electronic things fail from time to time. I'm just saying I'm glad it doesn't happen whilst I'm in it and moving at speed. If while I'm there they hoover it, change the windscreen wash and top up the air con all the better 😉 In the UK a MOT (roadworthiness) and the things covered in a service are different I agree it should be simpler and quicker as not so many moving parts etc. but I'm sure EV's are probably better checked over once in a while and different makes/models will have different faults a MOT wouldn't cover. Services aren't a legal requirement though so each to their own.
Yet another EV that will not sell in our current EV unfriendly government! Even popular EV like Tesla and BYD sales have fallen off a cliff! I'm not sure how BYD dealers can survive selling less than 100 EV per month between all the dealers in NZ!
While I don't mind the look of this EV one so much (it could be worse), you're absolutely right, Ssang Yong's (or whatever they were called) ICE vehicles were really, really unpleasant to look at 😀
Why not compare battery sizes 57kwh vs 73kwh, and while the Model 3 is far more efficient, it's the battery capacity that is the main cost to an EV. Oh, and I just found out the cost of this EV killer, which is the new Kia EV5 with its massive 88kwh battery starting at $68k!
@@bluestraycat I think he means the anxiety of leaving home every morning will a full charge. The stress of the rapidly growing number of places to get more charge while eating, shopping or even at some diesiesel stations. The typically 7 or more year warranty, the minimal servicing requirements and relaxing quiet ride. It must be awful!
Dont live in NZ, no plans to go to NZ yet always watch your car reviews. They are fun and unbiased, keep up the good work 👍
Seems you can buy this shoebox in the UK, probably main Europe as well.
this channel is criminally undersized only 25k subs? an order of magnitude too low at least

Wow, that looks impressive all things considered. Was looking at an id4 but this looks good, esp the 10 year/1,000,000km battery warranty.

Good review. The 'bump' on the tailgate is probably a nod to the Korando which had the spare wheel mounted on the rear door with a plastic cover.
Damn that much and you don't even get a pigeon!
smart company would sell you a homing pigeon.
love the video, love your terminologies mate - "seated heats," "computerologist" . 👍👍

The styling looks like someone tried to draw a Kia EV5 from memory. 😀
inner motor battery built by BYD
And yet the EV5 may actually manage to sell a few EVs when released in a few months, unlike this unknown model!
Oh wooooow all the camping stuff is so cool!
I hope KGM will bring these improvements to the Internal Combustion Engine version of the Torres!
Fantastic, funny and informative review. Seems like the KGM is a contender...

For those interested, the new Kia EV5 pricing is from $68k for the light up to $85,450k for the GT Line. All models 88kwh battery.
Well written and presented. Like the local humour.
Great review and EVen greater t-shirt! :)
Model y is about 15 kWh/ 100 not 18 or so.
V2l is what I miss in tesla.

When the car is loaded with a family of 4 with luggage the wheel spin should reduce and power will come in very handy to pass on a busy road
PERFECT CAR
Battery pack is dangerously close the surface which is because this is not pure electric platform
thats why you need separate aircon controls
Not sold on the design, range or 0-60,should be cheaper than that like 40%cheaper,the only redeeming part of the car is the BYD batteries
I will buy one, if only comes with BYD 2nd blade generation battery . 450km not enough for me.
Forgot to mention zero connectivity no apps means no information about car location status of the battery, no preheating or cooling. My fiat 500e has everything 😅

I don't know why but the start muddled my feeble monkey brain. Ended up being like wtf why is Countdown making a car? Nope..
I think I just haven't heard the word SsangYong in so long it had ceased to have any meaning.
Too expensive for a FWD
Looks like they raided the Kia/Hyundai parts bin.
Good review however outdated. It does have the smart opening of the trunk now after a software update. Review the car again 😂😊

Yeah, at least not ugly like that Atto 3 interior that is just hideous! And it is already aging very badly!

what anxiety exactly?
